Courageous & Sexy in Puerto Rico

Hello All, I know I’ve neglected my writing for a while and I sincerely apologize. Lately, my focus has been on how I want to improve the quality of my life and the next steps I will take to accomplish that.

Every year, my parents decide where they want to go for a family trip. But this year, my sisters and I had the opportunity to provide some input! Our votes included Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, NYC, California, Jamaica, and France. Needless to say that the top pick was Puerto Rico. Leading up to this trip, I felt some anxiety. Everyone was excited about wearing swimsuits, water sports and other adventurous things.

HELLO!!! I can’t swim, I don’t wear swimsuits (EVER), but I’m always down for rock climbing, zip lining, and sometimes a roller coaster or two! Wearing a swimsuit was not something I wanted to do. In fact, I began to “Jedi Mind Trick” myself into thinking I was totally down for the cause. I bought myself a suit and tried it on… I felt good and declared that I would be like all of the other girls that inspire me on Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr. Even after seeing the episode of Girls (where Hannah proudly paraded around town in her swimsuit), I was determined to make my mark this summer!

Oh, but when the moment of truth availed itself at a luxurious beach in Puerto Rico… Sigh… I chickened out! I didn’t want to expose my gut to the world; or my fat arms or my lumpy thighs. And as I lounged in my beach chair, I thought about the things people said about me in the past. “You’d be really pretty if you got rid of that belly” or hating females ridiculing Josh for having a “fat ass girlfriend”. I wanted to cry and continue to hide under my sundress until my sister says “What’s wrong with you? What happened to all that smack you were talking about (mocking me) I’m gonna represent for the thick girls?!” So instead of being hot and uncomfortable, I reluctantly lowered my sundress and took a dip in the ocean! And when I was done, I had a mini photo shoot!

I am proud to flaunt my curves to you all. Be proud of who you are… Even if it isn’t desired by others.
