The sun came through the curtains like an unwelcomed guest. Sarah’s work alarm, a series of soft persistent chimes that felt more like cymbals to her ears thanks to the headache that was banging like a jackhammer in her skull. She groaned, one hand reaching to rub her eyes. They burned from the combination of crying for hours and falling asleep in her makeup. Fuck.. her eyes must’ve been red as all hell. She glanced over at the picture that was still in her other hand. Must’ve fallen asleep with it.
Nikki’s smiling face. The sight of it made her unbearably nauseous..
With a groan she shuffled off of her bed, padding towards the bathroom to get ready, brush her teeth, though her appearance and hygiene was the last thing she gave a shit about right now.
As Sarah made her way to her door, one shoe barely on her foot, she felt her phone chime with the sound of her message notification.
Hey, can you take my shift ? I got plans today. I was working closing.
She huffed, typing back a quick dry response and heading out the door. Her head was so full.. full of worry, full of pain.
[Later, At The Music Store]
Sarah was very clearly distracted, buried in her phone instead of the merchandise that needed labeled sorted off to it’s rightful place.
She was scrounging and scavenging every god damn corner of the internet for information. Anything about the “wishing toy” Baron had mention. And she’d almost thought she found something that sounded relevant.. almost helpful. As helpful as a subreddit could be before—
“Damnit kid eyes on your work— you’ve been on your phone all morning.”
“—what? What, what’d you see?”
As soon as Sarah looked up he saw it.. the tired bags under her eyes, tear stains, eyes red from the mix of hours of sobbing and chemicals.
“You look like shit hon.”
Have you even gotten any sleep?”
“You know you can talk to me kiddo. I’m always here for you.”
God she did not need this right now..
“I’m fine dad— really I’m fine. I just have a lot on my mind with college and life and yknow. Everything.”
“Maybe you should dial it back a bit. It’s not like those colleges are going anywhere.”
“Dad, I’ve got it seriously.. besides I can’t cut back now.. my portfolio was rejected like six times..”
“Didn’t you get your letter from Luther ? What’d it say?”
“I didn’t open it. There’s nothing to it.”
Her fathers concerned voice was cut off by the sound of another’s. Softer, lighter. And though it was painfully out of character, she’d recognize it anywhere.
“Hey Sarah, could you help me stack these boxes ? You’re taller and all—“
“Jesus Nikki what happened to your face?”
Sarah’s father asked bluntly. An obvious look of unease plastered across his face.
Nikki looked puzzled for a moment. Then, a look of realization, followed by that sickeningly sweet smile. So synthetic in it’s joy. Nikki raised a hand to the side of her face, gently tracing her fingers across the healing cuts like she was just discovering them for the first time.
Her laughter was soft. Disturbingly unbothered, simply waving off the question like it was any other casual slip up.
“I was at a party and— y'know I really shouldn’t have drank so much but I fell and landed on something sharp. I’m really lucky the injury wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been..
It’s really my fault, I should’ve cut back on the tequila but I just wanted to let loose for the night.. yknow, since Sarah got her letter back from Luther?
Shit happens at celebrations.”
Her laughter betrayed the terror of what had actually happened.
The guttural screams that left her throat when she shattered half a bottle of tequila against Ian’s coffee table and repeatedly plunged the jagged glass into the soft flesh of her face.. over.. and over.. and over.
All while screaming, calling to someone— anyone that it wasn’t her.. begging for someone to see. To understand..
Nikki wouldn’t do this to herself.. someone would see and understand. And they would save her.. they had to.
They didn’t. They watched.. they gasped. But they remained passive horrified bystanders as Bear leashed her throat and made her crawl back home a prized pet.
Their shared boss said with what sounded like a tired, yet relieved sigh, before walking off to go finish another postponed task. Murmuring something about responsible drinking and “simpler times.”
“So uhm, can you help me?”
Sarah, previously stuck in her own head and zoned out of the world around her, nodded. She kept pace as she followed Nikki away to the dark storage closet that never before felt so far.. so dark. Once a room so unimportant now felt like it was hidden in the deepest darkest part of the music store. Nikki wordlessly shoved a box hard into Sarah’s arms.
