I am so excited about the Pompeii docuseries. It honestly even looks great and original. Tom doing it is a bonus (and unlike many others - or me - he does have actual education for it :D )

I needed some TeddyPine in my life again :)

Oh, I am absolutely still here, with Jonathan and Teddy. Aren´t you? :)
Random shower thought about Buffy, Willow...and Thor and Loki
So...last night, I was thinking about rewatching Buffy or Angel....and then a weird thought got stuck in my head. I was so amazed how all characters on those shows developed into more than what they were in the beginning, mostly into better versions of themselves.
And then I realized the only character, who more or less stayed the same, was Buffy. She developed emotionally, into an adult person, yes but then I thought...woah, Willow went from this geeky, grey mouse into a bad-ass Goddess in the end, with a stumble in the middle. And I thought, that it is actually a typical trope about how a hero in the beginning has a very limited space to grow. She had to be a hero right from the start, every mistake or misstep was caused more by circumstances and the only thing a hero can do is either go bad or do some questionable stuff but without losing the hero mantle and explain why she or he did what they did so it is not "that bad".
"The other one"...not so much. Take Willow, again. She got so good in the powers and grew so much as a personality, even took a "villain" turn at one point after a death of a loved one, then went back and saved everyone at the end. She had a full arc. Even with a growing ego and turning into a bit unbearable until she changed again.
Sure, this parallel could be done with ANY hero and side-kick, friend, partner, whoever....
But this is actually so colliding my two favourite fandoms. Thor was set up as a hero from the beginning. Yes, he was this reckless prince full of himself and Loki seemed the one more sensible. He was supportive, loved his family but to the point his world fell apart when he found out Odin lied to him. And then? He went through Avengers, The Dark World up to Infinity War where he sacrificed for his brother and then the development on the show, where he, again, got this awesome story arc going from a guy full of rage and revenge into a selfless hero.
Again, these comparisosn could be done with any similar characters.
But I think this is worth mentioning simply because both characters (and actors) were often referred as "the most popular" and "scene stealers". And kudos to both Sarah-Michelle Gellar and Chris Hemsworth for being good sports and go with it.
In two weeks, Tom will hopefully appear fully suited on red carpet for Olivier´s! And hopefully winning for Much Ado About Nothing! It´s been too long :)
Well, colour me shocked...
Much Ado nominated for Best Revival, and Tom for Best Actor!
Disappointed Jamie wasn’t nominated for either this or Evita, and would have liked to see Hayley nominated.
But somehow, we lucked out today!
I am also surprised. It seems that people giving away any awards in the UK have something against Tom but this is a nice surprise. But they dislike Jamie Lloyd, apparently. Maybe because he is successful, I guess
Only Lovers Alive appreciation
I love this movie. I think it is not for everybody - or better - for every mood. You just have to be IN the mood for it. I remember watching it first time back in 2013 and I did not get it.
I rewatched then later, about in 2020 and bang....LOVED IT. It is so moody, atmospheric, slow burn...it has a wonderful soundtrack and it just flows.
Tom and Tilda are a great match, where Eve is the older, wiser, but also more appraciating life. Adam is the artist, musician, who tends to get depressed. But they love each other, spend time separate, then together, they just...exist.
And they happen to be vampires.
That is the brilliant twist about it. And it is SO funny in places. Adam trying to "blend in" while wearing doctor´s gown, scaring his source for blood to death, or him and Eve getting rid of the body, fully proving they have done this before.
Ava appearing in their life, causing mayhem and then disappear again was just so random but you get an idea how their centuries long lives look like.
John Hurt and Anton Yelchin not being with us anymore is wild, especially Anton, gone too soon, taken away by a car accident that was not even his fault
If you haven´t seen the movie, I highly recommend it. But make sure you are seated and ready to just go with the flow....
It also helps if you are Jim Jarmusch fan who worked on this one forever.
when u almost kissed and killed him last night and now its low key awkward
Perfect post, really :D
What I loved about The Night Manager S2 was the way they totally flipped the trope of "lead male spy character getting a trophy lead female character", even doing it in trailers. They made us believe, from the trailers, that while there will be some tension between Jonathan and Teddy (heavily hinted in interviews already), that Roxy will be the primary love interest.
Well, she wasn´t. It was pretty refreshing to see her going just for herself, a survivor, who is not cold or ruthless but who has a strong survival instinct. So she helps Jonathan because she knows what they are doing is wrong, but when she finds out theere is *nothing* in it for her (or is lied to, Jonathan still has a team in Basil and Sally back then), she flips. Was it the final straw to get Teddy killed? Probably not. Roper would have found out anyway and would do the same thing.
What is so fascinating about Jonathan and Teddy that it is actually very slow, despite all of that happening during a couple of days. Jonathan first marks Teddy but at the airport, he has no reason to lie anymore. His cover will be blown, that much he knows, Teddy is leaving and he still does what he does. So doing whatever he was doing there was real.
In their final scene, you can see Teddy giving up, but still happy he has this guy he fell in love with.
Jonathan, still very much confused about those feelings (he avoids them, doesn t want them but cannot help them), keeps saying to Teddy to have faith because he believes in the plan. And believes he has time. I think it will haunt him forever.
I think S3 will be an interesting place for Jonathan Pine. He lost everybody, except Sally, who may be or may not be able to help him because she is probably compromised herself. The guilt trip over Teddy´s death will be enormous.
Teddy being "Jed of S2" was a masterful twist and I love them for it.
I also need Tom and Diego in some other project together because, as much as Tom can have a chemistry with a brick wall, a chemistry that could start a fire, is very rare, even for great actors like these two.
While I am still recovering from The Night Manager S2 finale, Tom delivers this. God, I love this man. He can shatter our hearts by the most tragic endings and stories (does he have something against happy characters with happy endings?) and then become a bundle of joy, dancing through life.
His last three projects made me cry at the end, Loki S2 with this epic sacrifice, The Life of Chuck where he celebrates life in a very bittersweet way and then this.
(P.S. Going into TNM, I did not expect a story of a tragic romance but here we are...Jonathan and Teddy, you deserved more time together I hope Jonathan in S3 will turn all his rage into revenge and will get that bastard once and for all)
Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager is saving me this January.
Life has been a bit hard lately, work related stuff incredibly sucked but things are turning for better and tom being everywhere almost DAILY helps,
I dread February when we will probably get nothing (but Olympics start so for me, it will be a distraction) but until then, I am loving it

