500 gravity falls
500.1 "i'd have two nickels" (gravity falls version)
currently thinking about an element swap au where water lord zuko spreads water nation propaganda by using his scar to persuade people that it is the doing of the fire tribe when in reality his scar was the result of scalding third degree burns inflicted by his own father and former water lord ozai
katara of the fire tribe, daughter of former chieftain hakoda and sister of current cheiftain sokka, is the tribe’s firebending master—she is sokka’s right hand in their revolt against the water nation. driven by rage and vengeance, katara not only seeks justice, but the truth behind the supposed “harmless” nature of the water nation
the people deserve to know that the fire tribe wouldn’t be so mindless as to take the lives of one of their own, that the blood of kya remains in the hands of the water nation since the moment they drowned her
in which my indecisiveness can’t pick a single trope to write a zutara fic so i made them into *almost* every trope
enemies to lovers: once the defeat of the now-former fire lord ozai marked the end of the 100-year war, it is up to the gaang and the cooperation of the four nations to welcome in a new era of peace. with katara’s feelings for aang fully realized and recognized as nothing more than platonic, familial love—aang unblocks his final chakra before removing ozai’s ability to bend, and continues his mission to restoring balance and rebuilding the air nation with the help of the air acolytes. katara, on her own journey to becoming ambassador to the southern water tribe and waterbending master to many more benders, aids her former enemy-turned-ally-turned-friend fire lord zuko on the search for his mother. new feelings arise between the pair, but a question stands: with their shared feuding and heroic history, will zuko and katara muster up the courage to address their feelings for each other, and possibly open a new era in their relationship?
you helped me avenge my mother, now let me help you find yours.
friends to lovers: what if ursa did not make her escape from fire nation royalty without bringing one of her kin with her? with the aid of her brother-in-law, iroh executes a plan for ursa and zuko to take refuge in the earth kingdom while zuko was a baby. especially after seeing part of her baby boy’s face burnt due to the fire lord hearing rumours about his son’s having been conceived by another man, ursa was determined more than ever to protect her son’s life—even if that meant abdicating herself and zuko from the royal family. years later, when two southern water tribe kids arrive in ba sing se accompanying the avatar, katara is instantly drawn to and befriends the server at the jasmine dragon tea shop. her kind genuine nature allows lee to let his walls down around her, but she still feels there’s more to the surface than meets the eye. they may be friends, but can zuko and katara trust each other enough to be fully vulnerable with each other? or will the transparency bring more harm than good??
you’re my favourite customer, katara, but uncle won’t be happy if i keep giving you freebies
arranged marriage: in a world where the avatar and the 100-year war never existed, the four nations would still not live in harmony. the fire nation may not have wiped out the air nation, but it’s clear that they were the ones trying to exert control. to mask their agendas, the fire sages propose an arranged marriage between prince zuko and the cheiftain’s daughter, katara, of the southern water tribe. neither of the pair are happy about the arrangement, as both of them hold particular resentments towards the other’s heritage and way of life. however, at the end of the day, zuko and katara know that business and pleasure can never mix, and this marriage is nothing more than strictly business. the purpose of their union is above them, and despite them both having a desire to marry for love, they can’t deny their nations a chance at peace—but when the lines start to blur in time, and new feelings emerge between the betrothed pair, how will zuko and katara navigate the nature of their relationship amongst all the politics behind their fabricated union?
i don’t like you, and you don’t like me, but if my father believes this will bring balance to the world, then that’s enough for me to at least tolerate this pathetic excuse of a union
brother’s best friend: zuko and sokka not only remained friends after the defeat of ozai and the end of the 100-year war, they became best friends. with the prince of the fire nation quickly becoming fire lord, and the son of the cheiftain, with his future set in stone, the pair were bound to see each other often in meetings. katara, daughter of the cheiftain, attends these meetings as well—with the promise of one day becoming ambassador for the southern water tribe. as months go by, and katara tagging along to post-meetings between her brother and his best friend, things start to change when sokka begins to take over the reigns as cheiftain and his father calls for more involvement before he fully retires from his role. though katara misses travelling to the fire nation with her brother, she always knew it was inevitable that one day she would find herself returning to the fire nation alone, per her duties as ambassador. with sokka absent from the picture, what will happen when katara starts to see the fire lord as the man he is for the first time—and zuko realizes there is much more to the ambassador than his best friend’s little sister?
