Amelia Island 2022 has arrived!
Tomorrow I’ll be riding with #108 as a coach! This will be my 7th ride as a JDRF ride coach.
Charging up the ever important headlight and taillight!
Tonight served as a tremendous reminder of why we do this ride. Stories of triumph and why we ride. Stories of tragedy and reflection on those who lost their battle with T1D. Tomorrow we will set off around 7:30am local time to begin our journey to the finish line. For some that will be the full course (102 miles) and for others that will be a subset of that 102 miles. However, as JDRF always says “It’s the mission, not the miles”. The ride is certainly a big part of this event and at the end of the day we are riding in support of those with T1D, but the distance is not what defines our success. It is the fundraising and awareness we have raised for this extremely important cause.
Tomorrow will be my, and Jen’s, 8th ride for JDRF. We have not missed a year since we started in 2017 and we achieved a century mile bike ride even during the pandemic with my brother and his wife. Tomorrow we are joined by our ever growing family and friends. Some for the first time (Daniel Simons and Richard Harris) and some seasoned veterans (Paco Gelpi and countless others). This year is a little different for my sister-in-law who recently gave birth to their 2nd child - Baby Joey - and so I am humbled to say she is volunteering and participating in her own way. I am honored to be riding with each and every one of them!
Admittedly this has been a year unlike any other and my level of prep has been less that desired. However, tomorrow I will be reminded of why we do this ever important ride. Tomorrow is but one day while each person with T1D does not get a day, hour, minute off. We ride to raise funds for better lives, and to support those with T1D.
I am thrilled to share it is not too late to help contribute to this cause! As of writing this I have achieved 52% of my fundraising goal! As I set out on my quest for 102 miles tomorrow please consider helping this quest worth while. You can donate here[1]!
As we ride on tomorrow I will do my best to keep this blog up to date so check back for updates! Thank you all for your support and may you always have a strong wind at your back.
