hi marty! i’m getting my top surgery next month (finally!!) and i was wondering if you had any advice for the recovery part. i’m still not really sure what to prepre for, stuff to buy, problems to expect and so on, and i consider you a fully credible source for all things queer. and just a very cool dude generally :>

Mazel tov! I'm so flattered that you asked me for advice. I looped in @otherhazards , because he has been there and done that, and because he helped me through my recovery.
Lay in a stock of high protein heat-and-eat prepared food. Make a big bunch of burritos and freeze them individually wrapped, for instance.
Get disposable plates and cutlery, particularly if you live alone. Plan how to avoid housework in general.
Follow all your doctor's instructions.
Keep a log of what medication you take and when. You may be on painkillers, so you're apt to forget whether you've taken your antibiotics. Take both exactly as prescribed.
Stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle nearby.
Sleep a lot. Have a small dog lay on you if at all possible.
Do not believe, after a couple days, that you are healed up "enough" and that now is an excellent time to, e.g., do small home repairs. You're not and it isn't. Lay back down.
