Koji Takeda Junnosuke was born in the heart spire of Calyoiana, Japan, one of the most affluent and historically significant districts in the megacity, to Onaga Kwaehyung Junnosuke and Sayuri Lanamia Junnosuke (née Egusa). As the youngest of nine children, Koji grew up in a household that was as lively as it was intellectually driven. His siblings are Riku Sanaa Mei Junnosuke, Takara Idris Junnosuke, Junbi Haeina Junnosuke, Ebizo Minjuni Junnosuke, Yuhara Sadenia Junnosuke, Ando Jalenjin Junnosuke, and Maihan Eshani Junnosuke, alongside his older cousin Neosho “Neo” Zainari Junnosuke, whom the family helped raise. Unable to process it properly at such a young age, Koji experienced a severe emotional breakdown that led to long-term difficulties in expressing himself. Despite this, Koji is far from emotionless. He possesses a high level of emotional intelligence and is deeply empathetic, often understanding others better than they expect. These were two families known for intelligence, innovation, and long-standing contributions to science, technology, and public development. While the Egusas are respected across different parts of Japan, especially Kushiro, the Junnosukes hold a much larger and more complicated influence over Calyoiana itself. The Junnosukes are one of the original families tied to the growth of the megacity, and over generations, they helped shape Calyoiana through engineering, medicine, digital infrastructure, scientific research, architecture, city planning, and political influence. However, their name has not always carried pure admiration. Due to the actions of several corrupt paternal relatives, the family’s reputation had begun to fracture by the time Onaga was young. Koji’s branch of the family would later become one of the reasons the Junnosuke name regained much of its former respect.
Onaga Kwaehyung Junnosuke was born in the Heart Spire of Calyoiana to Ken-jae Yamato Junnosuke and Momoe Diamond Junnosuke (née Domoto). He is the oldest of four children. His younger siblings are Renzo Daijari Junnosuke, Nishida Ayalyn Junnosuke, and Chikako Malikae Junnosuke. Onaga is tall, slim, and deceptively strong, having the kind of sleeper build that only becomes obvious when he has to move quickly or fight seriously. He has cool dark beige skin, sharp golden-orange eyes that often appear cold or almost reptilian, rectangular glasses, and dark emerald-green and black hair that is usually semi-straight and semi-wavy. His hair is one of his most recognizable features because of how it frames his head almost like the crest of a dragon or frilled lizard. When he becomes furious, the shape and movement of his hair almost makes it seem as if it flares with him, adding to the reason he later becomes known as the Frilled Komodo of Calyoiana.
From a young age, Onaga was intelligent, introverted, calculated, and difficult to intimidate. His father often described him as a brilliant mastermind with a temper like a pressure reactor, quiet on the outside until the wrong valve was touched. He was not an easy child in the sense that he questioned everything and rarely accepted authority without reason, but he was still deeply attached to his family. He respected his parents, especially his mother, and was noticeably softer around his sisters. Nishida brought out his protective side, while Chikako brought out a gentleness that many people outside of the family never saw. Chikako was neurodivergent and struggled with certain executive functioning, sensory, and communication difficulties when she was younger, so Onaga often helped her with routines, school materials, and overwhelming environments. He would sit with her during loud family gatherings, help her organize her thoughts into color-coded notes, and make sure no one mocked her when she struggled to explain herself. With Nishida, he was protective in a more playful way, often walking her places, helping her with projects, and pretending not to care when she dragged him into small sibling activities.
His relationship with Renzo was more complicated. Onaga loved his younger brother, but he was harder on him because he saw how easily Renzo could be influenced by the wrong people. Several of their paternal uncles were cruel, selfish, and opportunistic men who damaged the Junnosuke name for their own benefit, and Onaga despised them for how they treated the family. Because of that, he became strict with Renzo, not out of hatred, but out of fear that Renzo would fall into the same hole. He often corrected him sharply, argued with him, and refused to let him hide behind excuses. Still, Onaga included Renzo in family activities, helped him when he was lost, and protected him when outsiders tried to use him. Their bond was tense, but it was never empty.
Despite his cold reputation, Onaga had many quiet bonding moments with his family. He and Ken-jae often played strategy games late at night, not just for fun, but as a way for his father to teach him negotiation, patience, and reading people. Momoe taught him how to cook certain family dishes and would make him help with grocery lists because she said a genius who could not run a household was only half useful. With Renzo, he built small mechanical kits and sometimes repaired old radios, even if most of those sessions turned into arguments. With Nishida and Chikako, he watched animated films, helped them draw character designs, and made small gadgets to make their school days easier. One of Chikako’s favorite things was when Onaga made her a little sensory light box that changed colors based on touch pressure, and even though he acted like it was nothing, he kept upgrading it whenever she asked.
