One time I was in my home country and trying to get food from a local restaurant with a friend. This was close to many tourist traps, but not close enough to be bombarded by them. Sometimes they come and they go, but most importantly, it’s the locals who are the main demographic.

The whitest tourist I have ever seen in my entire life—so white they could blend in with the snow—enters the restaurant, comes up to me, and says “konnichiwa!”

I was trying to do a phone call for adult reasons (I honestly can't remember if it was bills or the internet provider or what) and the lady on the other end was talking to me perfectly normally, right? I'm getting stuff done, it's very productive, etc.

Then. She asks for my name. I tell her my name. Suddenly she's speaking very slowly and loudly for the rest of the phone call and acting like I can't understand her, double-checking at every turn to make sure I fully comprehended what she was asking/telling me. She also put on a slight Indian accent just to make absolutely sure I can understand.