you’ve always been an amazing woman, katara. i guess i gotta start remembering that instead of just sokka’s baby sister
second chance: after losing her husband and brother, and with her children fully grown with families of their own, katara has never felt more alone in her life. zuko, now retired from being fire lord, is also saddened by the loss of his two friends. seeing an opportunity to revive their friendship, zuko and katara regularly meet for tea and pai sho. the more time they spend together has not only helped them work through their grievances, but reignited the liveliness of their childhood spirits—and their tea and pai sho sessions expanded to playful combat. for the first time in decades, zuko and katara feel young again, but is there more than a revitalized old friendship that awaits them?
for the first time in a while, i’ve felt alive again. you made me feel alive again, zuko
secret identity: what if aang never unlocked the avatar state and ozai reigned victorious? the gaang is forced to go on the run as to not be captured (and executed) by the fire nation. despite taking orders to lay low by iroh and other allies while team avatar comes up with another plan to take down ozai and the newly crowned fire lord azula, zuko and katara knew deep down, their hearts and the four nations are still crying out for justice. without the other knowing, they each take on vigilante aliases—zuko as the blue spirit and katara as the painted lady. a partnership is forged between the two, even though neither party is aware of the real identity of the other. will the blue spirit and the painted lady be brave enough to trust each other with their true identities on their own, or will time make that call for them?
if you knew who i really am, you wouldn’t love me. in fact, it would be the opposite… because the real me is unhonorable
forbidden romance: what’s stopping zuko and katara from getting together? literally everything. zuko knows better than to fall in love with the girl from the southern water tribe, especially since he’s put in the tough position of fire lord at the age of seventeen. as if he isn’t already under fire from betraying his father and sister, what kind of honorable man would he be if he were to steal the avatar’s love, too? on the other hand, how could katara fall for her former enemy—the face she saw when she thought of the nation which tore her family apart and terrorized her village? why bother fighting for a place in a nation where its people not only disrespect but outright refuse to tolerate her people?? and after all aang had done to save the world and prove his unyielding love, who would she be to deny the avatar of her love??? unfortunately, against zuko and katara’s better judgement, their hearts are already set on each other—but as neither of them act upon their feelings, they wonder over the years if the imbalance in their hearts is the right price to pay to bring balance across the four nations?
don’t you think i’ve been going crazy, too?! like it doesn’t also eat me up inside, losing sleep because all i want is to be around you?! to laugh with you?! … to kiss you? … but we don’t—and we shouldn’t. because aang loves me and the fire nation doesn’t need another reason to distrust you
fake dating: taking place in their early twenties, zuko and katara find themselves in individual predicaments—the fire sages are pressuring the fire lord into finding a bride, and the southern water tribe ambassador and master waterbender-slash-healer had been broken up with the avatar for some years now, but poor aang still believes that she is his forever girl. katara loves him, and she cherishes the romance they once shared, but she’s tired of repeating to him that things can’t stay the same forever and she simply doesn’t see a future for them like that. though zuko wants to marry for love, his love life hasn’t been a priority lately, but he doesn’t believe the sages are helping him by pressing for marriage with the intent of continuing the royal bloodline. with the only way to get the fire sages to back off is to prove an already existing relationship, and the only way to convince aang to move on is if she’s moved on herself—zuko and katara strike a deal, but how much of their personal feelings will start to eclipse the nature of their contracted relationship?
you call that acting? katara… i got tired of acting a long time ago… and i think i’m getting tired of keeping my feelings a secret, too
royalty: after running a successful career as the southern water tribe’s ambassador, katara is ready to settle down. though zuko expresses hesitance with regard for her own interest, she assures her boyfriend that she’s more than ready for marriage and becoming fire lady. after all, in just her teens, she managed to master waterbending, healing, and bloodbending; train the avatar in defeating ozai; defeating azula herself alongside the boy she would later fall in love and begin a relationship with; and ending the 100-year war. yet, despite years of implementing systemic change across the four nations for the betterment of society, there are still some fire nation nationalists who remain stuck in their ways and already hold certain opinions about their fire lord being in a romantic relationship with an outsider—and with a water tribe girl, no less. katara isn’t one to back down from a challenge, and is determined more than ever to fight for her place as fire lady. will the fire nation come to respect fire lady katara in the way the fire lord loves her?
