On A Budget? Affordable Ways To Make Your Home Look Like A Luxury Hotel!
Why does your holiday have to end the minute you check out of that luxury, boutique hotel? That sinking feeling of returning home to an un-made bed, clothes scattered everywhere, a messy living room and dirty bathroom.
Don’t you agree, it SHOULD be worth it to experience that luxury hotel feeling at home no matter the budget. A lavish lifestyle should not burn a hole in your pocket in order to achieve - just follow these simple steps.
1. Just because your guests do not usually see your bedroom and bathroom, these are a must for creating that lavish hotel living feel.
Your bed should be centre stage in your bedroom. When you think of hotel living you immediately think of comfort and sheer delights under the silky Egyptian cotton sheets. There are now great quality, affordable sheets on the high street now so no excuses on scrimping.
If you think of all the top end hotels, the bedrooms are always well designed, with matching bedding, covers and cushions - this is crucial!!
The headboard should be plush and comfortable as it is the first thing you notice when entering the room. A soft buttoned headboard screams Luxe!!
A really important point in any bedroom is that there is symmetry. Every beautiful bedroom has two bedside tables and a lamp on each one - again you do not have to spend an arm and a leg, there are literally dozens of shops that sell fancy looking lamps and trust me it is so important and makes so much difference to the look and feel of the room.
Essentially, the bedroom is the one room that you should not neglect. Sadly, it is the room that most homeowners ignore since guests do not tend to see it.
This is what greets you instantly as you enter that perfectly preened hotel lobby and it is also the first impression you give to anyone entering your lovely home therefore it is crucial we do not ignore this area!
Of course, we do not all have a lobby sized space by all means, but a little touch here and there makes a world of difference. Basically you can take snippets of what you might find in that boutique lobby - a glitzy mirror hanging above a console table and a lamp on either side with a beautiful arrangement of freshly picked Peonies and there you have it!
Doing this creates a kind of centre piece for you guests to focus on, it creates a flow with the space no matter how small. If you are lucky enough to have a larger space, you can’t go wrong with a round chunky table floating in the centre of the entrance - don’t forget some personal touches here and there of family photos, it is your home after all!!
The curtains in a luxury hotel are always beautifully made - but this is super expensive. There are now so may great quality fabrics out there to use for that lovely window treatment you need in your living room. It just makes a world of difference and creates an abundant luxury and cosiness for your home.
If you don’t know how to sew, then consider hiring someone who is willing to work within your budget. It’s always best to buy the fabric on your own and then have a seamstress work with that, as they tend to charge an overhead on their fabrics.
Keeping to a budget on curtains admittedly is tricky as cheaply made curtains really stands out and can ruin the luxury look you are trying to obtain.
To maintain the luxury look, think silks, damasks, and linen for your fabric choices and don’t forget black out fabric especially in bedrooms just like you would always find at any top end hotel.
Hotels are never lacking in light or dreary. Go for a large hanging pendant over your dining table to really showcase your dining room. Get rid of any boring simple lampshades which will be faded and dusty over time and think modern, sculptural lighting. Again, there are many department stores which offer affordable lighting whatever your taste.
Secondly, don’t forget a dimmer switch. This is key in achieving your hotel look as it creates mood that essential mood lighting.
If you wish to simply upgrade your lampshades or they just need freshening up - try adding a gold or velvet trim around the bottom to instantly create a more luxe effect. This can be used in all rooms!
5. Organise Your Clutter!
Hotels never have clutter or exposed ugly storage spaces. make sure that bookcases showcase your extensive leather bound reading collection. Any wires, chargers, plugs and games consoles should absolutely remain out of site.
Don’t be scared of some DIY, and add doors to an otherwise open exposed storage unit - this is always a great excuse to get some fancy ironmongery which will just add to that more refined look.
Flowers are usually the first thing you notice when being welcomed through the doors of a luxury hotel. This is just so simple yet so effective to transform your space!
This will not set you back much, even my local supermarket sells beautiful lilies or oversized sunflowers.
Not only is this a visual statement but flowers also create a beautiful scent, essential for that hotel feeling.
Your living room should always have a large palm indoor plant in a lovely chinoiserie or glazed pot, perfect for sitting pretty in a corner!
Mimicking a luxury hotel inside your own four walls is not as tricky and expensive as you may initially think. Whether budget is a concern or not, it is worth the small expense to add a hint of glamour to your home — especially the bedroom and bathroom.
It’s not about the amount of money you spend, rather the way you pull all your rooms together. Hopefully with these tips this is something you can achieve.