Onaga attended Kodawari Academy of Multimedia Design from early childhood through high school alongside his siblings. During his youth, he became friends with Ken’ichi Hayami, Cordell Hayami, Roseanne Uemura, Chiyuki Doiya, and Satorou Ejiri. Out of all of them, Satorou became one of his most important friends. The two had known each other since they were little, and their friendship became almost unbreakable. They bonded over their love of arts, animation, anime, cartoons, design, and technology, even though their personalities were very different. Satorou was more openly expressive and humorous, while Onaga had a sharper, colder way of carrying himself. Still, they balanced each other well. Satorou could make Onaga laugh when no one else could, and Onaga could ground Satorou when things became too chaotic.
Almost every day, Onaga had to gather his siblings and walk them home before doing anything else, and he never truly minded it. It became part of his routine and part of his identity as the eldest child. Even when he complained, he always made sure they were safe. At school, however, Onaga’s life was not always easy. Because of the actions of his paternal uncles and the growing distrust toward certain members of the Junnosuke family, he was excluded from opportunities and judged before people got to know him. At first, this hurt him deeply, but over time it hardened him. He became colder, more confrontational, and much less willing to seek approval. He developed a reputation for savagery among both students and staff because he would verbally tear people apart if they underestimated him, and he was not above fighting those who bothered him, his friends, or his siblings. Even with that reputation, his grades stayed excellent. He was loved by some, respected by many, and feared by enough people that his name became difficult to ignore.
Onaga also had a form of dyslexia called patterned script distortion, a fictional learning condition that affects how he processes certain written symbols, numbers, and visual sequences. Rather than making him less intelligent, it forced him to develop unusual workarounds. He became excellent at memorizing structure, recognizing patterns, and mentally rotating information. This eventually helped his talent for systems, strategy, and visual design. However, it also made school frustrating at times because people assumed his occasional reading errors meant carelessness. He hated being seen as careless more than almost anything, which is part of why he became so precise.
As Onaga grew older, Calyoiana itself was struggling. The megacity was still powerful, but parts of it were falling into neglect due to poor leadership, corruption, and the damage caused by the more selfish branches of his family. The Junnosukes still held influence, but that influence was beginning to weaken. Onaga, seeing the damage firsthand, began building his own presence. He studied diplomacy, business, urban development, and technological infrastructure with the same intensity that others studied survival. With help from his parents, he began pushing back against his uncles and slowly turning the reputation of the Junnosukes back in a better direction. He did not limit his work to the Heart Spire or the elite districts either. He reached out to smaller cities, neglected neighborhoods, and off-the-grid communities. One of these places was Tsumago, the village connected to Gorou and Daiana Suzuki, the parents of Kure Haruka Suzuki. Through those alliances, Onaga learned that influence meant nothing if it only protected the wealthy.
During high school, while walking home with his sisters and Satorou, Onaga noticed a young lady around his age being harassed by Benjiro Kiyofusa Arakane and a small group of his friends. Onaga told Satorou to take his sisters ahead while he handled the situation. At first, he wanted to beat them outright, but he forced himself to be cordial and created distance between the young woman and Benjiro’s group. He tried to talk Benjiro down, but when Benjiro sucker punched him and broke his glasses, Onaga lost control. The punch flipped a switch in him, and he beat Benjiro and his group badly enough that the story spread through both schools for weeks.
After the fight, Onaga composed himself despite being bloody and bruised. He wiped the blood from his lip, picked up what remained of his broken glasses, put them in his pocket, and asked the young woman if she was alright. Without making a dramatic speech or expecting praise, he helped her up and offered to walk her somewhere safe. She agreed, and he escorted her home in silence. When they reached her porch, he left almost as quickly as he had appeared, never giving her his name.
The young woman was Sayuri Lanamia Egusa, who had recently moved to Calyoiana. Onaga did not know that she would become his future wife. A few days later, he discovered that she had transferred into Kodawari Academy and shared some of his classes. When Sayuri saw him again, she approached him, thanked him properly, and gave him a gift. She had collected pieces of his broken lenses after the fight and brought them to her father, Munoto Heise Egusa, an optometrist, who used them to help make Onaga a few new pairs of glasses. Onaga initially rejected the gift, partly out of pride and partly because he was not used to being treated kindly by someone who barely knew him. Eventually, he relented. Satorou, delighted by the entire situation, invited Sayuri to sit with them at lunch. Onaga was irritated with him for interfering, but he allowed it.
