remember on glee when they made marley, the girl who was, by all accounts, the nicest person ever 90% of the time, get gaslit into thinking she was rapidly gaining weight, manipulated into purging by someone who pretended to be her friend, develop an eating disorder so intense she fainted on stage, and then (outside of the immediate aftermath of the emergency) blamed by most of the other characters (and even those who don’t blame her don’t defend her! finn is like…. the only one to day back off to tina At All. jake my dude you are her boyfriend what are you doing) and implicitly by the narrative for being ‘selfish’ even though it’s repeatedly emphasized that part of the reason she was putting so much pressure on herself is because she doesn’t wnat to let the team down?

and like it’s one thing for the teen characters to blame her a little (they’re disappointed and immature and frankly most of them aren’t that close with her, so it’s frustrating but realistic) but even the narrative seems to agree that she’s like… sympathetic but flawed in this storyline….. except again. she was emotionally manipulated and had a medical crisis. what flaw does she exhibit in this storyline beyond ‘being an insecure teenage girl’?