Sarah blinked, looking down at the box in confusion.. She was trying her damnedest to remain calm. She didn’t want to say or do anything that might accidentally set Nikki off. Like last night.. like at the party.
“Oh.. Kay then..? Where did you want me to put th—“
Nikki cut in, leaving no room for conversation.
She carried on stacking whatever Nikki handed her in a fluid motion, there was an thick blanket of tension in the air that rested heavy on Sarah’s shoulders.
And despite how “fine” she was actively trying to portray herself, she could see it weighing on Nikki too.
The silence dragged till Sarah finally said cut it.
“So.. you’ve finally started your book?”
It came off as trying to make casual conversation. But even then her efforts to appear as someone who wasn’t worried out of her mind were completely in vain.
She’d gone through so many emotions in these past weeks..
Heartbreak, when she first heard the news.. her soulmate falling for a guy that was the textbook definition of all the guys they used to laugh at together? And sure, Bear was.. nice enough. Emphasis on was.. but he wasn’t Nikki’s.
Was she even still Nikki’s..?
“You like it? It’s a dark romance I’m writing.”
“Didn’t peg you for the incest type.”
Nikki rolls her eyes at that.
“What do you know about me?”
So cold and distant.. so nothing like herself.
“Nikki.. where is this coming from?”
“You’re so judgmental. You were berating Bear for no reason last night and now here you are pretending like you’re interested in my writing? You just want to judge my creativity because you’re a jealous bitch about something that happened one time.
How whipped do you have to be to be strung out over one fucking kiss. You seriously need to move on.”
For a moment she’d almost lost sight of the truth..
Niki wouldn’t say that to her. Nikki wouldn’t do this.
But it still hurt.. hearing those words come out of her mouth in her voice? It twisted her guts.. and made her feel so fucking pathetic.
Suddenly Nikki’s hand dove into the pockets of her uniform work shirt, pulling out a stack of old Polaroids, shoving them at Sarah.
“You don’t.. Nikki you don’t mean tha—“
I don’t need you in my life.
I don’t need anything distracting me from my sweet perfect Bear.
Go find someone else to make you feel better about yourself. I’m done.”
Without warning Nikki stormed off, leaving Sarah broken-hearted in the storage closet surrounded by an array of unorganized boxes and untouched bubble wrapping.
Tears welled in her eyes as she sifted through the pictures.
Ice cream at the park, Nikki drawing a sharpie mustache on a sleeping Sarah’s upper lip.
The first picture they ever took at their job..
Some of them even went back to highschool.. their senior prank, Nikki at the crystal shop on their grand annual sale.
She continued to sift through the archives of her life with Nikki that had just been so easily shoved back in her face. Till her movements halted when she felt something taped on the back of the polaroid.
It felt like a piece of scrap paper ripped off something. The parts of things you usually threw away after you’d tidied your mess.
She quickly turned the photo around, eyes widening with shock.. and yet, clarity.
There was a scrap of paper taped to the back of the photo, bold red and white font that read “one wish willow.” It was underneath one of Nikki’s personal favorite photos of them..
Sarah was in the middle of painting. It was nothing special in the moment. But to her? To her it was their future.. clearly defined in one single moment to be captured in a small square frame
Her heart skipped a beat. There wasn’t much time to waste. Who knows how much longer Nikki had left before she hurt herself again or god forbid someone else. Truthfully they had no idea what she was capable of. And Bears just moving through life ignoring it. All of it. Because to him, Nikki’s autonomy was optional.
She quickly descended to the floor, searching as fast as her fingers could type to figure out anything and everything there was to know about this.
She surfed through search results. What is a one wish willow?
Is one wish willow it real?
Places that sell one wish willows near me?
Which is what lead her to the metaphysical shop just down the road. She left urgently without even clocking out.
She didn’t have time to spend.
And it was in her hands. She was going to spend every second of it trying to save Nikki Freeman.
[few minutes later, in the metaphysical shop]
The air was remnant of inscene and overpriced selenite. Crystals and tarot cards lined the wooden shelves, a woman dressed in a very earthy maximalist outfit with many flowing layers and jewelry pieces, was manning the front desk. She didn’t look up from her phone, giving a simple casual greeting and listing off the specials as if she was already eager to end her shift.
