This is a very painful scene. Exactly what a child victim of parental sexual abuse would be experiencing. I’ve worked in a mental health agency for about two years for an agency through the County of Los Angeles. It’s so heart-wrenching! This scene and the appearances of the gecko scenes through his adult life through recovery brought back his horrific past and that was how he internalized it by thinking he could crawl into it so he can hide or mask the pain from that experience. But it’s also heart warming that he was able to finally open up to his best friend, which was the start of the road to recovery.
