"It's every time I've seen my mom's estranged side of the family and not given them a piece of my mind. I don't mourn not having a relationship with them because there was never a relationship to begin with. I can't miss something I never had—but the anger inside of me isn't for me. It's for my brother and my mom."

They don't talk about it much but I know it hurts them, to have cousins and aunts and uncles only a neighbourhood or two away who don't want anything to do with us. My mom is a pretty amazing woman who loves us unconditionally and has always supported us and Ravi is a testament to that. It's all of them who are missing out on knowing what an extraordinary person he is and how much of a reflection of our Dad he is." @ravirussell

"Okay, first of all -- it's a Subermegence t-shirt. The band isn't just Xavier Matthews," Shiloh argues with a roll of her eyes.

Personally, the bassist was more of her type but if she was batting for the other team she would have been a bigger fan of the drummer.

"Second of all, he's kind of a dick so it's not like burning a screen-printed shirt of his face is that big of a loss. Third of all, yes."

Jaswinder took a closer look at the burning garment, equally just as horrified to find it wasn’t her sole Xavier t-shirt but her Submergence t-shirt from their last tour.

“Not the point.” Jas said with a glower, hands firm on her hips. “Boxing up anything of mine that I left at your apartment never crossed your mind?” She exhaled loudly through her nose, tongue pressed against the inside of her cheek.

“There’s only one dick here right now and it’s not the guy who has his face on a t-shirt,” Jas said on a frustrated breath, watching in defeat and helplessness as her favourite shirt burned away on the pyre like the last of her hope that they might be able to salvage a friendship out of the ruins of their relationship. @shilohsharma

Sterling shook her head at Jas' laughter but she couldn't quite contain her own either. She noticed the older woman near them glaring at them for giggling so much while a very concerned resident of Aurora Bay was sharing their opinion. Sterling couldn't help it though and the glares made her struggle even more to stay quiet.

It was when Jas put her hands on her shoulders that Sterling's eyes widened and it took everything in her not to burst out laughing. "Are you threatening me?" She had to cover her mouth with her hand for a moment to keep from laughing before adding, "there's no way I'm going up there. Why don't you do it?"

"I'm not not threatening you," Jas said with a pointed look, canting her head from side-to-side. “Threatening is such an ugly word,” said Jas, gesturing animatedly with her hands. “It’s more of an incentive.” She added with a cheerful tone.

“I’m incentivising you to stand up and declare it outrageous and shameful that nobody is discussing the graffiti penis or you will find a graffiti penis of your own tagged onto the side of your house.” She was bluffing, of course. Jaswinder didn’t have an artistic bone in her body despite many efforts to become the next Van Gough. @sterlingxlevin

"Like literally anywhere? The cafe three doors down, the beach, that charming little cottage all the tourists go to, the freaking club?" Phoebe says, exasperated. Sure, there was a part of her that couldn't look away from the actual trainwreck unfolding before them, but there was also a part of her that was developing a very intense headache.

"I can't believe the insanity that's coming out of your mouth right now. RHOBH pulls in the ratings. Real Housewives of Aurora Bay wouldn't make it past pilot season," the brunette says with a scoff. "Have you ever even participated in one of these?" @jasrussell

"Babe," Jaswinder says with all the bluntness of a child telling their uncle their belly does look huge in that shirt, "Let me hold your hand when I say this; nobody is missing the cafe three doors down, a little cottage or a small town bar."

The beach she would admit was a hidden gem amongst the Californian coast. Nothing beat a sunset like an Aurora Bay sunset. She'd seen beaches when she had been on tour, but they were nothing compared to the golden sands of Aurora Bay and left much to the imagination.

"Real Housewives of Aurora Bay would kill," Jas protested with a harsh whisper to avoid anymore scowls from across the room. "Have you ever spent the day just people watching on aurora bay drive? Or eavesdropping on their conversations over brunch? These women are unhinged and I'm obsessed with them!" @phoebekeller

She preferred things handed to her on a plate—not that had ever been the case for her. Advika and Arthur always made sure her children knew what it meant to work hard to achieve your goals. Wren easily shot the other woman a smile and nodded, "Yeah, totally. We have a list behind the register for people to pick things up. Usually we hold records and things for up to 72 hours but my boss is chill and would probably let it go for longer." One of the many reasons she liked her job so much- Ford was a solid boss and an even more solid person. "White Noise. I'll keep that in mind, maybe snag it for myself before I go later. Any others you've got in mind? Both for myself and for me to keep behind the counter for you?"

