How are you feeling about the state of Canadian politics?
Quite depressed.
I'm a very optimistic person, but as a Trans person, it feels like the writing is on the wall for this upcoming federal election.
I don't know if the Liberals or NDP will get their shit together enough to prevent a Conservative majority. I'd really not like to start losing my rights or for my friends who are marginalized in different ways than I am to l lose theirs.
Poilievre is a fascist, and Canadians seem willing to elect him just because Trudeau is useless and unlikeable. We are not a 2 party system. There is another option. We don't have to flip back and forth between useless Centrists and Authoritarian Conservatives.
It all just makes me worried.
I'm not trying to distract from the problem here, but I'm wondering what leads our consensus to be that PP is fascist. He's conservative which is already enough for me to be against him, but has he actually said fascist stuff I'm unaware of? I'd like to be aware of it, because if he's a fascist like Trump that would be much more alarming than my current read of what's going down.
Yes, he is:
Is the leader of the federal torries a fascist and transphobe? Yes, he supports the fascist truckers convoy and is a well documented Transph
Well I certainly agree that he's transphobic and there is some material here pointing towards him being a cryptofascist. I'm not personally going to take the fascist angle against him, because I think it sort of makes us look unhinged when you place him side by side with Trump who is vastly more openly extreme.
That said, I'm not going to hate on you for using it against him. I'm just not sure if it's a good strategy is all.
He literally supported Nazi's. Not once but multiple times:
The photo with Jeremy MacKenzie wasn’t Pierre Poilievre’s first exposure to the Diagolon movement, writes columnist Max Fawcett.
OPINION: Christine Anderson shows the delicate game the Conservative leader is playing
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says three members of his party who met with a German politician from a far-right party will stay in ca
Probing Poilievre’s winking flirtation with fringe-right groups could provide us with crucial information that Conservative strategists are
Also I don't know how you can admit he's Transphobic and not consider him a fascist. He wants to take the rights of me and my community away. Like how is that not behaviour of a fascist? The first thing fascists do when they get power, is to take the rights away from minorities.
100% agree with your post

but just remember people who are fans of theirs openly sent death threats to Lou and his family! So the same compassion should be sent his way as well!
I'll be completely honest, I wasn't aware of anyone sending threats to Lou but when I say no one should be harassing anyone on the cast I do hope you understand that past and present cast is included under that umbrella.
At the end of the day this is a fictional show about made up characters and harassing the real people who play these made up characters is ridiculous.
Just today I saw a tweet of someone demanding to see Ryan's green card and saying he needs to be deported back to Mexico when he's an American citizen.
People are accusing Oliver of being biphobic when he's put so much care and effort into telling Buck's bisexuality journey. He believes in it and wants to tell it authentically. He chose to see Buck as bisexual and play him accordingly. He didn't have to do that, he could have kept Buck a straight man.
None of it is okay.
You're more than welcome to dislike the direction a show goes and disagree with it. You're more than welcome to discuss it. Hell, this show has definitely done things that I didn't agree with. But at the end of the day it's a network television show and it's purpose is to entertain.
Like every piece of media there is a real person at the end of it and I encourage people to really think long and hard about whether it's appropriate, necessary, or warranted to send any sort of threats or harassment.
Often times the answer is no.
Thanks for the ask Anon!

I know this isn’t viable for all Americans and in general I wouldn’t recommend it (given how difficult it can be) but I know a lot of vulnerable people are desperate and feeling very unsafe in the USA right now. I’m not judging anyone, which is why I am providing this information with no bias what so ever.
Americans should also know that Canada has every single systemic social issue that the USA does, so moving here is not going to necessarily get rid of these issues. They may be less severe in some ways, more severe in others but there are serious issues here, so if you are considering this please don’t uphold Canada as some kind of utopia.
I am also available anytime to answer any questions.
Posting this again for obvious reasons.
This isn’t going to be a solution for everyone, but for Trans people, People Of Colour, Immigrants and many other marginalized groups may no longer feel safe after tonight’s election result, so I’m just offering whatever help I can.

A proposed boycott of Loblaw stores is gaining momentum online.
Shoppers say they’re fed up with high food prices at major grocers and are urging others not to buy from any Loblaw-affiliated company during the month of May.
Talk of the proposed boycott started on social media, with organizers hoping to put pressure on the company to lower grocery costs and remove member-only pricing policies.
“I think something needs to be done for sure, because people can’t afford it,” one shopper told CTV News at a Kitchener Zehrs on Monday. [...]

While the government of Newfoundland and Labrador agrees with federal law that housing is a human right, most other provinces wouldn't answe
As more Canadians find themselves struggling to afford or find housing, the country's smallest province is the only one that can point to legislation recognizing housing as a human right.
The Canadian Press asked every province whether it agreed with the federal housing advocate that shelter is a human right, and if it intends to introduce legislation upholding that right.
Most did not answer the questions directly and responded with a laundry list of initiatives launched to address the housing crises brewing in their jurisdictions.
In Quebec, the government's lack of interest in addressing the question was revealed in an errant email sent to a reporter.
When prodded for a response one week after an initial request, a spokesperson for Quebec's housing minister mistakenly sent a reply intended for a government colleague.
"Do I ghost her again?" she wrote Thursday. "Otherwise, a general response that doesn't answer, to say housing is a priority for our government?" By Friday afternoon, Quebec had not provided a response. [...]

Kamloops, B.C., city council has formally called on Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson to resign after a scathing report from a provincially appointed municipal adviser was made public on Tuesday.
[...]
It is particularly critical of Hamer-Jackson's behaviour toward council and city staff, saying that the mayor has shown "a dismissive and condescending attitude towards constructive criticism or the suggestion of apologies," and that his treatment of staff may have led to an unsafe work environment.
Hamer-Jackson's reign has been particularly eventful for the B.C. Interior city of around 100,000 people. It has seen multiple investigations, a defamation lawsuit filed by the mayor against a councillor, and the mayor suspending the city's acting CAO in a bid to "change things up."
Braun's Wednesday report could be a turning point, as it recommends the council consider creating financial sanctions for code of conduct violations in a bid to repair its dysfunctional nature.
It prompted an 8-1 vote by councillors calling on the mayor to resign — though the motion passed overwhelmingly, with Hamer-Jackson voting against, it is not legally binding.