Sarah’s eyes scanned impatiently around the store, till they landed on the bright red display.
She reached to grab it, already making her way to the front counter when something caught her eye.
A wooden display with crystal necklaces and bracelets dripping from it like a chandelier of energy and color. All different shapes and cuts and chains. A conversation flashed through her mind, about a week before Nikki and Baron started dating, Nikki was torn up. Her favorite crystal necklace was lost to her sink drain and probably the pipes for all she knew.
She was grieving about it while she was at work that day before they went to the bar, and Bear had offered to drive her home.
She was talking about how her energy was off all day..
If only she’d paid more attention.
She slipped a necklace off of its display, the crystal citrine wrapped in a shining gold plated wire. The stone gleamed, dangling on a matching gold chain.
She had a book that collected dust on her shelf that was an infodump about crystals and their spiritual roots and meanings.
She read it front to back after borrowing the book from her school library, and never returned it, must’ve slipped her mind. But the information didn’t. Citrine was basically sunshine in a rock. It brought joy, healing..
Something Nikki was bound to need.
Another piece of jewelry also seemed to snatch her attention almost against her will. Like it was calling to her. Beckoning her.
“Ahh, Citrine and tigers eye. Good choice doll.
And a wish willow? Gift for your friend?”
The cashier said with a smirk. It wasn’t forced happiness, just casual conversation.
Nikki always used to love when Cashiers treated her like a person and not like a means to a raise or their next paycheck.
Sarah chuckled, the exhaustion in her tone betraying any notion of whimsy in her laughter.
Hey uhm, this is probably a stupid question but—
What can you tell me about this one wish willow..?”
The cashier raised an eyebrow conspiratorially before shrugging.
“Not much, just that you break the stick and get a wish. Why? You another unsatisfied customer ?”
“No no. Uhm.. my friend she’s..”
The cashiers tone changed from unamused to concerned. Asking as if she had inside knowledge to how these wishes affected people. As if she already knew what happened.
“She’s in danger. Someone made a wish about her and she’s just.. completely changed.
She’s been.. hurting herself.”
Theoretically, you could make a wish that frees her.”
“Absolutely. It might be your friends only chance.”
The cashier paused for a moment, before asking, hesitantly.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly happened.”
Sarah tensed. Because truthfully, she only understood fragments of the true story, paired with the retelling from Bear’s biased point of view.
“My friend. Bear, he made a wish.. he made a wish that my friend Nikki would love him.”
Sarah shook her head, a grim look on her face.
“She’s spoke to me before.. the real her. She’s been screaming for help and that piece of shits just been ignoring it and.. sorry— I don’t mean to dump this on you.”
“Hey no it’s fine, I’m the one who asked.
My advice? Free her first. And take two, she should get to decide how she wants this to end.
She may want both of you to forget everything..
Personally, I’d wanna kill the bastard.”
Sarah nodded, sifting through her bag, then stomping lightly in frustration, arms falling at her sides like they were defeated in combat.
“I only have enough for one.”
“Well here, this one’s on the house.”
The cashier reached over the shelf, grabbing one of the small oblong triangular boxes and sticks it in the disposable bag with the rest of Sarah’s purchased items.
“For your friend. From one woman to another.
Give her her choices back.”
Sarah nodded, taking the bag with amplified conviction and exiting through the front, hearing the cashier call out—
[Meanwhile, Bears house.]
Nikki was strewn across Bears lap. Something romantic was playing on the TV, and there was a platter of different fruits balanced on her thighs that she lazily popped into her mouth, occasionally feeding some to Bear as well.
She was wearing something she would’ve very well hated, and a tight ponytail that was starting to give her a migraine.
It was domestic bliss. It was Baron Bailey’s honeymoon projection of Nikki.
She was obeying. She was exactly what he wanted her to be.
Bear smiled down when their gaze met, one hand gently twirling her ponytail in his hand, a warm contented smile on his face.
“How’s that fruit Freaky Nikki?”
Nikki giggled with a vomit inducing sweetness.
“So yummy baby, but I know something that would taste so much sweeter~”
She replied with a playful seductive tone, one hand trailing gently up his thigh.
