I hope this message finds you well. My name is Ashley.miles.phil and I’m a queer refugee from Uganda, currently residing in the Gorom refugee camp in South Sudan. I understand this message might come as a surprise, but I felt compelled to reach out given the circumstances my community and I are facing.

As the representative of a group of LGBTIQ refugees here, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dire conditions we endure daily. Many of us are starving, living without access to proper food, water, or medical care. Some members of our community are also living with HIV/AIDS and struggle to access treatment. The challenges we face are compounded by the harsh anti-LGBTIQ laws in South Sudan, which put us at constant risk of persecution.
