X-MEN '97: IRON MAN

With the release of the art-book devoted to Season One of the series featuring this image, I have permission to share it online as part of my portfolio. I have always loved Iron Man, and I was so thrilled by the live-action movie adaptation. Thanks to CGI FX in the hands of geniuses, and the brilliant contributions of actor Robert Downey Jr., generations of viewers got to see this classic superhero character in all his glory up on the big screen. However, although I was excited to get this assignment, my enthusiasm wilted once I saw the reference featuring this 1990s version of the hero. All due respect to those behind this design, I think it's horrible, and I probably grimaced with every line I laid down in adapting it. My love is reserved for the Golden Avenger as rendered by Jack Kirby, George Tuska, Bob Layton (his early stuff), and Adi Granov.
***The X-MEN '97 art-book is one of the best of its kind, a must-have for every art lover, animation geek, and superhero fan. I highly recommend getting a copy for yourself.
