It hasn’t all been fun and games in Los Angeles. The struggle is real.
JFVEDA No. 27 — Trejo's Tacos is Now OPEN at Farmers Market
After running a few errands and having some beers at 326, I stopped by the newly opened Trejo's Tacos in LA's Farmers Market. Pretty good! Well done, Danny!
JFVEDA No. 25 — Bad Customer Service
After a bad experience at an Upper Marlboro, Md., restaurant, a woman wrote a critical Yelp review — and you won’t believe how the owner responded! Churlish!
JFVEDA No. 23 — A Trip Through Amoeba Music
Take a tour through Los Angeles’ iconic (and indiependent!) music, movie, and pop culture emporium.
The reality is, joy can be found within the pain. I’m living example of that these days.
The saying, “No one can steal my joy unless I give it away”, is my anthem and I’m singing it, humming it, making love to it every day.
“Bring me more joy”, is what I ask the Universe.
“I’ve got lots of room” when the Universe asks me how much.
Allowing my love to be felt and experience and the smiles just keep coming, I tell ya! The smiles just keep coming.
Then when that joy spills out from my daughters while walking through the supermarket today, I say, “look at goddess, just look at goddess shining out and through them.”
It’s a beautiful thing.

With the Fire on High (2019)
Ever since she got pregnant freshman year, Emoni Santiago’s life has been about making the tough decisions—doing what has to be done for her daughter and her abuela. The one place she can let all that go is in the kitchen, where she adds a little something magical to everything she cooks, turning her food into straight-up goodness.
Even though she dreams of working as a chef after she graduates, Emoni knows that it’s not worth her time to pursue the impossible. Yet despite the rules she thinks she has to play by, once Emoni starts cooking, her only choice is to let her talent break free.

Tried hitting up In-N-Out on Easter, but my plans were thwarted!
The first of (hopefully) many videos chronicling my life in Los Angeles.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp”: Large Laughs in Small-Stakes Superhero Sequel
If you know me, you know that I’m obsessed with all most things Marvel. And if you know that, then you know that my favorite Marvel film is Ant-Man.
Yes, I know. Yes, yes, I know, I know. We had the absolutely glorious Black Panther earlier this year — how could that not be my favorite?
Hey, I love T’Challa, Nakia, Shuri, Okoye, and the rest of the family. And Black Pantheris most definitely in…

Short Film: “Skintight” — Written and Directed by Ciara Boniface

A few weeks ago, I got wind of Skintight, a horror short written and directed by Ciara Boniface, a 20-year-old student filmmaker at the University of North Texas. Boniface’s story is unique in that she was the winner, out of more than 1,200 aspiring filmmakers, of Ava DuVernay‘s A Wrinkle in Time Visionary Filmmaker Contestearlier this year. Part of the award: $100,000…

Oscar-Winning Screenwriter Diablo Cody Likes My Name | #JFXL
Earlier tonight, I had the good fortune to meet two screenwriters I absolutely adore: Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno, Jennifer’s Body, Ricki and the Flash and the recently released Tully, and Aline Brosh McKenna, writer of The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses and co-creator of the hit CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
It was at a Writers on Writingevent sponsored by and held…
