Spencer Finch's Sunset (Central Park), which premiered as part of Creative Time's 2015 project Drifting in Daylight in New York, is travelling cross-country for the first edition of the Seattle Art Fair. Using a custom solar-powered truck, Finch distills the colors of the sunset into delectable soft-serve ice cream cones that he has called "edible monochromes."

The truck will be stationed at a pop-up cafe outside the WaMu Theater for the duration of the fair. Visitors can experience the truck and its frozen treats from 8-10pm Thursday, 11am-7pm Friday and Saturday, and 12-6pm on Sunday. It's art you can eat!

The subtle, contemplative works picture above are currently installed at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Deigo as part of the recently opened exhibition “Pond Lily Over Mushroom Cloud: Byron Kim Adapts the Black on Black Cosmology of Maria Martinez.” Don’t miss your chance to experience them in person! John Cage was a pioneer of avant-garde music and art throughout the 20th century. A selection of his artwork is currently at view at the James Cohan Gallery booth (J6) at Art Basel, including Not Wanting To Say Anything About Marcel... (1969). This work, a series of nine “plexigrams,” constitutes Cage’s first mature visual artwork, which he created to honor his late friend and mentor, Marcel Duchamp. 

Also on view are Cage’s “smoke drawings.” The unique process that Cage and assistants used to prepare the paper can be seen in the photos above. The end result of this process is the compelling drawing in the last photo.

Art Basel 2015 is open to the public from June 18-June 21.

James Cohan Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition by Nigerian-British artist Yinka Shonibare MBE entitled Rage of the Ballet Gods, opening on April 30th running through June 20, 2015.

In this new body of work, Shonibare contemplates the changing state of the Earth’s climate and the human instinct for survival in the face of the extreme weather experienced worldwide. The artist is well known for his employment of historical events as metaphors with which to explore current geo-political and social conditions, and Rage of the Ballet Gods points to the progress of rational thought—a legacy of the Age of Enlightenment—that underlies the scientific advances propelling us towards environmental doom. Inspired to make a poetic statement, Shonibare turns to mythology to uncover this paradox. The exhibition is divided in two parts: Rage and Escape.

Preview Art Basel Hong Kong: Works by Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Cindy Sherman, Mickalene Thomas & More 

The newest Art Basel show and one of the fastest growing art fairs in Asia— Art Basel Hong Kong—opens on Sunday, March 15 at the Hong Kong Convention Centre. The fair’s third edition will present over 3,000 galleries from around the globe—including twenty-five ADAA members. Modern and Contemporary Masters will be prominent in our galleries’ booths. Surreal collages by Pablo Picasso, subversive portraits by Andy Warhol and sensual dreamscapes by photographer Yang Fudong are just a few of the works that will be on view.

Eleven Rivington will spotlight two emerging artists. In the fair’s Discoveries sector, the gallery will exhibit Mika Tajima’s “Furniture Art” series. For the Film program, the gallery will screen Adam Schecter’s “Last Man” on Monday, March 16.

Another special sector at the fair will be Encounters. Curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor—Executive Director of Artspace, Sydney—Encounters will display large-scale sculptures and installations outside of booths, in the halls. David Claerbout’s meditative “Radio Piece”—presented by Sean Kelly Gallery—will be included.