At first, Onaga was distant and cold with Sayuri, although he was still gentlemanly toward her. Sayuri, however, was not easily pushed away. She kept walking with him, talking with him, and studying with him. She helped him when his patterned script distortion made certain assignments frustrating, and he helped her transition into Kodawari’s competitive environment. Over time, Onaga began to trust her. They met each other’s families, even though some of the Egusas had old tension with the Junnosukes due to academic rivalries, business disputes, and competition over technological awards. They visited fun places, worked on projects, attended school events, and slowly became inseparable.
Sayuri fell in love with him first, though Onaga was too emotionally guarded to notice it clearly. She asked Satorou for help, and Satorou happily played wingman. One evening, while Onaga was walking her home, Sayuri told him how much she enjoyed being with him, how safe he made her feel, and how much she admired his mind, his loyalty, and the way he made her laugh without trying. She was afraid that saying too much would ruin their bond, so instead of fully confessing in words, she kissed him on the lips, thanked him, and went inside. Onaga was left standing there completely still, mentally and emotionally stunned. That single moment rewired him. By the next school day, he asked her out directly, and from that point on he became deeply devoted to her.
After graduating, Onaga and Sayuri moved into their own space, got married, and started college. Onaga continued his diplomatic and rebuilding work in Calyoiana, eventually becoming a technocratic councilman, infrastructure strategist, and private systems architect. His work involved city security, disaster response systems, scientific funding networks, district redevelopment, and technological policy. Publicly, he became known as the Frilled Komodo of Calyoiana, a brilliant and intimidating man who could destroy an argument, a corrupt company, or an unstable contract with terrifying precision. Privately, he was a passionate husband and later a doting father.
When Sayuri became pregnant with their first child, Riku, during their college years, Onaga made the choice to pause his own education so she could finish hers first. Around twenty minutes later, Onaga returned with a child. Sayuri was shocked, but Onaga explained that Roseanne was too ill and overwhelmed to care for Renzo’s baby daughter, Neosho “Neo” Zainari Junnosuke, especially after Renzo’s affair and repeated irresponsibility. Onaga decided that Neo would be raised with their family while still maintaining a relationship with both of her biological parents. Sayuri agreed, and from that point forward, Neo was treated as one of their own. Onaga cursed out Renzo, helped Roseanne recover, and made sure Neo was never punished for the mistakes of the adults around her.

One notable incident from Koji’s childhood happened when Koji and Heron got lost in a large mall complex after accidentally wandering too far from their families. The situation quickly became serious when certain adults acted suspiciously around them and others delayed the search out of negligence. Onaga and Satorou immediately moved to find their sons. Satorou focused on calming the situation and coordinating with security, while Onaga personally confronted anyone who tried to block them or downplay the danger. By the time Koji and Heron were found, Onaga’s composure was barely intact, and those who had mishandled the search learned very quickly why he was feared. Koji remembered that day not only because he had been scared, but because his father’s first reaction when finding him was not anger. It was relief.
When Koji was around ten, a traumatic incident occurred at an expo partially hosted by his family. What began as a dangerous situation involving corporate negligence and internal conflict escalated into a public scandal due to the involvement of Renzo, who had been trying to recover his reputation, and a powerful CEO. Onaga immediately focused on getting his wife and children to safety. When Ebizo was caught in a dangerous position, Onaga wasted no time saving him, but he was badly injured in the process. He nearly lost an eye and later performed emergency work on himself to stabilize the damage before proper surgery could fully repair it. The scar near his eye became one of his most visible marks. Onaga had never been a stranger to scars or fights, but this one carried a different weight because it happened while protecting his family. He never blamed his children or Sayuri. Instead, he directed his fury toward the people responsible and made sure they faced consequences. The incident deeply affected Koji, who struggled with the aftermath, the press, and the pressure to appear fine.
