Ji: You sound like you've been reading too many conspiracy theories on facebook. Ji: I have an extra bottle of the one I like. It's good for dry skin since the ice is very drying. I'll bring it over so you can try it.
Jae: You might be right. Some of them seem kind of legit though. Jae: Still not sure I need sunscreen inside but you're too good to me. I'll try it. For your sake. Jae: I'll even order takeout.
Ji: Every day!! How do you not know this?? 😭 Ji: UV rays can reach you through your windows. And you need vitamin d from the sun so you can't just keep the blinds closed. Ji: What brand of sunscreen do you like? I'm writing it down so I can pick it up later.
Jae: Wearing sunscreen inside sounds like a scam from big pharma or something. Jae: Uh. The cheapest kind I can find at the corner store? I've also had the same bottle for a few years so I might not be the best judge. Jae: Are you saying you have a favorite sunscreen brand?
Eli: ARE YOU A VAMPIRE?
Jae: Nothing that fun. Jae: Just a dweeb.
Ji: You need it every day!! Ji: Even if you're not out long Ji: Hyung is bringing sunscreen to your apartment after practice.
Jae: ... Every day? Jae: Hypothetically, what if one decided to just stop going outside? I don't like leaving my apartment anyway. Jae: I mean, hypothetically.
Ji: Don't you use sunscreen?? Ji: Hyung will bring you sunscreen next time.
Jae: I didn't think I'd need it. Jae: I wasn't out *that* long. Jae: Now I have regrets.
Jae: I made the mistake of going outside during daylight hours earlier Jae: Why is it so hot? Jae: Why do I live in a place that gets so hot that my skin burns? Jae: I'm never going outside again.

Ji grinned. “Thank you. I know you are the soul of discretion,” he replied. He trusted his friends with most if not all of his secrets, especially Jae. “I think you’ll really like what we picked this time.” Digging out his phone, he filed through some pictures. “Here, this one is for my free skate.” He paused to let Jae take a look at it. “And this one is for my short program.” He showed the second photo with a few examples of the front and back. “Pretty, right?” He was grateful Jae agreed to go on walks with him, for both of their sakes. He wasn’t lying about it being good for his physical therapy, and it would be nice to have the company.
Jae looked at all of the pictures before reaching out and scrolling back to the first outfit. “They’re both really good but I like this one best. The blues and greens look good on you.” It reminded him of water, which made sense in a competition revolving around ice. He sipped from his iced coffee again before looking back up. “How’s your family doing?” He wondered how they were handling Ji being back in Port Cado and skating again.
ji-florez:
“Perfect,” Ji replied. “You’ll get to be one of the first to see my new program. Very confidential. Oh! I had fittings for my new costumes too. I’ll send you pictures. But also very confidential.” He chuckled, though it was the truth. At the Autumn Classic, he’d have his moment to reveal his costumes. “Now that hyung is back, you have to take walks with me. It’s good for my physical therapy.” In many ways Jae was like one of his younger brothers. Ji nagged them all similarly to eat well and go outside and take good care.
“Ahh, of course. You can count on me. No one’ll hear from me just how pretty you’ll look.” Jae smirked and chuckled. He’d tease, but he was good with keeping a secret. He kept them all the time for complete strangers, so keeping one for his best friend was a piece of cake. “I guess I could do the occasional walk.” He grumbled, but there was no doubt that he’d do anything to help Ji. He’d just have to suck it up from time to time.
ji-florez:
“You want to come on Saturday?” Ji asked, genuinely always happy to have friends come to his practices. He was lucky to have supportive friends in his life who had any interest in his career at all. “You don’t have to go out often, but you should at least make sure you’re getting a little bit of sun and fresh air each day. I know it’s easy to stay cooped up.” Though his home was not what it used to be, Ji could understand wanting to be home quite a bit. He hardly spent every evening out and about. He liked having a small circle of good friends. But he knew it was all about balance, and he wanted Jae to have that too.
“I can do Saturday.” Jae smiled, actually eager to see his best friend on the ice again. It would be good to see him back in his element. “Sun and fresh air? Boo.” He wrinkled his nose and laughed. “I’ll open a window. I’m fine, don’t worry. Really. I got some sun today and didn’t even burst into flames or anything.” He laughed and nudged at Ji’s arm.

