The dance is never ended Dancers only come and go On the floor that we create Through our words, thoughts, and deeds

It's been two years since mine began And in that time, so many things Have come and gone and flown right by As I have watched and listened

And even when I wearied When my feet could dance no more You took the mantle, thought of me And danced on in my stead

And seeing you, I softly wept In gratitude and joy Dreaming of the day when I Could dance with you again

My candle flickers yet again Its wick will wax and wane But while I can, I'll take my chance

It feels like love, it feels like hope It feels like joy and peace It feels like gentle caring Like friendship, family

It feels like oh so many things Every time it feels like more If we take time to reflect And bring it with us onward.

It matters not what day it is And yet now more than ever We want to feel ourselves embraced By hope and peace and love

We hope and pray most every year That this time we’ll remember That this time all the pain will stop That love will reign supreme

But we are human, we forget We lose ourselves in chaos The Christmas truce ends far too soon And once again, we fall

But maybe this time we’ll remember We’ll try that small bit harder To find and to embrace the spirit Where’er it may lie

And with one spark and then another The world will come ablaze With gentle, loving kindness With words, with smiles, with an embrace

I pray that it will happen I pray our hope rings true And this time this year, will be the time We find that blessed peace.

We hear the bells and hum along To the carol once remembered And think of when we’d sung it loud With friends and those we love

Especially in these days As the year draws to a close There seems to be so much to do In hurried preparation

And our feet grow weary And our minds overlook Focussed only on what may be needed In the moment, in the next step

Might we miss the wonder That lies within our eyesight That whispers to us softly In the world’s chaotic din?

Might we let beauty slip us by In our frenzy for perfection And our will for pure completion As deadlines loom too near?

I hope we find the moments To rest our minds and feet To breathe, to dream, to wonder In our own created stillness

The world continues onward We’ll join it, too, in time But in these moments find release So we, whole, can carry on.

There are lights to guide you As your feet continue onwards Brightening the windows and Reminding you of home

In the daylight we are given We experience the world In each day, we see the future As we bask in warmth and light

To a candle’s gentle flicker You may join in meditation Finding stillness in its movement Eternity in its transcendence

In a star’s so distant light Lies the dreams of several nations And we celebrate with story While we hope one day to visit

In a soul, so metaphorical A light that will connect us Drawing us so close together Through the cracks within our hearts

Let us revel in these lights Find their wonder where they lie Let us, too, create our own light And shine as bright as day.

Words of love upon our lips Actions in our fingertips Waiting for us to release them Give them to the world

Within us, they can’t do much good Intentions fading into void All the warmth they could bestow Fading to cold embers

And yet, if we release them And let them, glowing, grow Their memories remaining Could warm the coldest nights

So let us take all that we hold And give it to the world Knowing it will be returned In its own time and pace.

Seventy-nine

In one more week, it will be eighty That we’ve danced upon this floor

In one more week, this Christmastide Will finally reach its apex

I wonder, in the coming week What we will now discover?

Will we find the loving heart That permeates this season?

Or in the bustle of the world Will it go overlooked?

Will we still come together And dance in deed and heart?

Or will we sing new songs and stories Alone, with other partners?

Will we still have our voices To sing out clear and strong?

Or we will find a silent world In stillness or in sorrow?

I hope this next week treats you well Brings mirth and joy and peace

And angels tread along your path And shower you with love.

May angels guide your every step As you go on your way And in each moment, with each breath Know that you are blessed

There are those who think of you And smile at the thought Whose hearts are more complete Because you are in their lives

There are things that you have done That have shaped another’s world Even moments long forgotten They may cherish still

There are a multitude of ways That you have shaped the lives Of all who are around you In body or in spirit

And so I pray a blessing Upon you once again That you’ll always remember You’re important. You are loved.

Tomorrow, full of promises Tomorrow, guardian of dreams Tomorrow, hope rings evermore Tomorrow, in its coming

I hope tomorrow treats you well As it becomes today And that its joy will then be found In each tomorrow after.

How is it we can touch each other Though hands may never meet? Our souls resounding each in turn With these, our stranger-friends

A life that is known intimately May not hold name or face And yet can be a cherished one Within one’s mind and heart

A city, country, continent May separate us still And yet, we find togetherness And cherish in community

We feel the pangs of loneliness Yet know we’re not alone This wondrous strange duality Within our shared existence

And yet, we still may touch each other Though hands may never meet Spirits embrace in word and image Together, they will dance.

Bells ring The world cries out In sadness that surrounds And chokes us where we stand As we see the injustices That would undo our world

Bells ring We shout to drown them out Our feelings far too strong To listen to their strains As we take action in the name Of all we see that’s wrong

Bells ring We do not hear them still In the oblivion that follows Living in a bustling world Perhaps we’ll hear them in our dreams But in our days, no time, no space

Bells ring Perhaps one day we’ll hear And ring with them in joy When hearts are happy, light, and ready To join in the merriment Too easily lost within our lives.

Bells ring I hope we’ll hear them soon Lest they would stop forever I hope we find the time and space And find each other too And in our celebration, dance

As bells ring out once more.

Another candle lit tonight Upon the wreath, on the menorah A circle lit, a martyr’s light Each small flame brightening the world

Their tiny glows bring so much joy And hope as they illuminate In each pinprick, there is warmth Dreams to be found within their dance
