BACKGROUND

Born in Hidehill to Lee Jung-hoon and Chae-won, Jae was born the eldest son of his family, with one little sister. The couple initially struggled with infertility after getting married, causing an early rift in the twos marriage that Jae would grow up to witness himself.

His parents viewed him as their golden child, the glue that held a broken marriage together. Growing up, he had an immense amount of pressure placed on him to be the best. He also tended to have to deal with his parents fighting in front of him more often than his sister ever did, Jae constantly put in the middle as a child.

As a result of this, Jae grew up with the notion that being in a relationship didn’t amount to being happy. And even as he'd grow older, his subconscious would remind him of it, steering him away from the idea of romance with the exception of a few relationships when he was younger.

Aside from his views on love however, he had always been a kind-hearted and caring person, more than happy to go the extra mile for those he cared about.

He also grew up to be incredibly ambitious. Class president and valedictorian of his high school class, valuing his education greatly. Had his parents had the money, Jae would've committed to going to his dream school, Harvard on early admission. Instead though, he'd stay somewhat close to home and attend Duke University on a scholarship in North Carolina.

It was Jae’s mother who had opened the Pet Doctor. She'd had a love for animals her entire life, and Jae was the same as his mother, volunteering at the local pet shelter when he wasn't busy with school. He also had been the one to help his mother out when she’d opened the clinic, his own love of animals growing enough to make him decide to pursue becoming a veterinarian.

What he hadn't expected, was to return from vet school and be handed the keys to one of mothers pride and joy. Turns out, in Jae’s time away at college, his parent’s relationship worsened, ending in a messy divorce that would make Chae-won move for her own mental health. It was natural for her to leave her business to her eldest son, who was her first pride and joy really.

Becoming a business owner wasn’t exactly his plan. Jae had always been extremely smart and easy to pick up new things, but taking over an entire business with employees fresh out of school would prove to be the first challenge he incurred in life. 

Upon first glance, he probably comes across as the kind of guy who would be a great boyfriend. Kind, caring, humble. The kind of guy you'd want to introduce to your parents. The only problem was, most girls never really make it that far. Jae’s the type for one night stands, meaningless flings. He tends to cut it off if he can tell any feelings are arising on either part. He’s found himself giving the whole “I think we’d be better as friends” spiel, not wanting to actually hurt anyone.

“i’d start running in the mornings but i would hate to go alone.” especially with the shadow back. it made her feel not so safe. hell bringing out lola by herself made her feel iffy about being out there. after seeing jae though, it made her feel at least some what relieved.  "don’t worry about me. i usually stick to my house, where it’s definitely a lot more safe.“ she replied. it was true though at least. pushing herself off of the bench, she walked over to where he was with lola. "you better be staying safe too.”

"If you ever need a partner, you've got me," he offered with a smile. He didn't feel like he could afford to let the Shadow get to him. To him, it didn't really feel like any where was safe. The most recent deaths happened in someone's home, not out in towns. He wouldn't mention that to Mariana, though, who already seemed cautious. "I am... but you and I probably have different definitions of safe."

Jae didn't know if he could move on, let alone forget what was happening between them. It was a problem for later, yet the both of them only seemed to be making it feel like a larger one with their words spoken. It was their one time to do this, to get it out of their system. But the more he had her, the longer they remained in each other's arms, the harder it felt to get Achara out of his mind. He was telling himself he'd find a way to feel normal around her again after this. It wasn't the first time he'd slept with someone that was really just a friend to him before, there was no reason that this had to be different from the rest. 

Except, it was. He felt beyond out of control, a ragged breath leaving his lips at the feeling of her tightening around him. Everything she did left him feeling intoxicated, especially the way her body responded to his, unraveling him in a way that he'd never felt before. All of the reserve and the restraint he'd had was far gone, wanting nothing more than to make her feel good, to overwhelm her, to send her off the edge. Every thrust and touch and clouded thought revolves around her in that moment, paying attention to every part of her body. His hand settled under her back, holding her steady and close to him as they kissed, trailing towards the back of her neck. His gaze remained steady on her, enjoying every bit of watching her fall apart right in front of him. The trembling of her body against his didn't stop the intensity of his movements, the feeling of clenching tightly around him only making him pull his fingers out to grip her waist. 

