julie zhou reading response
Iām not sure I fully understand what Julie is trying to get across in this article. It seems like she is mentioning a problem and not really mentioning why it is a problem. The article explains that designers tend to design the middle of an experience first - the meat of the service or product, the things people would theoretically use it for on a daily basis - without considering the beginning. Iām not sure I really agree that that is a problem. I think you need to know what theĀ āmiddleā of your experience is before you decide how youāre going to introduce a new user to it. Designing from beginning to middle doesnāt make sense because you would be designing an introduction to an experience that you yourself donāt know yet. I also take issue with the terminology, if new users enter at theĀ ābeginningā and the meat of the experience is theĀ āmiddleā, what is theĀ āendā? The article doesnāt really explain this and overall feels like itās trying to invent an issue that isnāt super prevalent. Sure, a problem with a lot of apps is that they do a bad job getting you to return, but that often has to do with the holistic service - I donāt think that having a geniusĀ āNUXā experience is going to make someone use an app which doesnāt function. I understand the basis of her argument but Iām not sure the article was written in a very persuasive or well-researched manner.
service design reading response
This reading was pretty eye opening, and gave me some great insight into how we should frame our research and methods. Defining the separate parts of our service with People, Place, Props etc will be really helpful, along with defining touchpoints where value exchanges occur in the voting system. It is also necessary, I think, to research how voting has changed over the years and how it might still need to be updated for the modern times. These arenāt really things I had fully considered until doing the reading. I think it will be interesting and helpful to frame our work in the context of this reading.

Observations:
Hannah A.:
Difficulty selecting dimension units. Needs some sort of indicator that the units can be changed.
Same with directions on compass.
Search button needs to be clearer when searching for plants.
Clipping/seed options arenāt clearly buttons
Ashley Z.:
āThese buttons are smallā relating to the dimensions page.
Needs a cancel/back button on every page.
Kylie O.:
"Coolā
Same difficulty with the dimensions page. It would be helpful if theĀ āokayā button didnāt light up immediately after inputing the last number.
Struggled with the search button. Got lost in a loop
Some sort of animation to show dragging the plant into a spot.
Didnāt click around on search page. Greyed out might have been too effective. Pop up windows look smaller than necessary.
