Homemade birthday steak set off the smoke detector. Cast iron pan was too hot. Never used one properly before so this was a good learning experience. I seared the steak and than tossed it in the oven. I think the sear was a bit aggressive and the steak went a lil past medium by the looks of it. If the pan hadn't been so hot, it probably wouldn't have finished off in the oven so quickly. Maybe I'll reverse sear next time.