The Night Manager S2 spoilers....don´t read if you did not watch it yet.
Let me tell you, how much I LOVED this scene and not only for the obvious "they have such a great chemistry!" reasons.
I swear if this season goes on with this greatly crafted scenes, it may turn out even better than S1 (and it is on the way)
The way this scene is built is exactly what Tom (and others) spoke about. It is about a play, lies, deception but also about how the characters are actually vulnerable, how Jonathan gets in over his head, how Teddy is kind of a wounded soul beneath it all and how Roxy has her own agenda and you never know whose side she is on.
First, the acting here is perfect. Camilla gets very overlooked here but Roxy was the one who pushed Jonathan to the pool to not only end the party that was probably going to kill him eventually (because he is not used to drinking and taking drugs, let´s be honest here) and she knew it was the test he would probably eventually fail. She did it after he told her "help me" because it was starting to get too much for him. And when he starts talking, she looks resigned, waiting for him to spill the beans because he seems delirious. She looks scared, worried, she knows if he starts telling the truth, Teddy kills them both Then Jonathan starts talking yet ANOTHER fake story, perfectly in control, telling the "truth" to gain Teddy´s trust. And then her expression changes into surprised and to "he is better than I thought" or "I did not expect that"
And the "dance" between Teddy and Jonathan....the touches where Teddy very softly strokes Jonathan´s hair, playing the caring type (who he maybe is when it comes to Matthew/Jonathan?), only very softly, almost asking for a permission.
And then Jonathan touches very intimately Teddy´s hand with his finger. Very intimate gesture, basically encouraging for more and saying "It´s OK", while making himself very vulnerable.
He then settles, shifts his position, his head relaxes in the lap like "I feel safe and comfortable" but is it a play? Or does he feel that way, momentarily, while telling the fabricated story?
And he seems to be taken by Teddy and Teddy by Jonathan.
Given the "twist" of Teddy being Roper´s son was dropped in the middle of episode 2 casually, it was not meant to be THE twist, they knew it was kind of obvious so they played as if we always knew (which I think everybody who saw any TV or a movie, figured out after a while)
No, they did it because we are now curious how the story unfolds.
Jonathan hated Roper as at the same time, he was also trying not to fall under his charm as others did and had a silent amdiration for him while despising him at the same time. That made their relationship interesting.
Why they revelead it this soon is only the beginning to how the story will unfold, makes us curious (and I am). The irony of Jonathan hating/taking down Roper (and still having nightmares) while maybe seducing (?), being maybe in relationship or slightly smitten (is he, will he or won´t he?) with his son, that would be so fascinating to watch.
I am also very curious where Roxy falls here because she plays with both men, too.
If this works and if this will continue to be as good and gradually more interesting and intense as this scene, I think we are in for a ride.
(And I hope they start filming S3 soon, I don´t want to wait another couple of years for a new season, which at this point, is already two years away, given they did not start filming yet)
Watching The Night Manager S2 for the plot....
It´s too soon to tell but so far, it seems Tom Hiddleston has more chemistry with Diego Calva than Camila. But I am sure we will get to that, too.
But so far, I am loving Jonathan and Teddy very much. However dysfunctional, toxic, dangerous and probably tragic this thing will be
Also, first two episodes were AMAZING. I hope they will keep this up. But to wait a week for new episode is insane (and as a kid of the 80s and 90s, I was used to wait years for new episodes but this is just not fair now :D )
