AJ interview release day!
So many interviews being posted today…
SPOILERS AHEAD! My round up;
Paget coming back fits I to the flashback portion of the spoilers more than anything so I’m okay with her coming back to the show. I don’t necessarily miss her nor am I overly excited for her return, but I get why Prentiss fans will be excited and I’d rather we saw Prentiss and Strauss and whoever else in flashbacks rather than having a random case where the BAU works with Interpol…
More importantly, JJ is going to be in danger in the 200th and through JJ’s and the teams flashbacks about JJ’s time away will they solve the case……. Is it too much to hope for some JJ and Hotch discussions over their shared secret and just their friendship in general?
They seem to be moving away for the “season of JJ” comments for the loud fans who found outrage in that comment rather than realising that they’d never forget about other characters at the same time. But I hope it doesn’t mean that they’re going to tone down the amount of JJ in season 9, or just dip in and out of JJ and Cruz’ arc, because I don’t want another replicator where we forget about it until it becomes irrelevant then we’re supposed to care again, and AJ’s right, JJ is probably the least well known character par Blake, so it’s right she gets more attention at times, especially when we already know a bit about others origins or backstories.
I do like the idea of origin story lines as long as it somehow ties back into the case and the team and agents as agents rather than their personal life, but I’m a little apprehensive about everyone getting an origin episode and how they’ll pull it off. Flashbacks rarely work outside of 100, as far as I’m concerned.
I’m also a little hesitant about what storylines they choose for the flashbacks. I think I’ll be happy with JJ and Hotch’s from what I’ve heard (although my back story for them will probably be completely different from what it actually is). I want to know a lot more about JJ and Hotch than we do, probably more than the writers will ever consider, so as long as we get some decent insight into JJ and Hotch, I’ll be somewhat happy, if they could overlap some of their backstory so we could see them interact in the old days I’ll be even happier.
But I wish Garcias wasn’t about an ex and was more to do with her hacking life or her family (Garcia is a Gorgeous woman and should have a love life, I just don’t need it to be The focus of the majority of Garcia centric episodes). Blake’s is supposedly about her family and not through flashbacks which could be interesting but I would have liked to learn more about her relationship with Strauss…
Morgan’s girlfriend thing I couldn’t care less about. We already have me this family a few times and we’ve heard snippets about his time as a cop and his time in Chicago, I would have liked to know more about his ATF time or undercover stint, just as I would have liked to hear more about Hotch’s time in Swat or prosecutor, but I won’t be fussed if Morgan doesn’t get that much focus. I’m not the hugest Reid fan so I’m not too worried about his centric story line, we’ve seen his parents, we know a lot about his childhood and we’ve had flashbacks before, so there’s nothing I’m particularly dying to know, maybes seeing his time in the academy would be fun especially if we saw him struggling in his professional life rather than just seeing his struggles in his personal life, and Rossi’s backstory eps are usually one of three things, unfinished business, ex wife/partner or his time in the Marines, so I’m not anticipating much deviation there.
I also feel a little dejected that it’s taken till season 9 to even really mention many of these characters backstories. It would have been fine five or six seasons ago, when there was mentions of their previous lives or specialties and development was more necessary. Now it makes me feel a Little wary, because I’m guessing a lot of long term fans like me, have their own theories and inferred origin stories for the characters and I’m worried it won’t live up to what I’ve imagined.
I am looking forward to season 9, even more so after reading the barrage of interviews AJ And EM have been in today. I can’t wait to meet the new guy and see how they develop this season. It seems like they have a clearer idea of what they want season 9 to be now, especially in comparison to season 8 where they wanted a really bad guy to be in the whole season but also wanted to do loads of other dangerous unsubs, tragic stories for a couple of characters and centric episodes for every character that conflicted with the replicator rather than adding to it.
At least this season they have an idea of what they want to do up to the 200th and have thought of a way to tie every character into it.
