that blair connection to Ch*ck’s mother…everyday we prove Freud right lol 😔
But seriously that would explain Blair’s parental-like responsibility she believes she has to him and, in a post-series universe, I think that illusion (and sexual attraction) would actually be broken for Ch*ck once Blair becomes a real mother. Like her motherhood being tangible and actualized for him would probably “turn him off” (🤢).
Essentially his goal with Blair (as his pseudo-mother) was to possess this alluring mother-like figure and test the limits in which she’d be willing to stay (something his mother couldn’t/wouldn’t do) through sexual humiliation, manipulation, and emotional/physical abuse.
What’s even more interesting is including Dan, Ch*ck’s foil, in this type of analysis since their mother’s “abandoned” them both but Dan’s approach to and relationship with women is polar opposite to Ch*ck’s due to his more nurturing (“lower-class”) upbringing. But that’s an essay for another day.
this discourse has me like: great work team!
you put this really, really well, and your point about dan speaks not only to his upbringing (he doesn’t have the same sense of entitlement chip does) but really his character at its core—thinking of this parallel post which shows dan’s Mommy Issues manifesting in him actually pulling back and not making his feelings the woman’s “problem”.
