JENNY OWEN YOUNGS and KRISTIN RUSSO Join Destiny, NY With Comic Artist MEGAN LEVENS
Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo, hosts of the popular Buffering the Vampire Slayer podcast, join longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Megan Levens for their first foray into comics with Space Between Entertainmentâs flagship title about magical girls in love, Destiny, NY.
Jenny Owen Youngs, also a singer-songwriter, and writer/speaker/activist Kristin Russo are the latest writers to join Destiny, NY which will see its second volume release in 2018. They will be contributing a six-page story focusing on former magical girl Logan McBride as she experiences a life-changing event. Youngs and Russo are the host of the hit Buffering podcast, during which they recap, dissect, and create songs about every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Destiny, NY features stories from some of the industryâs top talent, including Erica Schultz, Natasha Alterici, Claudia Aguirre, Vita Ayala, Fabian Lelay, Emily Ree, Amy Shand, Lisa Sterle, Lauren Reilly, Eve Mae, Katie Kuffel, and more. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2016, Space Between Entertainment released the first volume of Destiny, NY to positive reviews. The series was described by Word of the Nerd as âthe queer magical comic of your wildest dreams.â The series now continues with a second volume, which includes a 160-page story by Shand and X-Men artist Rosi KĂ€mpe, as well as eight-bonus comics by featured guest creators, including a story from this new creative team.
Shannon Lee, Editor-in-Chief of Space Between Entertainment, says of hiring Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo: âIâve followed Jennyâs music and Kristinâs inspiring activism for years, and I have seen them do great things independently and together. Their voices and sensibilities would work well in the graphic medium, so we are proud to publish their first comic.â
Pat Shand says, âIâve been a fan of Megan Levensâ art on Buffy ever since I first saw her draw those characters. She brings to her work the humanity, humor, and attention to detail that made me fall in love with the show to begin with, so Iâve wanted to work with her for a long while. When we brought in Kristin & Jenny, whose Buffering the Vampire Slayer podcast has garnered a cult following both inside and outside of the Buffy fandom, it made perfect sense to pair them with Megan. As a lifelong Buffy fan myself, I am beyond excited to see what these amazing creators do in our world.â
Destiny, NY Volume Two is live on Kickstarter right now, where it has already surpassed its goal of $20,000. The campaign, which will run until September 28th, can be seen at:

Getting In Bed with Jenny Owen Youngs!
Jenny Owen Youngs - my wife, musician, and Nintendo/X-Files/Dinosaur nerd - joins me in my (our) guest bed this week! We answer a bunch of your questions, a little bit of advice, and hear about how Jenny left me in the clutches of a grizzly bear one time. (It was a black bear, but STILL).

BUBLĂ IN A MANGER:Â A HOLIDAY PLAYLIST FROM ME TO YOUÂ
Hey yâall, I got caught up in the holiday spirit and made a playlist of some of my favorite xmas jams. Every odd-numbered song is by Michael BublĂ©, and every even-numbered song is by somebody else. Kristin made this slightly disturbing art and also came up with the playlist name (bless you Kristin).
I hope you all have a festive December 24th, a delightful December 25th, and a wonderful every-day-that-follows too.
