JINGJING ZHAO

I am from China, so my name is hard to pronounce by some people. My given name is Jingjing, which my father gave it to me. However, some foreigners always call it Tintin or something else. It was from a poem, which describes a girl ’s mood when she met a boy. They met in a lush meadow, and the girl blushed when she first met the boy. The poem shows her psychological activities and mood. It was a romantic story. The Chinese character of my name is 菁菁. The single jing means a kind of waterweed or blooming flower, but when it becomes two, the meaning of the word is changed. The double jing means essence and the prosperous situation. I think my father may want me have pure heart and don’t forget the essence of be a person.  My last name is Zhao, which I think is harder to pronounce for some foreigners and that was inherited by my father. For us,Chinese, our last name not only can be inherited by father, but also can be inherited by mother. I have some friends whose last name was inherited by their mother. And the other thing is, in China, after a woman married, she don’t need to change her family name to his husband’s family name, which is utterly different with American.

Most of chinese don’t have middle name, and almost all of their name have two characters to four characters. But some people who are rare ethnic group have long characters name, such as people who live in xinjiang or tibet, speak different languages, therefore, their name is totally different with han nationality. 

I am proud of my name, cause it has a romantic story which can be recognized by others’ names.

Obviously, it is a box of gum, and more obviously, it was used for chewing. It has two weeks of history—if it has. Originally, it has was among of 15 sticks, but I ate 13 of them, so there only 2 now. Last week, I bought it from publix, the market which is not far way from our campus. I walked about 15 minutes to there and bought the gum and some sushi.  As you know, after eating sushi with wasabi, there was some weird breath, that made me uncomfortable. So I chewed one of them and gave my friends two. The next day, after the lunch, both my friend and me felt that the sauce of beef at lunch was too salty, therefore, we chewed two of them.

Then, the next few days, I maintained  consuming two sticks per day. After four days, the fate of the gum was changed. That day, after dinner,  I ate a stick of gum and gave one to my friend. But I did’t wear clothes with pocket, soI put the gum into my friend’s bag—big and full of books and notes. (It’s really important for the gum’s fate) Because of that, I couldn’t find it anymore. But, soon, I forgot it, cause I bought another one. However, yesterday, in order to find his canecard, my friend pour all things out from his bag. Finally, the gum was liberated from bag and  breathed fresh air! 

There’re lots of advantages of chewing gum. It can protects your teeth, improves eating habits, improves concentration and memory, and combats stress and anxiety. So, it’s valuable.

 What is the definition of cool? Do something that others would not to do? or just do something that everyone think it’s cool? In my opinion, something could be the coolest even if they were the most common in the past. Writing brush, one of the most common thing in the past of China. Because there is no ball-point pen, people had to use hair on the ponytails to make brushes, and dipped in ink to write. But after ballpoint pens were invented, writing becomes much easier than before. People don’t need to dipped in ink to write, and the effectiveness of recording was improved. However, for me, writing brush, as an ancient writing tool, is still cool, even if there are a lot of people think it’s outdated. The reason that i think it’s still cool is, nowadays, people who can use writing brush to write pretty handwriting are rare, so this kind of people are cool, even if they use the uncool things. Because when you write with a brush, it is difficult to control the power. Why people don’t use writing brush anymore? Is it because inconvenient? I think it just a part of reasons. So that it could not be the reason to explain people don’t use it. I would like to think the uncool thing is cool. Because for me, the cool means to do something that others don’t do.

  It’s my first skateboard in my life! And I think It’s the coolest thing for me. However, the picture is not my “banban”—so i called my skateboard, cause it’s hard to bring it from my home. The picture was from Amazon. When I was in high school, I met a group of interesting people. all of them have same hobby——hip-hop, they always have funny ideas. Each of them has their own personalities and one of them, who is four years older than me, is the most special. We have a lot of commons. We love same singer and same director. And one of difference of us ---except gender, is he love skateboard but I was totally unfamiliar with it. Initially, I just watched them ( he and his friends) practicing, and then, I gradually had interest in skateboard and wanted to join with them. The first reason is interest, the second reason is him. Therefore, I bought my first skateboard in my life, in order to practice with him.   When I first stood on the board, I really worry about falling off, because it’s really hard to control its direction and speed. When I was practicing, I often jumping off from the board with scaring, then “banban” would go straight and hit the barriers to stop. In fact, when practicing the skateboard, I always feel embarrassed. Because I am tyro, I could not go long distance after stand on it. Therefore, I took the skateboard to a place where no one in and secretly practice every time. But now, I improved a lot, and the most important thing is I am more confident and  willing to practice with others who are really good at playing skateboard.