There were little cuts coating her fingers, cracks and scrapes.. Bear noticed when he glanced down. He just sighed, closing his eyes and tilting his head back. Letting her hands trail upward and soaking in each bit of electrifying tension.
“And what’s that, beautiful?”
Till he couldn’t feel it anymore.
His eyes were still shut, but squeezed in confusion.
Just then, Nikki threw herself off of him. Causing bears eyes to shoot open in shock.
She looked at her hands..
Tears welling in her eyes.
her head, her hands, her face her legs her stomach..
even places she once thought only belonged to her.
She looked up at him. Eyes wide with awareness. Then.. rage.
She stood up, eyes scanning the room like a feral animal. Searching for something, anything.
“Nikki.. what’s the matter with you?”
Her eyes locked on the glass fruit platter that had fallen off of her she when she launched off the couch. The fruits once neatly arranged by color now splattered on the carpet. She reached for it, giving Bear no time to run away as she ran for him, breaking the dish over his head with such force that it caused him to stumble and fall off the couch onto the ground when it shattered. He regained awareness in his daze, crawling away to the best of his abilities, trying scramble to his feet as best he could with the fursious woman still close behind.
“Nikki stop — STOP— NIKKI!!”
She plunged her shoe into his side, causing him to fall and yelp in pain. He began to weep in terror, crying like a bitch as Nikki stepped and kicked and beat the shit out of him. Over.. and over.. and over..
Till she was sure he wouldn’t move. Till he was crying on the ground, a puddle of blood collecting in his mouth and spilling out of his noes.
She stopped, chest heaving in exhaustion. Adrenaline still riddling her body.
She began to walk towards the kitchen.
He barely managed to call out, his voice pathetically weak.
“Nikki what are you doing..?!”
His heart fell when he heard the sound of kitchen utensils being scrambled through and around.
But the real terror came when the noises stopped.
He gripped at the floor, desperate, grabbing the carpet and barely dragging himself to the front door.
Footsteps followed behind him, not running. Stalking.
Another pitiful whimper as she kicked him over with her foot, she wanted him to look at her. She wanted to see horror in his eyes..
the life leave his eyes when she stripped his body of all it’s contents and left him feeling as disgusted an empty as her and finally killed him.
He pleaded, watching her settle atop of him.
“Please.. please don’t do this- ple— “
his voice broke into a shriek as a sharp pain surged in his chest. Forceful and unrelenting..
Just like him every night he was inside her.
She twisted the knife, watching him writhe under her. Eyes blown, breathing heavy..
Her breath quickened as the act electrified her.. finally.
Nikki let out of a guttural scream plunging the knife back into his chest with the promise of revenge and the sincerity of her pain..
And again she ripped it out.
Again she dove it into his body.
His body that ruined hers.
Spit splattered on his face, tears coated hers.
And even as blood poured from his mouth and puddled on the floor. She continued, a sob that tore out of her throat and through the air. She’s been screaming inside for months..
Finally her voice was her own.
And all she could do.. was cry.
It wasn’t enough for her. She sunk the knife into his lifeless face. Blade forcing through the bone and flesh with a strength that must've been raw adrenaline.
She couldn’t look at his face anymore. Couldn’t exist on the same planet as it..
So she destroyed it. Till his face was nothing more than unrecognizable meat and teeth where an identity should’ve been..
She sunk the blade into the pile till his face was minced and there was nothing left to hurt.
The knife slipped from her shaky hands, and Nikki breathed, staring down at bears body.
He looked exactly how she felt.
She didn’t notice the pool of saliva building her mouth, she couldn’t help but stare in shock.
Symptoms didn’t register in her body, she didn’t feel the vomit till it was already spraying out of her mouth.
Tears fell silently from her eyes for a moment.. Everything was quiet.
And even though there was no sound.. it somehow became even more silent.
Till the knob twisted and the door clicked open. It was so silent in the room she could hear each and every gear in the doors mechanism churning.
Her head didn’t lift.. not yet. But her heartbeat quickened.
Sarah stepped into the room, sound caught in her throat as whatever she was about to say was stolen from her. And nothing but shocked choked noises were able to escape her mouth.
