This bobtail snipe eel (Cyema atrum) was spotted at 1,941 meters (6,369 feet) in the Monterey Bay. Snipe eels in the family Nemichthyidae have thin, tweezer-like jaws that bend outwards. It was long debated how these fish actually eat, but we now know that they have tiny, backward-facing teeth that work almost like Velcro. They use them to capture small crustaceans and bring prey into their mouths with a series of rapid chomps.

Meet one of the largest bats in Central and South America: the black mastiff bat (Molossus rufus). This winged-mammal has a wingspan of up to 22 in (56 cm) and weighs in around 2.5 oz (70 g). Since this critter doesn’t migrate or hibernate, it spends most of its time roosting. It may even be found in colonies of up to 500 individuals! The black mastiff bat can travel as much as 250 mi (402 km) in a single night searching for food or water, although it typically stays within 6 mi (9.7 km) of its roost.

The City of Atlanta Georgia has decided to demolish the research and conservation center of the Amphibian Foundation. This organization works tirelessly to conserve the Frogs, Toads, Salamanders, Newts, and other amphibians in the United States. In addition, they provide key education for herpetologists on the care, conservation, and preservation of reptiles and amphibians.
This emergency need is compounded by the government mass firing of conservation officials and the pulling of funds from many of the country's conservation organizations.

The building where AF is located will be demolished in June 2026.

Our building will be demolished in 2026, and we need to identify a new location (or locations) for 7 labs and over 1,000 animals, many of which are endangered and part of critical conservation programs.
We've identified a new location for most of AF, but not our research and conservation programs. We have an amazing lead, but it's not confirmed yet.
Our first fundraising project is the AF Emergency Fund as the minimum cost estimates to move this many labs and animals safely is $50,000. (It costs about 50 USD per animal to move them)

Look at this cute lil twink tink. Tink (or dink) frogs are referred to as such for their calls that sound like a loud metallic ‘tink’. This one, the Yellow-Dyer Tink Frog (Diasporus citrinobapheus), actually dyes your skin/gloves a bright yellow-orange color when handled. Goddamn incredible Cheeto ass frog. Anyone else tempted to lick their fingers after holding one? No, just me? Shut up I’m not weird. You’re weird. And jealous of my adorable tink. Go to Panama and find your own.
