“Stop comparing where you’re at with where everyone else is. It doesn’t move you farther ahead, improve your situation, or help you find peace. It just feeds your shame, fuels your feelings of inadequacy, and ultimately, it keeps you stuck. The reality is that there is no one correct path in life. Everyone has their own unique journey.”
— Daniell Koepke
Logo made by my talented graphic designer friend, Isamar. Now time to work on a website. I haven’t posted here in so long and it was disheartening to read my last post. I’m proud and happy with my photography and I need to jumpstart back into it. Just gotta keep shooting 📸
With very little engagement happening on my photography instagram from my followers, which include friends and family, I decided to archive all photos on there. Basically a blank page now. It happened just out of the blue I was taking images down one by one. I love photography, but not sure how if posting on Instagram is something I'll be doing as much. It's the best social media platform for exposure and I have been hired from what people see on there too. It's been only a day and sadly I don't think people noticed. One of these days I know I will post everything back up or maybe only a few and get back to posting again.
Ironically, yesterday marked 9 years of getting my first DSLR
An intimate relationship does not banish loneliness. Only when we are comfortable with who we are can we truly function in a healthy way.

True love is not about wanting. Wanting is lined with ownership and control. To love means to meet, to share, to sharpen, and to walk besides. Want moments. Want shared experiences. Want the high notes. Want the feeling of building something meaningful and lasting with someone. But do not want him or her. When you tell yourself you want someone, they are no longer a person.
stuck
A stable job with benefits and a recent raise has been a blessing! Why do I feel stuck again? Why am I dredding to go to work again, when the people I see that come into my office are asking for help on the government's disability program because there's no other option for them? The irony.
It's a cycle. I like what I do, then I suddenly get existential and feel like I'm worth better and that I can be better, then I start looking for other jobs, then I'm satisfied and comfortable again. Seems like it happens every 3 months I get this way.

Mike: I'm the one who's sorry, by the way.
Fiona: Why?
Mike: That I'm not more interesting.
Fiona: You are.
Mike: I'm really not. [Chuckles] I hold down a job, I look after my family, care about telling the truth. I'm sorry those aren't selling points.

Hi everyone! This is an illustrated guide I made as part of my co-admining work at The Middle Eastern Feminist on Facebook! It will be published there shortly. The technique that is displayed here is a genuine one used in psychology - I forgot the name and couldn’t find it again so if you know about it, feel free to tell me! Some could say: “Yes but you can use that technique for instances of harassment other than Islamophobic attacks!”, and my reply is: Sure! Please do so, it also works for other “types” of harassment of a lone person in a public space!! However I’m focusing on protecting Muslims here, as they have been very specific targets lately, and as a French Middle Eastern woman, I wanted to try and do something to raise awareness on how to help when such things happen before our eyes - that way one cannot say they “didn’t know what to do”! I’d like to insist on two things: 1) Do not, in any way, interact with the attacker. You must absolutely ignore them and focus entirely on the person being attacked! 2) Please make sure to always respect the wishes of the person you’re helping: whether they want you to leave quickly afterwards, or not! If you’re in a hurry escort them to a place where someone else can take over - call one of their friends, or one of yours, of if they want to, the police. It all depends on how they feel! For my fellow French-speakers: I will translate it in French and post it on my page as soon as I can :) Please don’t hesitate to share this guide as it could push a lot of people to overcome bystander syndrome!! Lots of love and stay safe! PS: I you repost this cartoon of mine on twitter or instagram, please add me in the post so I can see it, with @itsmaeril :)
This is a great strategy for all types of harassment, please share!!!
I don’t usually call for a Signal Boost, but FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, SIGNAL BOOST THE HELL OUT OF THIS POST!!!!
How to Cope with Worrying
1. Confront your fears: There’s often a fear of the unknown, and trying to define that fear can help you to overcome it. By facing whatever it is, you may find you know what to do about the situation. You can begin to think about how you might cope with it, what you can do, and who might help you, if necessary.
2. Talk it over: Discussing things with others can help to throw up a possible course of action or solution, which you wouldn’t have been able to formulate on your own.
3. Write a list: Try writing a list of what’s troubling you. Use statements, rather than questions. Instead of, ‘What will happen if I don’t get there on time?’ say, ‘I am worried that I won’t get there on time’. This focuses on precisely what the fear is. Another constructive way to put your fears into perspective is to try writing down the reasons why something bad might not happen. This may help you to see more realistically which situations are worthy of worry and which are not.
4. Take action: There is often something you can do about a situation you feel anxious about. Consider each preoccupying thought, one by one, and then decide whether there is something that could be done
5. Try to establish control: Confine your problems to a certain time and place. For this to work, it’s important to be strict, and not to let them intrude on your thoughts at other times. It might be helpful to visualise a box to place them in, which you may open at a later date or time. Some people set aside something like 30 minutes a day for worrying, taking the phrase ‘I’ll worry about it later’ literally.
6. Relaxation and visualisation: Relaxation exercises often focus on replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. This could involve imagining yourself in a pleasant setting, such as a beach, a nice room or a garden. You could visualise your worries as physical objects that can be discarded, such as stones or rocks you could heave into the distance.
7. Physical activity: Exercise is excellent because it can change the focus from your mind to your body. It relieves tension and uses up adrenalin.
8. Medication: If extreme worrying turns into a state of continuous anxiety, your doctor may prescribe antidepressants or minor tranquillisers. These should only be used for the briefest possible time, because they may have side effects and can be addictive. They can do nothing to change the root cause of your problem, but they can tide you over the worst of a crisis until a different form of help, such as counselling or psychotherapy, can be put in place.

Check-In
I hope my friends are doing well. I miss them.
I wonder what my family thinks of me. I'm not around as much as I used to be. My brother and his family will no longer be living in San Diego since he got his new orders to be back in Virginia. Honestly, I am already dreading the day they leave. Family has been feeling absolutely complete and whole and once they go back to the east coast I already know that the dynamics will change in the house.
Last week my transmission blew out. I already knew my car was old and needed a few repairs, but I just did an oil change on it two days before it went out. Had it towed to the shop, paid the $40 for the towing fee and I know it's going cost more $$$, plus new tires I need and registration fee. In the meantime, I'm using my mom's car. I feel restricted since it is not my car and I was told to use it for work. It makes me feel like a child and I drove around a lot. Then, just last night, when I was at Rylee's place in Crown Point the plates for my mom's car got stolen! That was definitley not what I needed, especially what happened with my car. Called the cops and me and my dad are in the process of getting it taken cared of.
I feel like a fraud and a hypocrite. I'm an entirely different person when I lose control.I want to be better.
My bosses at work have been praising me on the work I've been doing for the company. Telling me that they love how detailed, patient, caring, methodical with my work and with the clients. I have been responsbile for training the new hires, they use my files as examples to how things should be done, and they appreciate how I've been able to continue on despite all the piles of work that was placed on me when I first got promoted as a case manager. The owner and one of the managers have told me that they see opportunities for me beyond being a case manager within the company; they see great things in me and see growth. I am pleased, yet scared for these opportunities. I'm glad they value me so much (ehem..raise!) and I am very curious as to what they mean by having me grow within the company. The only thing would be some sort of management position, which I am not sure I am ready for. The owner has been opening up new branches out of state, so perhaps opportunities to transfer and start a new branch(?) Eh who knows.
11/9/2016 will truly be a historic day. I pray and hope for peace. May we all be united and seek change for ourselves and for this world. There are so many people scared of how they will live their lives - who they can marry, healthcare, work, public assistance.....on and on. Ugh the environment!!! Will I be invisible? Will I struggle? Let there be peace and hope