Nikki remained there, hands trembling but her body unmoving. She wasn’t even blinking. It was like she still hadn’t registered moving her body at will again yet. It’d been so long since she could.. every horrible.. horrible trauma she had to endure. Every kiss every touch. She could finally move.
And yet, she was still paralyzed.
Sarah tentatively stepped closer, approaching Nikki like one would a terrified wounded animal. One hand raised, but it didn’t know whether to be comfort or defense. It settled for somewhere in between.
Nikki finally looked up at Sarah.
Before she even answered the question Sarah could tell. Her eyes were shot.. she wasn’t pushing through the fatigue to keep up Bear’s fetish, she was fighting exhaustion to stay upright. Because the thought of her passing out or falling over now terrified her. She hadn’t eaten more than a few bites of fruit, rarely slept, definitely hadn’t drank water.. then there was all the tedious hygiene tasks the using the bathroom the washing her face.
She only “fixed herself up” if it was to go somewhere she had to look presentable.
Or when Bear needed to look at her.
Her gaze stayed locked on Sarah’s.. she was finally here. Finally able. Finally..
Was all she could say. All she could muster in that moment..
the vomit was beginning to dry and crust against her chin.
The reality of what happened was beginning to dawn on her slow and heavy.
Not only what just happened..
All of what happened. The wish. Her body. Him. The total loss of control the horror— all of it was hurdling towards her all at once.
She looked down at Bear.. it didn’t look as though her eyes could get any wider. Her appearance more mortified.. and yet, it did.
She trembled, falling off of Bear’s lifeless corpse like he was corrosive and highly dangerous to the skin, using her arms and legs to push herself backwards. She just needed him away.. she needed to get away from him.
Sarah quickly reached out to catch her as Nikki continued to shove herself further back, only finally stopping when she felt Sarah touch her. Her gaze never leaving the corpse as devastated sobs rattled her body.
Sobs turned into screaming.. crying..
Sarah pulled her in, holding her head against her shoulder and further shielding her from the sight.
“It’s not your fault Nikki.”
Nikki corrected, nodding her head as if confirming what she was going to say.
“I killed him- I wanted to—“
Sarah’s comfort was steady.. and unmoving..
She didn’t have any expectations for what was going to happen when she broke the wish. When Nikki was free.
But this was definitely up there on the list.
“You’re were right to be angry.”
She whispered. She wasn’t relaxed. She wasn’t even calming down.. but she was grounding. And that didn’t mean she would feel better or even feel good. But Sarah came back for her. She was holding her in her arms like nothing had changed. Like she didn’t just stab her former best friends face into churned meat..
She was holding her like what happened didn’t change the way she felt about her. Like she still meant to her everything she did before.
Nikki could hear Sarah’s heart beat faster when her arms wrapped around her middle. And even amidst all the ruin and rubble she let out something that might’ve been a chuckle..
Sarah never did get used to it. Nikki.. and her touch.
Part of Nikki hoped she never would.
She murmured. Silent tears still falling from her eyes..
“I’m.. I’m never going to be able to live.. without seeing something that reminds me of him.
I’m never going to be me again..”
“It doesn’t have to be like that.”
Sarah finally chimed in.. reaching for the bag, the sudden movement making Nikki tense. Because it was just the slightest bit colder without that arm around her.. it reminded her way too much of the things she said and did. The way the wish had programmed her to think..
every night without him is so cold..
She raised her head slowly, focusing on the box balanced between Sarah's fingers.
Was that what she thought it was..?
“You can reverse Bear's wish.
You can.. you can make it so none of this ever happened.”
Nikki thought about that, eyes locked on the box..
she could forget. It wouldn’t hurt.. they would leave and never come back.. live together while Sarah went to college. Everything they ever planned.
Everything she wanted to be. She could be.
“If we give him the chance how do we know he won’t just make the same wish again ?”
Nikki sighed, resting her head back on Sarah’s chest. She was in so much pain.. felt her exhaustion so bone deep her marrow was crying for rest.
You can wish he was never born too.”
“That’s two wishes babe.”
Nikki hummed, a soft casual gesture of forgiveness.
I don’t want to lose another part of myself to him.
No more magic changing me..”
