He stopped squirming but remained tense as she continued running with him in her arms. She carried him like he was a mere rag doll. “Where are you taking me?”
“To my den. When you are stable enough, I will take you into town.”
Then you will no longer be my problem, she thought. She reached the den and took him to her makeshift medical table - he wasn’t the first that she’d rescued in these woods, and he wouldn’t be the last - and she laid him down with the utmost care.
He watched her closely and looked around her 'den'. "What is this place? Have you been here by yourself?" His mind was flood with questions now that the adrenalin was wearing off.