Ji smiled and nodded his head. He knew Jae had worried about him. During the time of the accident, Jae had been the first person Ji thought to call. Well, to have the hospital call, and he couldn’t imagine what it was like for Jae to get that call. There’s been an accident. Ji never wanted to take his friend’s concern for granted. “I won’t. There’s always some risk, but we’re being as careful as we can.” Ji smiled as he listened to Jae. “That’s nice. I’m glad you get that ease in your work schedule. You do go out sometimes though, right?”
“Good,” Jae said with a nod. He didn’t expect Ji to live his life in a bubble and give up the things he loved in life, but it did make him feel better to be reassured that he was being cautious. “When do I get to come watch a practice again?” Jae wasn’t much of an athletic type, aside from working out in a gym. The most graceful thing he could do was reply to emails and eat ramen at the same time, so he was always in awe when he watched Ji skate. “I don’t have to go out very often.” He shrugged and took a bite of muffin. He knew Ji worried about him too, but it was no secret that he was more of a homebody than anything.
ji-florez:
“No it does not count,” Ji insisted. “Because any good it’ll do will be wrecked by your coffee anyway. It smells nice though.” Sitting back, Ji reached up to tie his hair back into a sloppy little bun. “Mm. It’s going okay. I’m okay. It’s nice to be back. I have to visit my physical therapist more than I used to, and my body hurts most days, but it’s worth it. I’m getting stronger again.” He smiled. “What about you? How is work?”
Jae grinned before taking a long sip from his coffee. Eventually he’d probably have to cut back on his caffeine intake, but he prayed to any god listening that it wouldn’t happen anytime soon. “Good. Don’t push too hard though. You don’t need any injuries from trying to get back where you were too soon.” He couldn’t help but worry about Ji even more now than he had before. Not after all that he’d endured. “It’s fine. Steady. They still let me work from home most of the time so that’s nice.” His boss didn’t seem to care if Jae stepped foot in the office at all as long as his work was getting done.
ji-florez:
“You are very special,” Ji agreed. “No no, it’s balanced out nicely by the oat milk. You’re definitely safer with matcha, but I still say you should try something herbal. How about a nice lavender tea? Or chamomile?” Ji was the kind of person who put his body in all kinds of risk for his career, but somehow it seemed Jae was taking the bigger risks by sitting at a desk all day and drinking too much caffeine. It truly was a wonder his height hadn’t been stunted somewhere along the way. “Mm…I missed you being a brat in the kitchen.” He smiled. “Ah, I need to be good now that I’m training again. I’m okay though.”
“Eh. I’ll think about it.” Jae made his way up to the counter and promptly ordered himself a basic iced coffee, and when he was glancing at the pastry case a very specific muffin caught his eye. After a few minutes he returned to their table with a grin on his face. “Does a lemon-lavender muffin count? Sure, it probably has some sugar, but it’s still got lavender in it.” He laughed and sipped from his coffee. That was an addiction he wasn’t even going to try to break. “How’s training going? You doing okay?”
ji-florez:
“Caffeine is supposed to stunt your growth, not encourage it,” Ji complained, reaching up to pat Jae’s head. “Hyung can’t afford to lose any inches. Not until I’m old and naturally gray.” Sitting back down, Ji lifted his beverage. “Mm, I got an iced matcha latte. Isn’t it a pretty shade of green? What do you want to drink? We should get you something herbal so you might actually sleep tonight. I’ll have to cook you a meal too. No more takeout now that hyung is back.” He grinned, genuinely happy to have his friend back in front of him. FaceTime calls just weren’t the same. As much as he’d needed his family, being without his Port Cado community just reminded him of everything he’d lost.
“But I’m special,” Jae joked with a smirk. Then he looked at Ji’s green drink and grimaced. “I don’t mind matcha but that seems like a lot of it. Does it taste green? I think I’d be safer with my normal iced coffee, even if it won’t help me sleep." He’d never admit it, but Jae had missed Ji fussing over him. “I’ll never get rid of takeout, but I won’t say no to your cooking. I’ve missed annoying you in the kitchen.” He reached out and flicked Ji’s shoulder before turning towards the counter. “Do you want a muffin or something, or does that go against your healthy food lifestyle?”

Being back in Port Cado filled Jiwoo with a lot of different feelings. Apprehension, grief, and some relief. The care of his parents and siblings had been needed during the past six months, but now he had to return to his life. He was grateful to have Jae to return to, the normal of their coffee dates a comfort Ji needed too. When the other submissive entered the coffee shop, Ji smiled and waved him over, standing to give him a hug. “Why do you look like you’ve grown even taller since I last saw you?” he asked with a chuckle.

Jae had a small group of people around him that he genuinely cared about and felt relaxed around. Life was more comfortable that way. That meant that when Ji had been in his accident, it had really shaken him. His best friend had lost his Dominant, had been injured, and had left the country. Jae didn’t get out much as it was, and without Ji he had even less of a reason to. Ji’s recovery and return to the states had been a relief and even though he wasn’t big on public displays of affection with most people, it was easy to wrap his best friend in a hug. “Because I’m a growing boy who thrives on caffeine and takeout,” he said with a laugh as well. “Or maybe you’re just shrinking.” He grinned and nudged his friend to sit back down. “Did you order anything yet?”
