today i am thinking about the eight bullets that kill enjolras, and how i always see people saying they represent his eight friends to die at the barricade, but when i first read his death what came to my mind was the eight men to escape the barricade alive: valjean, marius, javert, and the five men who are given the national guard uniforms. i think of those eight bullets being meant for those eight men, and enjolras taking them all. he did not change the world in the way he meant, but he changed the world for eight men, and that has to be enough.

Reading Sunrise on the Reaping and realizing that this is the first time that I'm older than the main character of a Hunger Games book

Katniss, his best friend's daughter. His drunken outburst at the 74th reaping was a performance, his attempt to maintain her dignity and Prim's. Her songs were his best friend's, but they were also his girl's. Her pin was Maysilee's, the girl he hated who got under skin and became his sister, the same way Katniss got under his skin and became like a daughter to him. Her braids reminded him of Louella, another sister he lost. Katniss lost Prim the same way he lost Sid. I am never recovering from this book -
