Tessa gently stroked his cheek and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead. “I’m sorry my love. We’ll get some real food in you and some rest… Hopefully we’ll have you feeling better soon.” She left him there to return to the pasta. She took it from the stove to drain the boiling water.
“You don’t have to say sorry.” He grinned at her as he watched her walk away. “I’ll be doing alright in no time.” J.P. pushed up from his chair to go over to her and wrap his arms around her.
“It’s what we say to those we love.” The moment his arms curled around her she relaxed against him with a quiet sigh. “I like this best. Me cooking and you holding me. It’s my favorite.” Tessa dumped the pasta back in the pot and dumped in cream sauce and cheese. “As soon as it’s cool enough to eat, it’s all yours.”
“I like it too.” JP sighed happily as he rest his chin on her shoulder. “I like watching you paint too.” He leaned forward to kiss her cheek. “I like watching you do just about anything to be honest. As long as you’re in my arms.”
“Maybe we can just live the rest of our lives just like this.” Once the pasta was stirred she ran her hand up his arm. Smiling she turned her head to nuzzle his shoulder. “I can feed you so you can keep holding me.” Her chuckled was slightly muffled by his shirt.
“That might take a while though.” JP laughed and lightly pulled away. “I want to get back to normal as quickly as possible.” He lightly caressed her cheek before kissing it.
“True.” She scooped up a bowl to serve him. “And I definitely want you well as fast as possible.” She placed the bowl in his hands and left a gentle kiss on his cheek. “So, how about you do the feeding and I’ll do the holding?” Tessa moved behind him to wrap her arms around his waist and press her face into his shoulder.
“That sounds fair.” He chuckled as he took the bowl from her. “Thank you, Tess.” He said softly, his mouth full of food now that he had started eating. “We’ll have to figure all of this out at some point. If you’re connected to me and to him… we’ll have to figure it out.”
Tessa remained quiet and breathed him in once more. She savored the moment, pretending it was still just the two of them. Not that she would admit it out loud but even in though her encounter with Belial had only been momentary she had thought her husband lost again. She wanted to prolong the blissful relief of having him back. She raised her head and set her chin on his shoulder with a soft sigh. “We will figure it out at some point. I figure… Because he is a part of you, and we’re connected… I must be connected to him too in some way. The problem being we don’t what the bond might be. At least in the meantime I can cook you delicious meals and hold onto you for support.”
“Well, I like the delicious meals and the holding.” He said with a smile, trying to raise the mood again. JP took a few more bites and suddenly paused, looking distant for a moment. Suddenly, the smile on his face became a large grin as he turned to pull her into his arms as well. “Did you miss me?” Jeremy asked as he nuzzled against her.
“Always my darling.” She squeezed him tightly and buried her face in his hair. “No more disappearing on me.” She pressed several quick kisses to the top of his head. “Did you miss me?”
“Uh, duh.” Jeremy only pressed closer to her as he held her tightly. “Belial just wanted to ruin the fun we were having. I don’t appreciate that.” He pulled back so she could see the pout on his face now.
“No one is allowed to ruin our fun.” She pressed her forehead to his so their noses were smushed together. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. For a brief moment she let the guilt and worry show, only a glimpse. She washed it all away with a smile and kissed him. “We’ll just have to find a way to keep our fun all to ourselves from now on, yeah?”
“Stop saying you’re sorry. You have nothing to say sorry for.” He continued to pout until she kissed him. “And yes! We will do that. I don’t know how we will do that… but I think we can just wing it.” Jeremy was grinning again from ear to ear. “That’s how I always do it.”
“I do like to play it by ear.” She reached up to tug on his earlobe. “But this… We might have to break down and do some planning or research or something.” Unable to resist she threaded her fingers through his hair. “We’ll figure something out though.”
“I’m the only one like me. What could we possibly research?” Jeremy shook his head, the grin faded. He mostly just wanted to ignore what had happened, but if she wanted to discuss it, he wouldn’t stop her. “We can try to plan.”
“I know you are my love.” She framed his face with both her hands now. “You are a truly unique work of art.” Tessa pressed a gentle kiss to the bridge of his nose. “I love you,” she grinned. “Perhaps we can start with you telling me all you know of Belial. Just… maybe not right now. Yes?”
“Alright. I can try to tell you what I know... but you shouldn’t expect much.” He hummed softly as he scratched his head. “But hey...” Jeremy was grinning again. “You know a thing or two about art so I am going to take that compliment.”

Tessa went for the chair as he spoke and returned just as he finished. “I love seeing you.” She took his arm to help him onto the chair. “I just wish you didn’t have to go through this.” She pressed soft lips gently to his, lingering for a few moments just for the comfort. “Cheesy pasta with bacon and sun dried tomatoes. I’ll even throw in some garlic bread for a quick starter bite. Just keep talking to me so I know you’re okay.” She moved away and set to work on each piece at the same time. Once the bread was in the oven she put all her focus on the pasta ingredients.
“Whatever you want, darling.” JP said with a laugh as he got comfortable. “I’m just a little weak. I’m not hurting or anything.” He sighed softly as he rest his arms and head on the counter. “I’m sure things will be back to normal soon enough.”
