Bookseller Tales #6
Not sure what to call this little segment yet, but these will be some short stories/profiles of some wonderful and not so wonderful people Iâve encountered so far behind register that have left some kind of impression on me. Thankfully the experience has been pretty positive.
1. A man who, when asked if he would like to donate to our holiday bookdrive, not only said âyesâ, but when asked what price book (between $3.99-$10) he told me to pick for him. I picked out a $4.99 for him because I did not want to take advantage of him, since he was already being so generous by donating.
2. A woman my age whoâs eyes lit up when I told her about the new illustrated version of Harry Potter and The Sorcererâs Stone, and excitedly exclaimed that she will definitely be coming back for it.
3. A old woman who huffed and rudely walked away, leaving all the lego boxes she was going to purchase at my register after I politely told her that we do not allow coupons to be used on lego items. This coupon would have only taken 25% off one of those boxes anyways.
4. A mother with two young boys and a little baby. At first I felt pity, because the boys were being such a handful and kept on grabbing a bunch of things that the woman had no intention of buying and she had to keep handing them to me for me to put back, but then it brought a smile to my face when the boys put a small toy on my register and happily said âThis is for the baby!â
5. An aunt who bought a $100 giftcard for her nephew in college for him to use for textbooks and for personal use. Thatâs an awesome and loving aunt right there.
6. A girl who I briefly bonded with over Ellen DeGeneresâ new book Home. I told her I bought it for my mom for Christmas, turns out she was doing the exact same thing.
7. A dad who saw the $50 figurine of Boba Fett behind the counter, and still decided to purchase it for his young son as a Christmas present because he knew it was his favorite Star Wars character and that heâd love it.
8. A mother and daughter who liked me because I talk to myself and objects, and I liked them for liking that about me.
Iâm grateful that even around the holidays, the customers have been so patient with me when I need to call for assistance. Iâm still learning things and always feel bad for having to make them wait but theyâve all been great so far.
