Heterochromia (literally "different colors") is a rare condition where an individual has two different colored eyes. It is very overrepresented in twenty-first century fiction, to the point that it is considered a standard cliche in teen, young adult, and fanfiction genres to bluntly indicate that a particular character is special.
Homophobia (literally "same fear" via "homosexuality") is an irrational prejudice against individuals who are attracted to the same sex. It is very overrepresented in twenty-first century reality.
The words are not alike and would not be confused with one another by English speakers. There is a vague chain of related words that link them (Homophobia - Homosexual - Heterosexual - Heterochromia) and there is a vague word pattern between phobia and chromia, but the mistake would be extremely unexpected. Likely the individual above uses or hears the word "homophobia" far, far more than "heterochromia" (which is an expected frequency distribution in the early twenty-first century) and had a "mind fart."