Onaga’s protective nature became even more dangerous when his best friend Satorou Ejiri was placed in a semi-conscious, semi-comatose state after a car rammed into him and his wife Hannah while they were pulling into their driveway. The vehicle was later traced back to the Virulent Omniscient Invisible Division, also known as V01D, a dangerous organization with cult-like goals centered around destruction, nothingness, and the creation of a new world from the end of the current one. Onaga was enraged and devastated. He formed a secret force to investigate and combat V01D-related threats, and he personally went after the man connected to the attack. He also collaborated with the Masayoshi Force, a division of the International Justice Department that specialized in global threats. This event further solidified Onaga as someone who was not merely a businessman or councilman, but a man willing to become a weapon when the people he loved were endangered.
Most people only know Onaga as the Frilled Komodo of Calyoiana, a cold, brilliant, intimidating councilman with a legendary reputation. Those close to him know he is far more complex. He is a husband who would pause his future for his wife, a father who would walk through fire for his children, a brother who loves harshly because he fears loss, and a friend whose loyalty can alter the course of entire organizations. Sayuri Lanamia Junnosuke (née Egusa) was born in Kushiro, Japan, to Munoto Heise Egusa and Aneyo Mananoke Egusa. She is the third oldest of seven children. Her older twin sisters are Erena Zurika Egusa and Osena Amaya Egusa, while her younger siblings are Ryota Omaryo Egusa, Minoru Zolika Egusa, Kairi Imika Egusa, and Jotaro Kofuron Egusa. The age order is Erena, Osena, Sayuri, Ryota, Minoru, Kairi, and Jotaro. Sayuri has tawny brown skin, long wavy light indigo hair, warm amber-brown eyes, soft almond-shaped eyes, and a bright, expressive face that makes her emotions easy to read. She is fairly tall with a curvy, graceful build, carrying herself with a mixture of elegance and warmth. Because of this, Sayuri may have encountered Onaga’s name before she properly met him, mostly through competition records and school gossip. She knew the Junnosuke name, and she knew some people treated it with admiration while others treated it with suspicion. During her time at Lucent Meridian, Sayuri briefly dated Benjiro Kiyofusa Arakane. At first, he seemed charming, confident, and attentive, but over time he became controlling, bitter, and possessive. Sayuri ended the relationship after he tried to sabotage one of her academic presentations out of jealousy and then blamed her for embarrassing him. After that, she avoided him as much as possible.
Before entering ninth grade, Sayuri transferred to Kodawari Academy of Multimedia Design. While still adjusting to the megacity, she often took walks to learn Calyoiana for herself rather than only experiencing it through her family’s schedule. Sometimes she took Jotaro with her because he enjoyed exploring, but one day she went alone. That was when Benjiro approached her with a group of people and began harassing her. He was still bitter about their breakup and angry that she had moved forward without him. The situation escalated until Onaga intervened. Sayuri was frightened at first, but when Onaga protected her, checked on her, and quietly walked her home without demanding anything from her, her fear slowly turned into admiration.
Sayuri did not know his name at first, but she wanted to thank him properly. After seeing his broken glasses, she collected enough pieces to help her father make replacements. When she encountered Onaga again at Kodawari Academy, she gave him the glasses and thanked him. Although he seemed cold and distant, she noticed that his actions were careful, controlled, and considerate. She was surprised by how much gentleness could hide beneath such a sharp exterior. She began sitting with him and Satorou at lunch, then walking with him after school. Eventually, those walks became one of the most important routines in both of their lives.
At Kodawari, Sayuri thrived academically while also helping Onaga with some of the frustrations caused by his patterned script distortion. She never treated him as broken or lesser for it. Instead, she helped him create cleaner notes, visual markers, and symbol systems that made certain schoolwork easier to process. In return, Onaga helped her adjust to the school’s culture and protected her from people who tried to use her popularity against her. The two learned about each other’s families, ambitions, flaws, and fears. Sayuri discovered that Onaga had lost certain competitions to members of the Egusa family before, which amused her greatly, and she teased him about it whenever she wanted to get a reaction out of him.
Sayuri was the first to fully admit to herself that she loved him. She asked Satorou how to approach it, and he happily encouraged her. One night, after Onaga walked her home, she told him how much she valued their time together and how afraid she was of losing him if she said the wrong thing. She complimented his mind, his loyalty, his humor, his protectiveness, and the way he made her feel seen. When the words became too difficult, she kissed him instead. The kiss left Onaga stunned, and by the next day, he asked her out. Their relationship became one of the most grounding forces in his life, and many people believe Sayuri is one of the main reasons Onaga mellowed out as much as he did.
