New linocut. Two birds, two fish, tessellated. One print in black & white and one using a stenciled 2-pass monotype as color. (It was mostly an experiment in adding color via some other method than hand coloring or additional blocks.) This print and its design were inspired by one of Escher’s woodcut tesselations. The title is “One of These Birds…” size is 11in x 10in (27cm x 25cm) #printmaking #reliefprint #blockprint
Two color combos on this etched linoleum plate, title “The Space” (6in x 6in, 15cm x 15cm)
Finished my second 7-color reduction block print - this one is a linocut. “Cuyahoga Valley Sunrise” 18in x 12.5in (46cm x 32cm) just needs to be signed and editioned.
Finished, just need to sign and edition. “Lake Erie Morning” - 7-color reduction woodcut. 16in x 11in (40cm x 28cm)
Color #6 added to my new reduction woodcut print, one color left to print. Working title “Lake Erie Morning”
Work in progress: my first woodcut reduction print, 7 colors, 5 done. Working title, “Lake Erie Morning”
Draft print of my new “ode to Escher” tessellation linocut. There will be changes: adding color and possibly changing the black background to something textured/crosshatched. printmaking relief print block print
I love your tessellations, especially the fish and the recent tea towel! Can I ask what type of ink you are using? Inkpad?
Thank you for the lovely compliments. I don’t use a traditional ink pad because the ink is never strong enough on fabric. For the tea towels, I used screen printing ink and I rolled it on the rubber stamp using a small foam roller (approximately 6 inches long, soft foam, like one used to paint small wall areas). But recently I found great fabric ink from Speedball that can be rolled with a regular rubber brayer - they’re true relief inks. Love creating unique designs on fabric but hate heat-setting? Then Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Inks are for you! Made from a water-was
An older printed tea towel and the timelapse that I haven’t posted here yet
This one was really hard to design, cut, and print. I got the idea after watching the Jeff Buckley documentary. ##tessellatingpattern #blockprinting #rubberstamp #handmade #printmaking #reliefprint #patterndesign #animalpattern #butterfly #fish #pattern
New woodcut, “Safety Net” (12in x 9in)
New tessellation, new stamp, with cameo appearance from my cat
Finished a new dress. Fabric is hand-dyed (using avocado pits) and hand-printed rayon using a linocut and rubber stamps, pattern is True Bias Shelby Dress altered with a lace-down back fish pattern is my design.
Newest, more Escher-like, #tesselling #fishpattern I decided to print as a first run on fabric. Using @speedball_art silver fabric ink on dark blue acetate to be used as a lining for a handmade wool coat. Stay tuned.
