they both know they're out of their depth that night — everything they've experienced so far at the hotel has just prompted more questions without providing any answers. they're walking with eyes wide open into what could be another one of undertaker's traps, and his little contractor is determined but clearly tired in a way that hurts Sebastian to see.

as Sebastian tucks the keys to their suite into his waistcoat pocket, readying them to leave for dinner, he looks back and sees his little lord watching him with a shockingly open expression across his features: concern. care. trust.

and when his master beckons him over, and touches his demon's face so gently, tiny fingers soft in his over-long hair, something in sebastian's chest — something that should not exist to begin with — aches and blooms, an entirely different sort of hunger than any other he's experienced in his long years.
