Alicia listened to her brother, rocking on the heels of her feet. To say this was an uncomfortable situation was an understatement. She nodded her head, running a hand through her hair. “I do understand where you are coming from Javi” she said the familiar nickname rolling off her tongue like they just saw each other yesterday. “Javier, I understand what I did was horrible and it hurt you and I’m sure mami and papi, but at the time that I left I didn’t think about all that, I was thinking about drugs and sex. And when I was finally getting clean I wasn’t thinking about coming home because I was scared.” She said shrugging her shoulders. “None of it excuses my behavior. I understand a text, an email, a phone call, or even a letter could have worked but I didn’t send it because I was afraid that if I did you’d come look for me, and I wasn’t ready nor strong enough to face you or my past” she said honestly. Alicia wasn’t expecting her brother to forgive her over night if at all but she was hoping they could slowly start building up something eventually. “But please don’t blame Rebecca” she said nodding her head. “She wanted to tell you where I was so many times, but I made her promise she wouldn’t or I’d walk away. If she did not even she would know where I was.” She said sighing, watching as he rocked the babies crib. “You can be hurt by her actions if you want, but don’t blame her or hate her. I love you hermano and I know she does too.”
...
Javier’s shoulders rolled back, the tension in his back radiating between the blades. He wasn’t someone who enjoyed situations like this. He wasn’t one for heart to hearts or long disgusting confessions. In fact, he was more stubborn than that. He knew it was one of the reasons him and Stevie didn’t work out. He wasn’t someone who saw the world the way she had and this was one of the reasons. He spent so many years, pulling himself out of hole he dug as a teenager, the blame of his sister’s disappearance and potential death weighed heavily on him to the point where he kept people at arms length for so long. He crossed his arms over his chest, shaking his head a little as he glanced down towards the sleeping baby. “You have no idea what you did to this family,” he raised his eye back up towards her. He hadn’t talked to their parents since. All the insults they threw his way because he was truly to blame for the path Alicia took. “You can leave.” He gestured towards the door. “If you’re sticking around, I’m sure I’ll see you soon.” He said, reaching down to pick up the baby in the rocker. He moved towards his office, shutting the door behind him.
END.