“I’m sure you’re right.” She turned strips of bacon in a skillet, and cursed as the grease popped on her. “Do you want a piece of bacon? They should be cool soon.” Tessa grabbed the pasta and dumped some into the boiling water. “At least pasta doesn’t take too long,” she muttered.
“Yes, please.” He sat up quickly, making himself feel a little dizzy. JP rubbed his brow until his vision came back. “We’ll figure this out… you know that right? It’s going to be okay.”
As he spoke Tessa dabbed at the greasy bacon with a paper towel and turned to pull the bread out of the oven. “I know… I’m just still on edge.” She cut several slices of bread stacking them on top of the plate of bacon. “I’m still managing the panic. Hence the going overboard on food per the usual.” With plate in hand she returned to him and offered up a piece of bacon.
JP reached over to lightly pat her hand and give it a light squeeze. “I know, I know. Just take a breath.” He smiled as he reached to grab the piece of bacon, eating it slowly. “I don’t mind you going overload on the food though. I like that part.”
“I’ll do my best to just breathe for a bit.” Tessa set the plate near him to free up her hands. She curled her arms tightly around him, leaving his arms free for food. “I’m happy to over feed you, my darlin’. It’s the country way.” She promptly buried her face in the mess of hair atop his head. For humor she took a couple of slow and noisy breaths. A small smile found its way to her hidden face.
“Do you ever want to go back?” He asked before stuffing a few bites into his mouth. “I know we love New York, but if you ever miss the country we can set up a home there. Even Jer wouldn’t mind the quiet as long as you’re happy.”
Tessa listened quiet and still, a rare occurrence, as he spoke. She finally forced herself out of her hiding place to respond to him. Though she did not go far. Her chin rested on the top of his head now. “I miss it, but… The things I loved most about the country aren’t there anymore. I’m not sure if going back would make me miss it less or miss it more.” She gave him a gentle squeeze. “I just want to be where you are. I’ve spent far too much time missing you.”
JP nodded a little. “Okay, I just wanted to be sure.” He was quiet as he ate a little longer. “Belial really wore me out this time.” JP did his best to keep an even voice, not wanting to worry her more than she needed to be. “Though I’m sure I’ll be Jeremy again soon enough.”

Tessa shifted so she was behind him and could cradled him against her chest. Her arms snaked around him once more and she hid her face against his neck. “I knew we were connected though,” she sighed softly. “I expected he would be enraged if he ever found his way back… Do you know how long we have before he returns?”
“I have no idea.” He muttered softly, holding her in return. J.P. reached up and his fingers lightly tangled into her hair. “We’re just going to have to be careful about it all in the future…. Don’t give him an opportunity to come back.”
“Yes. We will. I still can’t believe he just left…” She finally regained her composure with a final sniff. “We can’t just sit here.” Tessa raised her head and began to study his face. She stroked his hair. “You need to get your strength back. I can’t remember the last time Jeremy ate something with more substance than peanut butter crackers. I’ll cook. I’ll make you anything and everything that sounds good. We’ll get some fluids in you too. And some rest. Do you have it in you stand? You can lean on me if-”
“Tess.” JP said quickly, stopping her rambling. “It sounds good, okay?” He chuckled softly as he wrapped an arm around her. “I think… I think I could use a little help. At least to stand up.” He looked at her, a small frown forming on his lips. “I don’t know why he left either…”
“I know. I know.” She touched her head to his and forced herself to take a steadying breath. “The adrenaline is still pumping.” When she pulled back she smiled for him. “One problem at a time. We’ll get you up and feeling well, then we’ll set on the mystery of why Belial does what he does.” Tessa stood to help him onto his feet.
“He does it because he’s every bad part of my life shoved into one corner.” JP sighed softly as he moved with her. “The better question is what the hell is it he is planning to do. He sounded like he had plans…”
Tessa nodded as she ducked under his arm to give him more support. “He’s vindictive and really didn’t like being put away. It’s not exactly pleasant. I didn’t like being trapped in the other Tessa’s head. But I’m also not maniacal or hell bent on ruining peoples lives for my pleasure.” She moved them in slow decisive steps out of their “studio” and towards the kitchen. “No matter what he has planned… we’ll figure out some way to deal with it. I lost you once, I will not lose you again. I won’t.”
“You’re not going to lose me, I promise. I won’t let that happen again.” JP sighed heavily as he let her hold his weight. “Obviously disappearing isn’t enough and I’d rather not try that again anyway.”
“Good. No more sacrificing yourself for me. We both go or neither of us goes.” She placed a gentle kiss on his cheek before stopping next to the kitchen counter. “Stand here and I’ll bring you a chair. You can watch me cook.” She framed his face with her hands, letting concern fill her own. “I hate seeing you like this.” Her thumbs traced his cheekbones and she smiled for hims again. “What do you want to eat?”
“You hate seeing me then?” JP joked as he leaned against the wall, waiting for a chair. “I would like to eat something... with a lot of carbs I think.” He laughed as he closed his eyes for a moment. “Cheesy pasta or something of the like.”
