In the USA, it’s 100x cheaper to take an Uber to the hospital instead of an ambulance.
I don’t know if this is true or.. Like, having to pay for an ambulance that is taking you to the hospital? That doesn’t make any sense. What kind of distopian world is that?
It costs thousands of dollars to ride in an ambulance
In America some people with chronic health conditions like epilepsy literally have to wear medical IDs that say “don’t call an ambulance/911”. Some well-meaning person calling an ambulance for you will turn into a thousand (or couple thousand) dollars that YOU are on the hook for, even though you didn’t make the call. So, PSA: if you see someone having a seizure, look for a medical ID! You should only call an ambulance if: the person is elderly, pregnant, or the seizure lasts more than 4 minutes. Otherwise, wait for the seizure to pass, then ask the person if they want an ambulance when they regain consciousness.
Oh my god what. Here in Quebec, if you call an ambulance for something they deem non-emergency, you get a bill later for like $180. But if it’s anything like a loss of consciousness, chest pains, labour, whatever, or if you’re in a public place and a a well-meaning samaritan calls 911, it’s paid for by the government. Seriously, everything about healthcare in the US makes me want to cry.
Imagine a world where you have to wear tags to tell people trying to help you that “It’s ok, don’t try to help, I can’t afford to pay if someone tries to save my life. I’ll just take my chances and hope it’s not life-threatening.”
America, land of the free………..
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Spoilers
You know what makes me so sad about the part where they actually show Tony’s parent’s death?
1) the fact that Tony watched a video of his parents death in full detail (seriously, i flinched and looked away through most of it)
But what really got me was when Howard Stark finally gets a good look at the man that’s going to murder him and his wife. When he says ‘Sgt. Barnes’, I was wondering how much he wanted to say ‘Bucky’ instead. Because when you consider how long he had worked with Steve, a good amount of that was time that he worked with and got to know Bucky Barnes. And when Steve told them that Bucky had died, Howard was probably sad and mourning his death as well. But think about the Stark’s death scene. When an old Howard Stark, one that’s long given up looking for Steve Rogers, looks up to see the face of Steve’s best friend who died from a fall so many years ago, can you imagine the hope he has? How his mind is probably going through so many thoughts other than ‘this is it, this is when I die’. How he’s probably planning to get together a team for when he, Maria, and Tony get back from vacation, probably during vacation, and start a search back up again for the missing super soldier. How he’s going to tell Peggy, because she more than anyone will get the hope he now has from this one face from the past because if Bucky’s there and alive, then there’s hope that Steve can be found as well, right?
And then when he realizes that while it’s Bucky, it’s also not Bucky, and that’s heartbreaking, but he’s probably also running through ideas of how to save him, because he wants so much to because that’s part of the best years of his life, working with Steve and Bucky and the Howling Commandos, and Peggy (though I refuse to think that he doesn’t count the years since Tony was born as some of the best in his life as well, especially when he realized his son was as intelligent as he was). And in that moment, he’s probably filled with so much hope that maybe he won’t die if he can just get to Bucky, but he doesn’t get a chance to, and Peggy never found out that there was hope until the day that Steve Rogers walked into her room looking almost exactly like he did the last time she saw him.