Jaswinder flashed an appreciative smile at the redhead, resting her hip against the counter as she finished paying for the vinyl she had selected for Noah's present and slipping it into her tote bag that hung haphazardly from her shoulder. "I promise I'll be back before the seventy two hour window is up." Jas said with a two fingered salute. If the stores leftover collectors editions were as good as she hoped they were, she'd be needing more than the thirty five dollars that she had left loose in the bottom of her tote.

“ this seems like a very leading sort of statement then. Or at the very least kind of a trick. By saying I was lucky to not watch it and that I would need compensation had I watched it, but then immediately condemning me for admitting I was feeling lucky in response to you bringing it up to begin with. It’s very confusing. “ he replied back. That honestly had him very confused. Cause he had heard a lot of negative things about it but from what she had previously said it seemed like that was still the case. He probably misheard something because now he felt like he got lead into an argument he wasn’t trying to be in. It mostly chair confused him and that was clear from the look on his face. “ during town meetings? “ he asked agqin making sure he was actually hearing this correctly. “ well the clean up crew for it would probably have some complaints but as long as no one actively got hurt from anything, wait did people get hurt from it?” He asked not wanting to make the same mistake again when it came to questioning the show. @jasrussell

"Did people get hurt from having an ice cold slush thrown in their face?" Jaswinder said slowly for clarification. "Obviously it hurt." She deadpanned, shooting him a judgemental look.

"Don't you think a cup of ice to the face would hurt?"

"I think working in a small town police department pencil pushing has killed your braincells." Jas swatted his shoulder playfully with the back of her hand. "Maybe you should give up the badge and try something new. Something that stimulates your mind." @is-it-gabriel

"Jas Russell," Mavis repeated with a nod, to commit it to memory. She was already sure anything she found would make a better pre-bedtime watch than the Nara Smith videos her TikTok algorithm had taken to feeding her.

(It was probably Mavis's own fault at this point, but she could never bring herself to scroll away. The woman had a soothing voice, sue her.)

"This is cool, though, I didn't expect to meet a celebrity today. How'd you get into it in the first place?"

"Fair enough, I guess," she replied with a laugh. "And, hey, you made someone happy. It's still weird, but it's a net positive, I think."

Mavis rotated her shoulders back, trying to ease some of the tension that this particular line of conversation had worked into them. "Personal experience?" she asked, deflecting.

Maybe she was a little too paranoid, but with every person she met in town, she couldn't help but wonder exactly how many degrees of separation they were from her sister. Even if Mavis had somehow managed to get lost in it already, Aurora Bay was still small, the kind of place of that screamed that everyone was always in everyone's else's business.

"That's...ominous. Is your family kind of fucked up too?"

"Hardly," Jas said bashfully, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "I'm not sure one comedy showcase and a few viral TikTok's make me a celebrity but I appreciate the admiration all the same." Jas considered herself more of an up and coming comedian, she just didn't know when the coming part would arrive.

"Comedy? Oh, I just wasn't hugged enough as a kid growing up so now I seek validation from strangers." She deadpanned, a smirk cracking her facade. "No, I've just always loved being the centre of attention in every situation I'm in and I have parents who support every endeavour I've ever looked into." Naturally the route she had taken was struggling comedian.

"I think my parents were hoping I would get this whole comedian thing out of my system and then find a real job but they were really supportive once they knew it wasn't another one of my sixty minute careers."

Jas cast a sidewards glance at the brunette, her attempt at deflecting the question as bright as a neon sign. If she didn't want to talk about it then Jas wouldn't push the matter further.

Everybody had old wounds they didn't want to re-open.

"Let's just say I could walk past my mom's side of the family who have lived here my whole life and I wouldn't know them from Adam." said Jas, voice laced with a bitterness she hadn't felt towards the Mohiuddin's since she had first learned of their existence from her brother. Ravi had been the one who had struggled with having a family who wanted nothing to do with them, Jas had always aired on the side of unflinching disinterest in somebody who had no interest in her. @maviscampbell