As much as it pained Sarah.. she understood. And either way, It was Nikki’s choice.
“You can cry if you need to Nikki”
Nikki shook her head gently.
Sarah pressed a kiss to her head, bringing Nikki closer to her till she was cradled in her lap. The box was still in Nikki’s hands as she contemplated her one choice..
Had Bear given this to her before all this.. she might’ve used it for something jovial and happy.. like her writing.
Something that might fulfill her.
Even make her dreams come true..
She sighed, both hands on either side of the wishing stick..
In control. And never to be puppeteered again.
“I wish that I am never charged or even suspected for the murder of Baron Bailey by law or by anyone.
Except.. Sarah. And anyone else who I decided to tell..”
[Hours later, Sarah’s house]
Nikki was wrapped in a towel on Sarah’s bed. This was the first time she’s showered in months on her own accord. She was too weak to stand more than a couple of minutes, she ended up sitting in the shower as the water cascaded across her skin. Sarah, inevitably, came to assist. Washing Nikki’s hair with careful hands.
The clothes she was wearing would be burned.
Maybe even as early as tomorrow morning.. she never wanted to see them again.
Sarah padded into the room quietly, a plate of food balanced in her hand.
“I brought you a sandwich.”
Nikki looked up. She hadn’t gotten to sleep yet. Her stomach was clawing at itself with hunger, and when she told Sarah she was hungry after Nikki was situated in the shower she was immediately at work in the kitchen cooking her a grilled cheese.
Sarah gave a tired smile, nodding as she crawled onto the bed and settled next to Nikki.
Nikki gave a nod, taking a bite of the sandwich. Her body had become so acclimated to hunger that even as starved as she felt her appetite was shot, and it was difficult for her to eat.
“Make sure you drink some of your water on the counter.”
Sarah gave her a gentle reminder, her tone laced with worry.
“You don’t need to fuss over me.”
“You are, you always do.”
Nikki insisted, but there was no trace of genuine frustration in her tone.
You’re handling it fine and I’m all over you—“
Nikki set the barely eaten sandwich down on it’s plate, scooting closer to Sarah on the bed, her hand automatically finding its way to hers. She was disgusted.. with every inch of herself. The closer she came Sarah shifted to hold her, her hands brushing through her hair..
And despite how much she didn’t want to.. despite how utterly exhausted of it she was.. she cried again.
Tears coated Sarah’s chest as Nikki whimpered—
“That doesn’t make it better.”
Sarah’s jaw tightened. Tears now forming in her own eyes..
“I know. I.. I don’t know if I can make it better.
But I’m not going anywhere.”
Eventually Nikki was able to finish a bit more of the sandwich, and some of the water as well. Though there was still a lot left, obviously Sarah didn’t push her to finish it all.
That night, Nikki was close. Nuzzled up against Sarah. They were cuddling. No longer making a flowery display like teenagers having their first kiss. There wasn’t any flirtation or any beckoning.. it wasn’t to rise hearts, Nikki simply needed it.
Needed the comfort because if Sarah wasn’t touching her she’d feel endlessly trapped in her body.. and stuck in her head.
That however didn’t make it any less an act of love.
She was tucked against Sarah’s chest, now in one of Sarah’s shirts and a pair of her shorts as opposed to the dampened towel. It was silent, nobody was forcing conversation that didn’t come.
They just lingered in the sounds of each others breaths.. Nikki was clinging shamelessly, and Sarah embraced it.
In the stretching silence, Nikki looked up. And Sarah looked down.
Their eyes met, a soft smile between the shared in secret between the both of them.
Nikki had a few guesses.. but she wanted to know exactly.
“I.. I wished for you to be free from Bear’s wish.
I wanted you to have the choice.. instead of forcing you to forget.”
Nikki’s eyes shut and her shoulders dropped like a weight had been lifted off of her..
“You could’ve wished for a car..”
Sarah groaned, then giggled, her laughter laced with remorse, then groaned even harder like she was guilty for finding it funny.
“I’m not trading you for a car.”
“Sorry! That was the last one I’m done..
Just.. wanna feel something other than him.”
she heard Sarah murmur something about ‘therapy’ when they were on their way home. She had a feeling she’d have plenty of time to process.. feel her feelings. And all the hard days she knew were coming.
