So after Musk’s hostile takeover of USAID over the weekend, all employees were apparently locked out of their accounts and told not to report to work today (2/3/25). I guess Trump approved the shutdown of the agency, but this isn’t something he should be able to do. Musk doesn’t have the security clearance to be doing this. Rubio announced he’s the acting director of USAID, which will now operate under the State Department. He has a much more optimistic outlook that the agency will continue some of its relief efforts, as opposed to Musk who wants to shut it down completely.

“‘That would be illegal. He cannot unilaterally close a federal agency. Another assault on the constitution,” Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, wrote on social media over the weekend of the administration’s reported plans to shutter U.S.A.I.D.” If it’s illegal, MAYBE YOU SHOULD ARREST HIS ASS. Surely there’s enough evidence to get a judge to sign a warrant! At least look like you’re doing something to combat this!

That was at least 38% of the total such contributions recorded by the U.N.” UN humanitarian contributions have fallen short of their targets for years now, but the US has consistently contributed the majority of funding, along with the EU. Over half of those funds come from USAID, which operates on less than 1% of the federal budget! Gutting the agency won’t have a noticeable effect on the federal budget! But it will have an effect on countless lives worldwide.

Providing humanitarian aid is one of the easiest ways to exert influence in foreign nations. It’s a cheap way for a nation as rich as the US to gain power and goodwill. And, most importantly, it helps people! It is a good use of tax dollars! It’s not surprising that a greedy idiot like Musk doesn’t understand why it’s absolutely worth it for a country to earmark money for foreign aid. He could single-handedly solve world hunger or the housing crisis in this country and he wouldn’t even feel the impact. Yet he continues to steal from the poor and vulnerable and destroy companies and systems that did just fine before he came along.