After graduation, Sayuri and Onaga built a life together while continuing their education. Sayuri studied optical engineering, biomedical interface design, and human-centered technology. Over time, she became a neuro-optics specialist and assistive technology designer, working on advanced lenses, visual processing tools, adaptive displays, and wearable sensory devices. Her work bridges the Egusa and Junnosuke traditions because it is scientific, technological, and deeply personal. She creates tools for people with visual, neurological, or sensory differences, and she is especially respected for making designs that feel beautiful instead of clinical.
As a mother, Sayuri was warm, attentive, and emotionally open. She was the parent who most often noticed when one of the children was overwhelmed, hiding something, or pretending to be fine. She encouraged her children to talk about their feelings, but she never forced them to perform emotions they were not ready to show. This became especially important for Koji after the expo incident that damaged his ability to emote easily. Sayuri understood that Koji was not emotionless. She knew his quietness, his pauses, and his dry comments all meant something. She helped him rebuild emotional expression slowly through small exercises, humor, music, shared hobbies, and gentle reassurance. From Sayuri, Koji inherited his emotional intelligence, his compassion, his eye for functional design, and his belief that technology should protect people rather than simply impress them.
Sayuri was also deeply supportive of Neosho after Onaga brought her into the household. She never treated Neo like a burden or an outsider. Instead, she helped create a stable environment where Neo could still know both sides of her family without feeling like she had to carry their mistakes. Sayuri’s ability to love without making a child feel indebted is one of her strongest traits as a mother.
Overall, Sayuri Lanamia Junnosuke is the emotional warmth to Onaga’s controlled intensity. She is brilliant, loving, socially graceful, and quietly formidable. While Onaga taught Koji how to protect systems, defend himself, and carry a legacy without bowing under it, Sayuri taught him how to care for people, design with purpose, and understand emotions even when they are hard to show. Together, Onaga and Sayuri shaped Koji into someone who is calm, perceptive, humorous, protective, and deeply human beneath his unreadable expression.
History of developing this character:
Back in February 2021 after binging a bunch of Danganronpa. I realized that A LOT of the canonical characters need well a Therapist. Of course with that being said: I HAD NO CLUE WHAT CAST YAHIRA SHOULD BE IN! Then I decided: "Nah, let's make a whole new cast, but put them in college!"
Ok if Yahira is the protag... where's everyone else... I NEEDED MORE ULTIMATES. So I came up with 23 others. As for Koji's:
Guess which Danganronpa character was back for this inspo? Yeah, Byakuya had apparently inspired 2 of the characters, but I swear they are for slightly different reasons!
While with Tetsuo's creation, the Byakuya inspiration was more about Byakuya's outlook on life/ his personality. However, with Good ol Ko suke, it was quite literally the surname legacy. Yeah, apparently the Togamis in the actual universe are so rich and influential, so I nabbed that from Byakuya, but maybe Koji is a lot more... approachable, as in he's a lot more humble, and he doesn't immediately look like he would look you up and down in disgust.
Speaking of which, back when New Legacy was briefly a part of the canonical DR universe, Koji canonically couldn't stand someone like Byakuya or the Togamis because of how they operate and how Byakuya talked to him when they were little. It WAS QUITE LITERALLY ON SIGHT and was going to be one of the times his emotions and how he felt was on par consistenly. I mean, Cely was also negatively affected by the Togamis in the original, which is way worse than Koji's encounter (I think you can guess how she was affected by the Togamis), however, she is a much more forgiving character.
But like I said, this was when New Legacy WAS considered to be a part of the SAME UNIVERSE. Do I think Koji, who still does not like Byakuya in this now detached universe? Yeah. I can still see it.
ANYWAY, THE POINT IS BYAKUYA INSPIRED KOJI AS WELL. So I took that and added a cyberpunk techy feel to him. And hacking/creating firewalls, but also his being a part of a successful techy and sciency family, made a lot of sense to me, hence his ultimate.
I also just now noticed that Koji's and Byakuya's hair and eye color are kinda swapped... THAT WASN'T INTENTIONAL AT ALL!
And all of these inspos and stuff from the moodboard became this! Back in February of 2021.

DW this is just beachwear which I may or may not update for the cast.
I also asked YNALR to help me with him as well, he didn't do too much with him. He just drew him a few times with some slight changes.
He is also one of the few who had a fairly consistent design, so I didn't change too much with his. So there's not too much to say, except for some color adjustments and refinements to minor things like his tie, his outfit, and the wrist tops he wears.