She finally had her body back. She didn’t want to wallow right now.. she just wanted comfort.. for once. Couldn’t she wait to open the box later ?
Was it so wrong that she wanted to feel something better?
Sarah pressed one kiss to her forehead, then her mouth..
And that lasted long. Nikki didn’t open her eyes.. she left them shut even after the tender declaration of love gently fizzled out..
Sarah felt her anxiety growing.. how desperately she wanted to say everything she was feeling. And yet she knew it probably wasn’t the time.
Fortunately for Sarah, the choice wasn’t only hers to make.
Nikki said it before Sarah had finished weighing weather her saying that right now would comfort Nikki or make her feel worse..
It must’ve felt kinda shitty that we almost made it official then it.. looked like I left you in the dust.”
Nikki was sitting up now, gradually rising herself on the bed. And Sarah followed suit just as quick if not quicker.
Sarah reach out to hold her face, Nikki flinched. She never used to do that. So Sarah slowed down, letting Nikki’s hand come up to one of hers, and gently guide it towards her scaring cheeks..
“Bear is a fucking rapist. He took your choices away and ruined your life.
I know you.. I knew something was wrong with you the minute you two started like.. super fucking dating.
He held you captive.. in your own body Nikki.
Whatever miscommunication could’ve happened before I knew that doesn’t matter.”
Nikki leaned in, kissing her tenderly.. seeking safety and sureness in Sarah that she couldn’t yet find in herself..
“I know.. but I wanted to be yours.”
She reached out to hold Sarah’s hands, lowering them from her face and squeezing them gently in her own.
“You were always mine Nikki.”
“You have a beautiful soul Sarah Harper.”
“Yours is prettier Nikki Freeman.”
Nikki’s head fell back and she groaned in annoyance. Sarah had officially ruined the moment.
“You know how much I hate fucking self depreciating compliments—!”
Sarah laughed softly, thumb gently stroking Nikki’s hand. Their foreheads pressed up against each others.
“yeah because I know it makes you laugh when I say shit we both know it’s stupid.”
“Ohhh so you’re being maliciously obtuse.”
“Playfully, maliciously obtuse. To make my best friend smile.”
Nikki corrected, and Sarah’s heart skipped a beat.
“My talented girlfriend who doesn’t need anyone else to put themselves down to make her shine brighter because her light transcends on its own—“
“Okay Shakespeare Jesus Christ.”
“I’m getting chastised by a writer for using colorful language?”
“You’re getting chastised by me for being annoying on purpose.”
“Officer my girlfriend beats me—!!”
They both howled in laughter, thriving in the bliss they both finally got to have. Their long deserved love.
“You didn’t forget about me.”
Nikki whispered amongst the echoing laughter.
oh my gosh I’m SOO HAPPY!! I’ve been stumped on how long I wanted the fan fiction to be, how many chapters, and I’ve honestly doubted my writing skills and my capacity to tell a good story and accurate characterization and there were times I felt like everything I made was lowkey ass. I even played around with the idea of Nikki saying something like “I love you more than anyone in the world” to Sarah at the end and like reveal that it was all another wish but I like my happy ending and it wouldn’t have made sense.
I’m very happy with my work after I made the necessary revisions and adjustments. And honestly, writing this story has given me a new passion for story writing beyond the usual super long roleplays I normally do, and introduced me to a talent I didn’t know I had and literacy I didn’t know I was capable of.
THIS IS NOT THE END FOR NIKKI AND SARAH BTW !!
I’ll totally be writing more fics for this au with Nikki in therapy and on her recovery journey. She’s going to learn how to trust herself again, and grapple with the fact her life may never be normal. I also plan on writing some nightmares about Bear, flashbacks, whatever the people wanna see
I WILL BE TAKING REQUESTS!!
So if there’s anything you guys want to see with my obsession au or any other ideas just lemme know. I may even start doing X readers but I’m not a hundo on that cuz idk if it’ll be any good. More to come I guess !!
Anyways, PLEASE share your thoughts, I love reading comments and reviving DMs
Hope you guys enjoyed, toodles !!