Knowing that look on her face, and the loud moans escaping her mouth was because of him turned him on, making him chase his own high. Hips rolled against hers, slamming into her wetness without remorse and holding her up in front of him. His lips found hers again, deeply kissing her with shallow moans separating each one. "Fuck," he mumbled under his breath. His thrusts became rougher and less consistent, her pulsing insides sending him to his own release. He pulled away from her, forcing his eyes to meet hers just as she'd done the same with him, a moan escaping his lips before kissing her once more. He let himself relax, heavy breaths sounding out as he looked at her, reality coming back to him after a few moments. But Jae couldn't bring his eyes to look around, knowing now that he wouldn't see anything good, eyes remained on her as he spoke.

“How is it possible to be out of caramel at eight in the morning?” Connor questioned in disbelief as he eyes darted back to the menu displayed above him. It was clear with his tone that he was taken off guard and couldn’t help but wonder if this was just to mess with him on what would of been an ordinary Friday morning. “Hey — can whatever you’re getting equally replace the lack of caramel flavor behind the counter? I’m too tired to work out a back up plan.”

Running on his usual few hours of sleep, he had always needed coffee to start and get through his day, in line at the cafe. "Sorry, I usually drink my coffee black," he replied, glancing at Chase. An iced americano was more of an acquired taste, and not for someone that liked caramel. He hadn’t ever really seen a reason to drink a sweeter option, seeing as he drank coffee for the caffeine. "Maybe you could try vanilla? That's a pretty common one."

Chase clears his throat, knowing that Jae was one of Selin’s best friends and maybe he should have checked his surroundings a little better before opening his big mouth. He brushes his tongue along his lower lip as he gestures to one of the machines. “Was hopin’ you’d spot me?”

Sure, he probably had a few reasons to not like Chase, based on what others had said. But he wasn't in a position to take sides, knowing there were multiple sides to every story. And even if that wasn't considered, Jae wasn't a mean person to begin with. "Sure, no problem," he replied, standing up and stepping behind the machine.

Dilara glances over towards him as she presses her lips together. Things have been more tense since Halloween. Everyone was constantly looking over their shoulders and now it was even worse after what happened with that house. Furrowing her brows as she starts collecting some of the paper work to organize it for him, thankful that he allows her to come volunteer her time because she’s not sure what she would be doing right now without it. “Yeah, I’ve been trying to keep busy every since.” She was constantly running around, checking in on people and when she wasn’t at work, she was with Nate.

It was probably better for him to stay busy, all things considered. The Shadow was back, the fire in Hove Lake enough to remind everyone that they'd never be safe in this town. It was nice to have Dilara here, especially given that he'd been filling in for his receptionist being out. "I'm the same. It's easier to stay busy, keep your mind occupied and off everything going on," he let out "But it's not that healthy." Jae thinks he'd know that better than anyone, even if he ignored it most of the time.

“Hm?” He looks up at Jae, taking a sip of his beer before he sits up a little straighter. He’s been absentmindedly watching the Titans game, not really putting his focus and attention there, but it was something distracting enough. His interest is clearly piqued. “Oh this is going to be good.” Whenever Jae broaches something in a similar way, he knows it’s going to be interesting in some way. “You know it won’t. What’s up?”

He rolls his eyes at the others initial response, taking another sip of beer and leaning back onto the couch. His attention had only been on the game slightly, mind elsewhere for most of the night. It was best to just be straightforward, the question leaving his lips casually. "How bad is it to think about another girl during sex?" It wasn't as if it was voluntarily happening, nor was it something that he'd ever gone through before. "Not the entire time... maybe just towards the end." He wondered if that made it a bit better. “And the middle too.”

with the shadow back from what it seemed, it scared mariana. though she wouldn’t admit it out loud. leaning back on the bench, she watched as lola laid on the grass next to her feet.  most of the time, she would sit, but today she wasn’t. eyes wandering around, they stopped when she saw jae walking. “thought you would be working.” she called to him. it was in that moment that her corgi, lola went running over to him. she didn’t mind it at all either.

