Reminder that she actually wins that season, so keep your head up.
Reminder that she constantly had trouble believing that she deserved to be there and her first few could best be described as ‘not the worst’.
And she won. She stayed positive, cried when she needed to, and kept going.
I was just about to say that… I almost cried when she won

Ebony as you know, I️ live for your creative writing and abstract romantic observations but this is absolutely my favorite so far.

NYC Day 2: Wow, I’m Bad at This
So, I’m probably two weeks late to this. So, it’s going to be difficult to recall everything I did. But, some days are easier to remember than others.
Day 2 in NYC was on June 30, 2016. The only plans for that day were to meet up with the chain restaurant I work at and set up a potential job, since I have to work to make the vacation work. Unfortunately. But, they were very accepting and offered me a job and decent hours. I will have to say, though, I got there much, much earlier than I needed to. I went through Grand Central to get there and the experience was... unbelievable.
This was my first day in the city. I took the subway from Queens and got to Grand Central Terminal. The one you see in the movies and on television. The Grand Central Terminal. I walked in, and just looked around. I looked at the clock in the middle; I looked at the painting/mural on the ceiling; I looked at the giant Apple store on the top of the back steps (I wasn’t expecting that); I looked around with the most dumbfounded, touristy smile on my face. It was more than words can say. After that, I chilled in Starbucks, had the interview, and had to wait until Emma got home because she needed to make keys.
Next came up quite possibly the most memorable moment of NYC (the city and not the shows. I’ll be getting to the shows soon enough). With time on my hands, it was time for Times Square. I butchered the word “time” in the last sentence, but seriously. I have to actively avoid looking at it today because I’m still amazed. And, also, sometimes it gets in the way of other people walking when you just stare at Times Square. But, if I put myself in their shows, seeing Times Square for the first time, I totally understand. Seeing all the giant screens, the sheer amount of skyscrapers (I had never seen a building taller than 10 stories up close), and just the liveliness that represented New York City, the city I had heard about, just perfectly. Just wow. That sight was fantastic. So, with that done, and Emma having gotten home, I took the NQR to Queens, and settled in for the next day.
Day 1: Getting to Know the City
My first day in New York City is officially over. And, weirdly enough, it was less productive than my first night here. To recap: I got on the plane at 9:45 am PST from LAX to JFK and landed in NYC at 6:15pm EST. 3 hour time difference... That’ll definitely take some getting used to. I tried to fix my sleep schedule before I got here, to no avail apparently. But, I am sleeping relatively early for myself (12am-1am) and waking up astoundingly early. More early than I’m comfortable with, even back home.
I digress. After I landed, I asked Emma (my best friend, of whom I am staying with for the first few weeks here) how to get to here place. I didn’t know JFK was so far from everything in NYC. Also, fun fact, NYC isn’t just Manhattan. I mean, I always knew NYC had about 8 million people in it. I just didn’t know how they all fit on a tiny island like Manhattan. Here’s the thing: they don’t. I’m sure you knew that; I just never looked it up. That makes more sense. You learn something every day.
So, after what was probably a good 10 minutes figuring out how to even buy a metro card, I was on my way. I got to Emma’s place, I put all my stuff away in this quaint apartment that she is subletting, and then we headed off to see UCB-East. We had dinner first, though. And, the dinner she made was amazing. She’s the best. Seriously. Back to UCB-East. Her old roommate was performing. I enjoyed the show, and it was nice to explore the city somewhat with Emma on my first night here. With that night over, I slept and woke up the next morning and prepared for the next day.
That day was yesterday, and it was surprisingly less hectic and all over the place as my first night here. I had purchased an Unlimited 30-day metro card to make getting around the city much, much less tedious and costly. It really makes getting around much easier than I imagine it would be without it. In the morning, I signed up for the Hamilton lottery (I didn’t win), ate some breakfast with Emma, and said bye to her as she headed out to go to work. I then got ready for the day, and took the Metro to meet an employer so I could work while I’m here. As it stands, due to some complications back in Cali, I have to work here to make the vacation viable. As unfortunate as that is, I am actually quite excited to work in the city while I’m here. After meeting with the employer to discuss working, I made an impromptu stroll through Central Park. Mostly the northern side, but it was gorgeous. Every part of the park left me in awe. To get to Manhattan from Queens, I took the metro to Grand Central. And, to be completely honest, I’ve never really been outside of Anchorage or Irvine for my life, and seeing Grand Central for the first time is a memory I will never forget. The city is beautiful and I am already starting to feel myself fall in love with it. Thankfully, I have my camera with me and I am documenting the sights I am seeing and the experiences I am having. I’m parallel vlogging kinda with this trip, while also blogging about it. I’m just not posting the vlogs immediately. The plan is to make a mini-movie about my trip here. The stroll through Central Park lasted a few hours, with many photos taken while I walked through it. I finished the stroll by eating at Subway, since I figured I’d start with places I knew and then expand to places I don’t. After Subway, I headed home and watched New Girl with Emma the entire night.
It’s only been a day and a half in NYC and I’ve already had a bunch of new experiences and everything about this city is amazing. I have a month to experience it, and I’m looking forward to every day. The architecture is breathtakingly beautiful, the people are wonderful, and the city will probably continue to surprise me every moment it can. I have to force myself to not take pictures every moment that I can so I can experience the city myself instead of behind the lens. There have been several moments where I just had to sit down and take the city in. It’s only been a day. I can’t wait for the rest of what’s to come.