i don’t want to become fire lady because i want you to be your wife—i want to be fire lady because i fell in love with the fire nation when i saw you become passionate as fire lord. you saw the fire nation for what it could be, and i want to be part of that change
unrequited love: zuko realized he fell in love with katara the moment he took azula’s lightning for her. when she healed him, he wished the attack hadn’t made him so weak so he could kiss her then and there. on the day everyone gathered at the jasmine dragon to celebrate the end of the 100-year war, zuko was ready to confess his feelings, but aang had beaten him to it. although his heart burned for katara, zuko had found a true friend in the avatar, and what kind of honorable person would he be if he were to stand in the way of his good friend’s happiness? even if he had the spotlight on the world stage as the fire lord, he felt pushed to the sidelines every time he saw the avatar and the girl he loved together, making a lifetime of memories in their new relationship. zuko may never get over katara, but will katara ever get to know the true nature of the fire lord’s feelings for her?
“i did fall in love with katara. and i’ll probably always love her.”
mafia: after suffering the loss of her mother at the hands of the fire family, katara of the water family makes it her mission to take down her rival family by any means necessary. taking on a false identity as a non-bender that happened to have waltz into the wrong side of town, zuko—son of ozai, head of the fire family—takes her in under his protection, but is hesitant to reveal to her the truth of his identity and family history. he’s only known to play with fire his whole life, but nothing could have possibly prepared zuko for katara—who’s hellbent on seeing the downfall of ozai and his two children. however, as time passes, the two grow a bond that neither one could deny: is zuko the fool for letting his walls down in front of the woman he doesn’t really know but can’t help to be drawn to? or is it katara, for slowly finding herself falling for the most dangerous man across the four families??
this is getting too far, but not in the way i wanted it to. this… us– we’re getting too real. what we have is starting to become something and what i’m feeling for you is perhaps the scariest thing i’ve ever gone through my whole life
a/b/o-verse: what if ozai were less concerned about the fire nation conquering the world, but rather on a mission to maintain a three-tiered hierarchy: where alphas, like himself, reaped all the benefits at the expense of moderately-paid betas who are none the wiser, and omegas who aren’t treated any more than slaves that are constantly the target of transactional matters. prince zuko—another alpha and the fire lord’s son—can’t get the scent of sweetgrass and saltwater out of his head when he briefly crosses paths with a waterbending blue-eyed omega, whose enraged demeanour is driven from the deep-seeded injustice of omegas everywhere. despite knowing she would reject an alpha of his background, katara’s scent plagues zuko’s mind, haunting his dreams, leading him to many sleepless nights. zuko, who is typically well-mannered and self-disciplined, abandons all rationale when he begins to turn against his father to dismantle the system that has poorly treated betas and omegas—including the woman he loves—for decades. when zuko offers his full support and resources to aid katara in taking down the fire lord, she initially pushes him away, brushing it off as charity work—and if there was anything she was not, it was charity. but what will it take for omega katara to see that between herself and the alpha prince of the fire nation, it is really her who is in control?
i don’t care how low you think of me, but you need to know i think so highly of you. i think the world—the universe—of you. the fire in my heart hasn’t burned harder for anyone—alpha, beta, or omega

it’s not as if everyone who worked on this movie wasn’t already doing god’s work but whoever was cooking by putting zk standing beside each other so they’re screentimemaxxing clearly ascended beyond the avatar state i love whoever thought zk crumbs in the new movie was a good idea
So I kind of drew this 3 years ago but had nowhere to post it, now that I have found my fellow Zutara lovers, I figured this was the best time then any. I was really into Bridgerton at the time and Kathony was all I could think about( enemies to lovers am I right??). Of course this led me to drawing my OG E-L couple.
I just want you and all the others who contribute to Shortaki Week to know that you're doing the Fandom Lord's Work with Shortaki week. Every year I go through a Hey Arnold hyperfixation, specifically about these two goobers, and every year there's a new smorgasbord of fics and art for me to enjoy. I think I'll try participating next year...Or maybe even just use this year's prompts. Who knows?
We're gearing up to drop the 2026 prompts so this is exciting! We'd love to see you participate this year and are glad to be just a little involved in a beloved fandom project every year. It's a delight to see it spread across tumblr and reddit and instagram and twitter, etc. Makes it worth the effort of putting it together to see how well the week is received by old and new fans!!
