“Come again? I didn’t catch that last bit.”
“I said can you pass the salt over?”
❝ You know I don’t pick sides.❞
❝ You— Wait. Those fries are mine. ❞
“I only took one bite! 항상 멜로 드라마, 사촌.” (tr: Always so melodramatic cous.)
Life certainly wasn’t easy. Especially not when you had a three year old daughter, who barely uttered three words to you since she started living with you. Jangwoo sighed, as he finally got up. Chae Rie was on the floor, playing with some toy he had just bought her. She was closed in her own world and it wasn’t just him or Kevin she didn’t talked to -- it was everyone else. When choosing a child to adopt, the 27 year old man went for Chaerie because there was just something about her that made him want to adopt her. Like he wanted to protect her and get to know her, before eve knowing her name. Still watching the small girl with a pained smile, Jangwoo poured himself some coffee and sat on the chair near the counter. “Sometimes I wonder if she’ll ever open up. To anyone.”

hwang, kevin.
"Ahh, so what would you say I was? Pure evil?"
“Something like that, yeah.”
krasniy, elena.
“You said it, not me.”
“And pry do tell, how exactly am I running from your friend, brother or whatever?”
park, sun hee.
“Sorry for asking, but are you in a bad mood?”
“Ah, I’m not in a bad mood. Do I give off that vibe? No wonder people have been staring at me all day. No -- I just have a lot of things to do, so I’d say I’m more stressed than anything.”
"But I’m Kevin Hwang. Incredibly handsome, kinda-nice, good with kids. How you didn’t notice me is beyond me."
“’Nice’.” Jangwoo couldn’t help but scoff at that. “A squirrel is nice, a turtle is nice. You, not so nice.”
"Are you really that unobservant? I remember you running into the studio to grab stuff for him before you would run back out."
“Like I said, working for Stephen Jung doesn’t exactly give you the opportunity to loiter around and notice people sleeping on his couch.”
"I used to crash on his couch, remember?"
“How the hell am I supposed to know that?”
"Understandable," Kevin nodded. "Ah, let me guess, our darling Stephen?"
“How do you know?”
"Yeah. I’m happy with my job. What about you, pretty boy? Last time I saw you, you were so excited to call your boss that you forgot I was there."
"I was hardly excited. Just had a lot of work to do. And I work part-time as an assistant to a pompous CEO.”
"Ah, I’m surprised Phoebe or Elena haven’t told you. I work at the martial arts studio. Started a while ago and they stuck me with the kids. I had the chance to move up to older levels but I chose not to."
“ -- -- I see. Well you always did liked kids, so it’s not that surprising.”
Satisfied that he ignored the topic, Kevin smiled. “Me? I’m up here because I like the view. I’m also busy thinking about my kids.”
“Your kids?”
"Oh, was that me? Such a shame I let that happen, huh? Sometimes I wonder what could have happened if I hadn’t done that to him. Pretty stupid move of mine, don’t you agree?"
Jangwoo simply rolled his eyes, unwilling to have this conversation yet again. “You never said why you were here in the first place.”
