Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

The new Call of Duty came out recently, Call of Duty Black Ops 3, and I couldn’t be more excited. This is the first Call of Duty that I’ve gotten since my senior year of high school. The past few have been very disappointing from what I’ve heard so I’m glad I didn’t get them. But, the new one has been great so far. I thought Treyarch did a great job preparing for this game too. Their commercials were great. They even included Marshawn Lynch in the commercials and the gameplay. I mean c’mon, Marshawn Lynch is in the Call of Duty campaign! How cool is that?! I’m sure this helped grab the attention of a lot of people, not just Call of Duty fans. Every aspect of the game so far has been awesome. The campaign has a great story, the online multiplayer is great, and one of their best game modes, Nazi Zombies, has made a return and it is phenomenal. What Treyarch did was genius. They brought back one of the old Zombies maps to appeal to fans that have been playing for years. The map is originally in Call of Duty: World at War, which came out about 5 years ago. This was my favorite Zombies map, and when I heard they were brining it back, I made the decision to buy the game. Treyarch’s idea to bring this back was an amazing idea, and I’m sure this helped them market the game to old and new fans alike. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is one of my favorite Call of Duty games in a long time. Treyarch did an awesome job, and I’ll be sure to buy their games in the future.

Daily Fantasy

Is anyone else sick of all those FanDuel and Draft Kings commercials? I’d love to see their advertising budget. I’m not sure how much they spend, but they’re definitely overspending on television and computer ads. I understand they need to get their name out there more, but it’s getting kind of ridiculous. Whenever I’m watching a football game, I must see a commercial for these one-day fantasy sites at least 7 in a span of 3 hours. Trust me, I am one of the biggest fantasy football fans there is, but all of these commercials are making me not want to try these sites. I’d rather just stick to traditional fantasy football through ESPN.

Also, it recently came out that Draft Kings might be getting in trouble for insider trading. Now, not only do I have to be bombarded by these annoying commercials, but they also make me think of the scandal. Instead of the commercials having a positive impact on my thoughts of the companies, they are making me think of the illegal activities Draft Kings’ employees are partaking in. If I were in charge of advertising or marketing for either of these companies, I would tone down the commercials a bit. Also, for Draft Kings, they need to sort out this scandal and get some positive publicity out there to save their reputation. I think these companies can continue to be extremely successful. They have changed the way that fantasy sports are played; I just think they need some tweaks to their marketing plan. Either way, in the next 10 minutes, you will probably see another commercial for Fan Duel.

LinkedIn

Why is LinkedIn not being promoted harder online, on television and on college campuses? As a college student hoping to get a job after I graduate, LinkedIn is a very beneficial tool for me to use. It can help me network with people I know, and even get be connected to people I don’t. The funny thing is, I just made a LinkedIn profile 10 minutes before starting this post. My initial experience with it thus far is that it is not extremely user friendly. I had a little bit of difficulty trying to set up my profile. But, I’m sure once I get all of my information on there and get connected with more people, I’ll get the hang of it. It seems like college students can benefit greatly from using LinkedIn. They can connect with possible future employers and employees, and might even be able to set up job interviews through the social media site. Also, our generation loves using social media websites, and this is just another one that lets us see what our friends and colleagues are doing in life.

           As far as LinkedIn from a marketing perspective, it seems like LinkedIn is not promoted enough around campus. They should incentivize schools to get their students onto their website through promotions on campus and in college towns. Not enough college students that I know are using this site. I think the awareness is there, but students do not understand the benefits that having a LinkedIn profile provides. The company should be promoting all of these benefits to us college students to make us want to use their site. But, once a student is on LinkedIn, I like the fact that you can search for companies. It’s not limited to just individuals, which is nice because people may not always know whom to contact for company information. I believe LinkedIn is a great social tool for anyone looking to network or look for a job, especially college students. But, I believe the company needs to promote its benefits more to get more students to use the site.

Twitter

Twitter can be a very positive tool for people and companies alike. It allows people to create a social network of followers, while also viewing tweets by those they are following. This means people can see what their friends are tweeting, while also seeing tweets from celebrities and athletes that they may follow. It’s beneficial for companies to use Twitter because it can reach out to customers build brand awareness through an easy-to-use website and application. It allows companies to see how involved their customers are on social media by viewing metrics such as number of follower, number of mentions, number of retweets, and number of favorites. Companies can also get involved on twitter by using it to promote their products, engage with customers, answer questions customers may have and even run sweepstakes and give rewards through twitter. I have personally used Twitter to engage with companies, and when these companies favorite or respond to my tweets, it lets me know that they care about their customers. Companies can build a positive reputation this way.

           But, Twitter can have a negative impact on people and companies too. I have heard countless stories of high school and college athletes being reprimanded for something they tweeted. I have even heard stories of athletes losing scholarships or getting kicked off of their teams because of tweeting something stupid (we had one such incident on campus last year). Just one stupid tweet could change someone’s life, and not in a good way. Twitter is not all positives for companies either. First of all, Twitter should only be used in conjunction with other marketing techniques because not everyone has a Twitter. Because of the Digital Divide, many people in the least developed countries have probably never even heard of Twitter, so these people cannot be reached through it. Also, stupid tweets can hurt a company’s reputation as well. Just looking up social media fails on Google will bring up plenty of stories about companies that goofed up on Twitter. The point of this whole thing is, Twitter can be very beneficial, as long as you use it wisely. What do you guys think?