Working out was something that Jae did pretty often, mostly going to the gym but when the weather was nice, for a run. It was a good stress reliever, especially given that the Shadow seemed to be back. Reducing his speed to a jog, it didn't take long before he noticed Mariana, her corgi that he'd met plenty of times prior coming towards him, prompting him to bend down and give her a pet. "I wanted to get a run in before work," he responded, glancing up at Mariana with Lola still beside him. "How have you been? Staying safe I hope."

The back of his mind would tell him that he wanted more. That being her friend would never be enough for him. But he couldn't be selfish with her, not any more than he'd already been. He was the kind of person who put others before himself, the kind of person that carried everything on his shoulders even when he didn't have to. It didn't matter if he stared at her for moments too long, if she made it easy for him to be happy, if he'd secretly feel his heart beat faster whenever they'd get too close. Jae knew he couldn't do what he'd done to other girls, make false promises with his words and actions that he couldn't keep. The protectiveness he felt towards her would have to extend to himself as well, reminding him of the kind of guy he was, and how he'd do anything to not hurt her. Even if that meant swallowing anything he'd felt.

His words were bold, even if they'd both have to find a way to forget what had happened here. The part of himself that was beyond uninhibited in front of her though, didn't want to forget. He wanted to remember every little sound that came out of her mouth, the way she looked at him and said things that both surprised and turned him on. He wanted to remember the feeling of being inside of her, how her eyes would fall back in pleasure all because of him. Truthfully, he wanted to remember it all, even if he had to pretend otherwise. Her words made him lean down, kissing her deeply as he thrusted inside of her, the images she described embedded in his mind as he closed his eyes for a moment. "I will," he mumbled, kissing her fervently as every push inside of her became faster, letting go and feeling out of breath. Even now, deep inside of her and controlling the pace, he would do anything she said, completely under her control. Lifting one of her legs over his shoulder now, he used the new angle to push deeper into her, hips grounding against hers and hand gripping at the side of her thigh. "You have no idea what you do to me," he let out between grunts, pushing two of his fingers inside of her, curling them alongside his length. "Cum for me." “I been havin’ a lot of trouble with my pug lately…” she started off seeming as though she was completely serious. A frown playing on her lips as she placed her bag on the counter, closing her eyes and shaking her head. Once her eyes opened again, she looked the man in his eyes and let out the deepest of sighs. “She been super bloated, always cryin’ and I’m startin’ to think that maybe she got some you know… mental issues or somethin’. But.. how do you determine if your dog got somethin’ wrong in the brain?” Finally, she pulled her cellphone out, pulling up a photo of Heather and placing the phone on the counter. “Look at her, Dr. Lee… she looks God Awful.”

With Aaliyah taking some time off work, he’d found himself trying to stick by the front of the clinic, taking care of any receptionist duties. Which most certainly included talking to anyone that came in. Jae took her genuinely seriously in the beginning, fully thinking that she really did have a dog with a few mental health issues. That was, until he looked down at her phone, brows furrowing as it was clearly a picture of Heather Jones and not a pug. “Uh... are you sure you pulled up the right picture?”

Truthfully, it wasn’t that Bash was just his best friend, he wasn’t really sure if he could ask anyone else this without sounding like a complete asshole. Setting his beer down on the coffee table, he looked at the other again. “But it can’t leave this apartment.”

“It’s only when they misbehave I have to give them a serious look! If I don’t do something I’ll never be able to get through a lesson,” she explains, laughing lightly. However, Gracia definitely one of the more gentle teachers at school, she doesn’t believe in scaring students into behaving. Of course, sometimes she had to be serious, but she liked to establish rapport with her students. “Snake? Oh no… Yeah, I think it’s cute if it stays away from me. Do you have to hold it? It doesn’t bite you, does it?” She scrunches her nose, eyes widening slightly. “I hope so. I think we all need it.” But unfortunately, she didn’t know if anyone would be able to fully move past what happened. “You’re only one of his favorite because you give him those special vet treats.” She scoffs playfully, waving her hand before she smiles. “As long as I’m still his number one, we’re cool. But yes, you should visit. Whenever you want.”

