I paint simply because I have had an inner compulsion to do so since early childhood. I am an idealist, activist and dreamer. I believe the most beautiful character traits are courage, survival and hope. In a world that has rapidly become so very desensitized and distanced from anything tactile, I thoroughly derive joy from the messy application of traditional mediums. My work is a balance of light, non traditional application of medium(s) and color, layered in such a fashion as to strengthen various points of imagery under different light sources, as well as to evoke new imagery altogether; a continuous adventure for the eye , if you will. In an attempt to trump current standards of beauty I maliciously distort, warp and deform imagery from "ugly" to "beautiful" inviting the viewer past unperceived inner boundaries regarding their concepts of what is aesthetically pleasing and "pretty". Overall the works are a composite statement rendered in a metaphoric style expressing the true beauty that is born out of the survival of pain and the defiant tenacity of hope. I am merely the humble vessel my muse has kindly chosen to bring forth these expressions of hope, magic and sometimes even the miraculous. As an artist, I wish for and encourage others to find their own meaning therein, hopefully an undefinable "something" with which they can identify as well.
