I created a skunk cabbage design today, because Skunk Cabbage is weird and great!
Symplocarpus foetidus emerges early in the spring, even melting its way through snow via cyanide resistant respiration. It literally heats up the soil around it, allowing it to flower while the ground is still frozen. It produces an unpleasant smell, thus its name, which attracts pollinators.
