I recently decided to start teaching myself Swahili, which is the most widely spoken language in East Africa. As I have been learning the language I have found myself wondering why Swahili is not more widely spoken in Uganda.

One farmer and two traders give some insights into the nature of the banana/matooke trade in Mbarara, Uganda.
It is the lack of literature on the subject of Ugandan English that motivated Bernard Sabiti to write on the history and nature of this variety of English. The result of Sabiti's work is the little book "Uglish: A dictionary of Ugandan English".
Random shots of people walking the streets of Kampala on a busy weekday afternoon.
Mbarara Municipality is the largest urban centre in southern and Western Uganda and 4th largest town in Uganda.
This short video is a basic comparison of what the town looked like in 1961 and 2015.
The 1961 footage is from a documentary called Gentle Winds of Change, made by an American academic visiting Ankole (the region where Mbarara is located) between 1959 and 1961.
Short video I made of my experiences with digital TV (digital migration).
A short video I made a while back about banana/matooke farming and value addition in Mbarara district in south-western Uganda.
Dropped by the Uganda Museum on one of those unplanned visits one Sunday morning recently. Though there wasn't really that much that had changed about the place since I was last there some years back I felt it was a morning well spent.
Shot this a while back while I was traveling through Mbarara. These are scenes from a Matooke (Banana) market in Ruti, a small town on the southern fringes of Mbarara municipality in Southern Uganda. Mbarara is a major source of bananas/plantain/matooke which is the staple food for most people in Western, Southern and Central Uganda.
Took my recently acquired Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i) out on the town one Saturday night with the intention of practicing shooting video at night with only the surrounding lights for illumination. After tweaking ISO and aperture settings for nearly 2 hours I came up with something I thought was alright. This proved that the kit lens is not as useless at night time filming as some reviews had led me to believe. With more practice I could probably come up with something almost decent.
A view of the the "town" part of Luzira, a suburb to the south-east of Kampala.
A few randomly chosen photos taken from different parts of Kampala