“I don’t know, Gracie, the school year will end and you might have to worry about them telling the younger ones about you,” he joked again, fully knowing it was beyond far from the truth. Jae definitely had a certain respect for her being a teacher, he didn’t think it was something he could ever do. “I don’t think they’re really that scary. Most animals can sense what people feel, so as long as you’re calm, most of them are usually fine. I can’t say snakes are my favorite though,” he replied, nodding at her following words. He did wonder if Hidehill would ever be the same, something that sounded pretty far fetched at the moment. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, animals naturally love me, Ollie included.” The corner of his lips turned upwards as he spoke.  “I’ll remember that, really.”

“I scared you right there didn’t I? I use that look on my students,” she jokes. It was a funny look on someone who always had a gentle and soft expression on her face. She smiles at his words, watching him reach for the bag and open it for the food. “Don’t mention it.” Though the words do mean to her. She loved doing things for people. “Yeah? At least you get to see all the fur babies and other cute animals, right?” Should be a bright side despite the business. “I’m alright. It’s been a hectic few days, save for today, obviously, since you know, I’m here around lunch time.” She shakes her head when she realizes she’s explaining the obvious. She reaches for her box of fries. “Anyway, Ollie’s growing up and he misses you.”

“Mhm, you’re real scary. You’ve gotta be careful or your kids will be scared of you forever,” he teased. Truthfully, Jae thought that Gracia was way too sweet to ever come off as a scary or intimidating person. He grinned at her, taking out the food as he listened to her. “There is that, yeah. Someone brought in their pet snake though, which probably isn’t that cute of animal,” he replied with a shrug. He did love his job, even when it was busy and even on the days were he had to go home far later than usual. “That’s good. Hopefully things will finally start to relax around here again, right?” Jae really did hope things would calm down, at the very least, for the sake of everyone. “I’ll come visit you one of these days. I can tell I’m one of his favorites already,” he joked.

    the woman felt utterly embarrassed by her behaviour and people kept bringing it up. it was clear that she’d had some sort of breakdown and that was not funny. however, people had also been intoxicated and probably didn’t see it for what it was - a public spectacle to get some help. turning back around to face the other, claire shrugged. “i made a lot of mistakes, jaehyun. you have to know that.” she could feel tears welling in her eyes and that was the shame setting in. she had cried about it privately but this was only a reminder. “however, you have to know that i’d never try to physically hurt anyone. i wasn’t myself that night but you have to believe me when i say i didn’t touch your sister.” that accusation had ended it for her. it had sent her into a panic and she couldn’t stop crying as she’d struggled with security guards to let her go. claire never wanted to be in that position ever again. “i’m going to…” she shuffled on the spot and averted her eyes. “-see someone about it.”

Of course, what had happened at Club Envy had affected people very differently. Some had taken things harder than others, versus those who seemed to be moving forward with life. It wasn’t that he didn’t feel sympathy or sadness for those who had died or been hurt, but Jae had always been someone with a good hold on his emotions. He just wasn’t the kind of person to ever have a meltdown, let alone in public. Though, he could tell that Claire needed some help after her behavior in the forum and at the party, sober at the time of her public breakdown. “I.. believe you. I’m sure my sister sees that now as well. It was all a misunderstanding,” he spoke, reluctant to say the reason he believed her was because he’d watched it all happen. Despite that, he hadn’t protested when security had to remove her, because it was clear that it wasn’t the right place for her to be in the first place.“That’s good.”

“they’re kind of the reason i’m here. we’ve kind of bumped into their music on the internet and the rest is history.” carlisle gestures at himself with a small smile on his face. perhaps this town is really that small that everyone knows each other. he then stares down at his down, listening to jae as he talks about the pair of killers–the shadow and explained their fates. he’s only seen and read the news about it, but hearing it straight from jae felt like something else, something he can’t put his finger on, but he lets him continue. “here’s to hoping it is really over, bruv.” he raised his glass at the other.

“Guess it really is a small town after all. You’ll like ‘em, they’re good people. Talented, too,” Jae replied, shooting a grin in the other’s direction before taking a sip of his drink. Everyone knew everyone in this town, one way or another. Maybe that’s why it was the perfect place for the Shadow to wreck havok, a place like this, where people trusted their neighbors. Having that trust taken away had left most shaken up. Jae hoped his suspicions were wrong though, and that things were over. “Cheers to that.” Clinking his glass against Carlisle’s, he downed the rest of his drink as a salut.
