the pain of grief keeping you stuck in time because what if you move on and it stops hurting so much, and you stop holding onto their memory so tight, and that means you really have lost them? vs perhaps the less relatable sentiment of "good god, girl, don't let this be for nothing."

moving past grief is a painful transformation because you will never ever be the same person you were before. your life, yourself, everything is going to be different now. lyctorhood the beautiful metaphor that you are.. (harrow struggling with lyctorhood as she struggles with her grief, the beautiful metaphor that YOU are.)

steinspirit in the way that who else could love a lost cause but another lost cause.

spirit sees himself as a total fuck up, and sees stein as Totally Fucked Up. they're both marked for death (LITERALLY in that spirit is the death scythe, come on) and so stein is the only person spirit feels he deserves, in all of his dangerous glory.

the willingness to stay by his side reveals a lot about how spirit views stein too, not just himself. despite his demonstrated capabilities, i think spirit has been too affected by being stein's government appointed best friend to be able to see him the way their peers see him, for better And worse.
