Plus the actual murderer lived in the student dorm for 3 years without anyone suspecting a thing.

And Quirrel lived at Hogwarts for a year with Voldemort attached to the back of his head without being caught.

And a wizard Nazi impersonated a teacher for an entire year with no one the wiser.

And let’s not forget that a student was killed (Myrtle) and 2 others were petrified (Colin & Hermione) by the basilisk.

Being armed did shit all to keep Hogwarts students safe.
