Jasmina regarded his hands highly, apparently. They showed bravery and hard work. And she meant the things she said. Iulian closed his hands into a gentle fist, letting the words linger in the air before responding.
"I. Thank you, princess."
The corner of his mouth shifted yet again. Warmer, this time. He inhaled slowly, then reached — not for Jasmina, but for the furs. Instinctively, he pulled them closer to her, avoiding her gaze in an attempt at being unfazed by her words.
"You should rest," Iulian said, before his hands returned to his thighs. "The night is not as long as it seems. And we will have a longer day tomorrow."
Things had certainly changed between them that night, and Iulian was thankful for the intimacy. Jasmina was his wife, and he was relieved she did not feel like a stranger.
"I will stay here," Iulian said, "and protect you from the wolves."
Iulian stood from the cot, moving over to the stool where he previously sat. The furs on the ground would be comfortable enough.
"You may wake me if you feel frightened. I won't let anything harm you."
There was movement from Iulian's mouth that spreads over Jasmina like a blanket. Something appreciative, perhaps. Warm and soft. He leans over to adjust her furs, ensuring she is snug and covered and once again her eyes track every movement of his hands as he does.
It feels rather difficult to swallow.
Iulian— her husband — bades her to rest. Tomorrow would be a long day.
'I will stay here,' Close. Iulian would stay close, and the affection building inside her chest rejoices— though, saints, there's something like an ache too, when he moves from the cot, this yearning inside her to feel his body pressed even more close. She wonders what their marriage bed would look like. Were there drapes, they could pull around them? Was it large and dark and solid, adorned with carvings? Maybe each night their limbs would lay tangled up together— Iulian's are so large. She likes the idea of that. 'and protect you from the wolves.'
Yes. Of that Jasmina has no doubt.
'You may wake me if you feel frightened. I won't let anything harm you.'
Face warm, she reclines back upon the cot. Never once has a man seen her like this— hair strewn about her like the waves of a river, undone and undressed and ready to sleep. But this was Iulian. Her husband.
"I know you will," she murmurs.
She somehow, miraculously, manages to swallow. Another exhale, and she lets her arm tuck beneath her head— the other coming to extend outward on the cot. Just resting there comfortably. Quiet. Pointed in Iulian's direction.
"And you may wake me. If— well. For anything."
No— she did not think Iulian would be frightened tonight. She did not think it may even be possible! But she wants it to extend both ways. Jasmina wanted Iulian to know that she could be roused from sleep, from any reason, and would not be cross with him, or swat or sigh or grouse. Her husband could always seek her.
She feels very warm now— very tired, relaxed, lids dropping like the royal title she drops from his name in lieu of something more intimate.
"... Thank you. Iulian."
