The plot: The Unseen World is set in the 1980s in Boston, and tells the story of a single father and his daughter. The father runs a computer science lab; his daughter Ada is a home-schooled prodigy who learns everything he knows and works alongside him. When her father’s mind begins failing and it becomes clear that he might not be who he’s always said he was, Ada is taken in by his female colleague, who has three boys Ada’s age. Ada spends the rest of her life learning to navigate the real world and using evolving technology to discover her father’s secrets and reconcile the man she thought she knew with the truth.

Glamour: This new episode starts with Jody and Mindy kissing. Fans have been very vocal about this, and not in a good way.

Matt Warburton: I love the strong reaction we’ve gotten from it. We knew it would be controversial, and we always try to listen to what people are saying. We knew that whoever we chose to be the next—and not just date-for-an-episode-guy—but the next big, romantic rival guy, was going to have a very tough act to follow. There will be a certain number of our fans that will only want her to be with Danny, but we’re asking them to follow us through this, because we designed all this stuff on purpose to find a guy that is really different than Danny, that brings out different qualities in Mindy. The Jody character is a very big comedy character—that is sort of a funny rival for her—and what we’re going for the rest of this season is what does he give her that Danny doesn’t, and what does Danny give her that Jody doesn’t? And have Mindy really in a corner where you can’t have everything. And you know, whatever a fan would say about Jody’s character, Mindy would probably agree. There are also really great things about him. I think there’s a sweetness to the character, and I think the audience watching the last few episodes will really see hopefully why a character like Mindy might be very receptive to a guy like Jody.

This is a slightly delayed ask, but how did you feel about Jessica Radloff's response to your tweet? It seemed like she was a dismissive. LIke she might be drinking the Kaling/Warburton kool-aid with that "I would worry about it." stand point. Yes/no?

I imagine Jessica wants to maintain her good working relationship with Mindy and her team, so it’s in her best interest to stay vague and say things like “don’t worry about it” when asked about Messina’s absence.

But to your point, I took her response (and this tweet from today: https://twitter.com/jradloff/status/745448192771133440) with a grain of salt and have very little expectation that she’ll be honest with us about her feelings about Messina leaving.

So, no, I wouldn’t say it was dismissive, but I also wish she’d had more to say than that canned response.
