Come down to Penn’s Landing this Memorial Day Weekend and join the FREE Delaware River Maritime Day celebration! Including: Come learn what this city inside a city does on the river. The day will be filled with exhibits, demonstrations, vendors, and fun for all ages. Admission is FREE! 12-5PM FREE tours of the SUNY Maritime College’s training ship the Empire State VI and the dredger boat, The McFarland Competitive boat races, and visits by real working local tugboats. 2-3:30PM FREE swan and Kayak rides, last person must be in line by 3:00PM Unveiling of the Pennsylvania Nautical School and Pennsylvania Maritime Academy’s memorial plaque, in front of the Seaport at Walnut Plaza. The Pennsylvania Nautical school, established in 1889 by the Pennsylvania Assembly, was the first nautical school in the state of PA, located at the Port of Philadelphia aboard the 882 ton sailing ship USS Saratoga. The Independence Seaport Museum has the items from the school on display for the public to view.
