The post that changed my mind about the virus.
The post that changed my mind about the virus.
Like all of you, I am just trying to wrap my mind around this new normal. While I do know that the scary part will end, I also know that things as we know them will be very different afterward. I’m not just talking the virus here, I’m talking about football and baseball in New England! Mookie, Tom, we will miss you! (and might I add, Tom, while I respect your decision, your timing sucks)
So, while we sit here ironing out how to manage our daily lives for the next few weeks, we should also think about how wonderful it will be afterward. I am enjoying the time reading to my baby without skipping the last page to hurry downstairs to get to work. My older daughter is learning Spanish just because she wants to and doing the whole program all on her own.
My hubs and I working back to back distance by only our foyer has actually been, dare I say it…enjoyable. I can see when things are getting little crazy for him and ask him if he needs anything and at the same time he sees what it’s like working from home, you know with children running up to you needing something every 1.3 seconds. It’s different, but I am choosing to only see the positive in everything. Are there things that worry me? Of course. But, I am acknowledging them and moving on to being grateful for the good. This positive space helps me to focus on what I need to do for work and family. And let me tell you, everyone could benefit from it.
I have been “standing by” on social media as far as posting anything new related to my work, because for some reason, I kept telling myself something awful: “I don’t want to bother people with ‘hey, senior portraits are coming up!’ or ‘do you need to order something?’ when there are so many other things out there that are more important.”
Then one of my favorite girls (Thanks Kath💗) posted this to Instagram: and I realized exactly what my place is here; to continue what I do. (you know, while everyone makes sure they #STAYTHEFUCKHOME We are all aware of the healthcare and financial crisis, but as a High School Senior Photographer AND the Mom of a HS Senior, this little bit hits hard…Senior Year things cancelled. But, one thing that I found in the midst is that so many are turning to photos like this, photos of “good times”, parties, friends and families spending time together. And at a time when you can’t physically BE together, photos “bring” us together.
I believe and have been studying a LOT about how our mind works and how our mindset can affect our lives. And for anyone who thinks it’s just a big pile of bologna, know that my Bachelors Degree is not in Photography, it’s in Psychology. How our brain works, how our minds work, all that Self-Help stuff that you might think is just silliness…it’s fo’ real yo. #Science
So, to that end, I plan to infuse my social media (and start blogging again..whoa…) with all this goodness. To keep all of our minds focused on how that much more amazing things will be when we can all be together again.
And when it does, group shoots like this one will be even MORE important. I am so damn glad that these girls have this memory!! and I want to make more of them!! There are so many things that I want to do. I have so much coming for you all.
Class of 2020, you know this is deeply personal for me…keep your eyes on my social media because I am planning some things for EVERYONE that I hope will at least try to help ease the pain of what you’re missing right now.
Class of 2021, I will have you covered as well. There is definitely more to come, so keep your eyes open.
